That church is not Christianity. Christianity is not about any church it is about a relationship with your savior Jesus Christ. He was not a teacher he is the savior and he and he alone is the way to the father. Jesus gave his life so we could. have life.
There wasn't room for me and my family of 6. There isn't room unless you check all the boxes or unless you are willing to regularly subject yourself to commentary about how you don't fit in. Problem is- it doesn't begin at the local membership. It seems from the leaders at the top. "Never take counsel from those who don't believe." The fear mongering, othering and ostracization is pushed every 6 months. It is extremely divisive and problematic. The reason it is such a problem in the greater church is because it is the narrative of the inspired leaders. No change will happen until it begins at the top.
I am a Mormon and I can't believe you have been treated so awful. You have been an inspiration to me. I really wonder if some of them were not who they said they were. God loves you! Thank you for what you have shared.
Al, You have the most beautiful spirit of courage and faith! I, too, am a convert and have spent a lifetime of growing, serving and loving my membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I don’t understand why others use their voice to hurt, criticize and condemn others, but we are ALL children of our Heavenly Father-FAMILY. Thank you for your powerful, joyful, faithful voice. You are loved by many of us.
Amen little sister..I was born into the church but most of my life was spent in inactivity (not a lack of testimony) BECAUSE of the harsh judgements of our brothers and, especially, sisters in our church. It wasn't until I was 55 years of age that I decided that I was no longer going to allow any mortal to keep me from worshiping my Father and my Savior in the way that THEY have set for US. You are beautiful, strong, exceedingly worthy and a light set upon a hill. Thank you for all that you are💕💖💕
I became inactive after my divorce, because of the way members treated me. Took me a while to understand that I go to church to worship MY God and My Savior. I go to partake of the Sacrament and renew my covenants. I no longer care what people think or say about me. The only one's opinion that matter to me now is my wife and the Lord.
As a Mormon in Utah, I think you are awesome and have inspired my daughter every day. You have given her perspective on her own self worth. Not all Utahns are judgmental.
There does seem to be a lot more of these kinds of things that happen there. I experienced it myself at BYU right after my mission because I was from California.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I am in Utah also and have been inspired on multiple occasions by Al's words and positivity. Keep shining and spreading your light. It is desperately needed.
Could some of these people who write all that nasty stuff actually be disaffected members, or even anti-LDS people who want to make you think they are members, knowing you will react, and rightfully so, but at the same time, making non-LDS or even LDS who follow you, hate the church? It blows my mind that we have members of the church who are that vindictive, nasty and hateful! That’s inconceivable to me. But it is also inconceivable to me that so many young, middleaged and elderly members, RMs, bishops and other high profile people are choosing to ‘come out’ and tell the world that they no longer believe, and say they have left the church, &c. That makes me sad. We love you and have done so since Day 1 - 10 years ago, when we first read your amazing story. You’re an inspiration, and a beautiful one ar that. Please ignore the haters. If they are members, shame on them. We down here in New Zealand think you’re amazing. Keep shining, sista.
@@robpolaris7272I’m laughing because it’s ironic that Utah Mormons scoff at California Mormons the same way every other Mormon looks at Utah Mormons. We all just need to stop generalizing. We would be a happier people if we could just do that one thing; stop scapegoating and generalizing everyone. Seriously, not all Californians are commies. Not all Utahns are judgemental or “jack-Mormons”. I’m from Nevada and if I stuck with generalizing people I’d hate both California commie Mormons and Utah judgemental Mormons but it’s not fair, all people can and do have their own light to shine. Good grief everybody.
I am so glad to see that you have gotten the real message. I am 85 years old so you can imagine the changes that have occurred during my life time. If you ever need a grandpa to talk to I would be proud to be there for you. You are a voice needed to be heard.
I just can’t believe to hear that… looks like the same kinda trolls you find in social media… unfortunately we are not spared of the wickedness of the world among the members of the Church.
