I have a lot of reels made in USA, abel,Saracione,Lamson, and others. I bought 2 sage trout reels in diferente sizes, and Im really surprise when it comes to their quality, looks and drag discs, and I trully recommend purchasing it.

I prefer reels made by genuine reel manufacturers and not “rod makers” who market reels produced by OEM manufacturers. My favourite brands are the like of Lamson, Ross Reels, Abel, Tibor etc..

This reel is a "bombproof" performer. I have several in my quiver. The only thing I don't love about it is that it's made overseas. Also, think that it's a bit overpriced. But, what premium fly fishing reel isn't?

Two of the Trouts 4/5/6, 6/7/8, Trout Spey 3/4/5, and both of the Speys 6/7/8 and 7/8/9, love'm.

I own a sage trout. Fished it only a handful of times, seems like a great reel. I love the aesthetics and performance on the few larger rainbows that have tested its drag. However for the price I would say Lamson or even an older used Ross would be slightly better but only due to price.

Great review as usual. Not crazy about the color or the price. However, seems like a solid reel.

I've Said it before and ill say again unless you're fighting a fish. Deep into the backing. Does the large arbor really matter? If the backing is your arbor size until it is peeled off the reel. That being said, I love your guys. Reviews and content. Keep it coming.

I had a Hardy Marksman years ago that was small arbour and the line (rio LT) would need stretching to get rid of coils. With how light most reels are these days, I just tend to buy 1 size up.

Unfortunately they raised the price of these reels by 200 bucks since the virus. Same with their rods. Nothing seems to be worth the price anymore. Mid priced is now high and kit rods are now considered mid priced. Clown world

Exactly, I was about to buy a maverick before the price went up. I'm in the UK and Sage just match the numbers but change the $ for £, making it even more expensive.

@@pickledud7703 I bought a sage sonic for 500 and a hardy ulda for 250 canadian. Sold it for 1000. And now it's selling for 950 sage rod and udla reel 550. Wish I kept it but I wanted a 10ft 5wt so bought a scott centric

Sage trout is also perfect for euro nymphing.

I bought a 4/5/6, and I like it; as for price, well, I bought my first Hardy LRH for 90 bucks, and now a new one is 500. It is what it is. I then line it up with a DT 4. Rio line to go with the R.L Winston "Tom Morgan Favorite" rod.

It definitely looks good but I agree $400 seems a bit high

Who makes the reels for Sage? Wagon wheel? Love it!

I love the design of these, but the price is excessive.