I don’t know that you’ll ever see this, but for anyone who does, you are beautiful and you will still belong to God no matter what. Thank you for being so strong. Remember that it is God’s church and the dog food that people give you in their words does not have to be eaten because their words are not gospel truth. Thank you Al for staying so strong. You are a light. 💡❤️
Al a friend of mine recommended I read Totooed Mormon I feel away from the church many many years ago but reading that story has me excited about coming back. Because of covidv19 I've been there once I'm going again this Sunday and I am excited to do so my goal year's ago was the temple and I hope within a year I've managed to achieve that thank you for all that you do
I remember hearing you speak at a YSA fireside. I was thinking to myself: “She gets it! She understands the restored gospel of Jesus Christ so well. She probably understands it more and better than many members that have been members their entire lives.” Thank you for sharing your bright and energetic soul with us. Love you!
For each one of those who have ridiculed you, there are hundreds who have been uplifted and encouraged by your posts. Ignore the naysayers. Continue your mission.
Carl Lee, even though I'm an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I live in the United Kingdom, I've seen exmembers around my area are nothing like what American exmembers are, the views and reactions tend to be very different. The exmembers in the United Kingdom actually continue saying things like "just leave them alone", they are not supportive towards the Church practices but neither are they supportive towards people disturbing the lives of others including members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That's how I see the way to do it, live our own lives with just general respect towards each other (I'm not saying respect bad behaviour like the behaviour been said here). It sounds to me the closer someone is to Utah, the more insulting and hateful they act.
Daniel Moore, I didn’t live in Salt Lake, but lived in the Idaho/Utah region and I believe you are right....I would modify it though to say the closer you are to Provo. Provo, in my opinion, is the epic center of those you describe.
@@BigAlMerrill My statement's just an opinion as well, I notice the majority of the people negative towards the Church say they live in America, especially ones who've grown up in Utah, no doubt anyone not a member is part of a minority that lives in Utah.
@@jesurunr.3333 Your "Book" is next to impossible to read!!! It doesn't bring the feeling of peace and love that would come from reading a Christ centered book. It gave me the feeling of total craziness. What was your purpose for writing it that way?
“Don’t lose your confidence. Don’t forget how you once felt. Don’t distrust the experience you had. That tenacity is what saved Moses when the adversary confronted him, and it is what will save you.” Elder Jeffrey R Holland
Nothing about those idiots is "Mormon" anymore. ANYONE who believes that crap is NOT living the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. YOU are amazing and I've enjoyed the bits and pieces of your story you've shared over the years. YOU BELONG HERE IN THIS CHURCH AND I, FOR ONE, AM GRATEFUL YOU'RE HERE!!! NEVER GIVE UP!
No hablo inglés pero pude entender lo que dijiste y estoy de acuerdo con Bryan, quienes te digan esas cosas tan crueles no han entendido el Evangelio, eres maravillosa! Y te admiro
Amen nothing about that is Mormon that is mean the LDS church does not want women acting like that and I would suggest she contacts the bishop of her church because I don't care I'll paddle you can't be nice like you're supposed to then you don't need need to be talking to other people
I don't have time right now to listen past the 1:45 point but i tell you this. Ive been a member all my life and NEVER have i been taught that the way you are being treated has anything to do with following the Savior. I cant even fathom members of the church treating someone that way. Im not saying it well.... i don't mean you are imagining things. They are so Wrong -- They are the ones who Aren't Mormons....
Never Give Up!!! I too am a convert and went through some hard times in the beginning. I looked at it as a time of testing to see if I would be true. This young woman has a strong testimony. Dyed in the wool, true blue through and through!. So refreshing to hear your beautiful testimony. God bless you and yours!!!
Just want to share this, EVERY member needs to understand this! A lady went to the Bishop and said, "I won't be attending church anymore." He said, "May I ask why?" She said, " I see people on their cell phones texting and typing during the sacrament and other meetings. Some are gossiping, some just aren't living right, some are sleeping, some are staring at me! I never get home taught and never hold the 'best callings' there are just too many hypocrites." The bishop was silent. Then he said, "Can I ask you to do something for me before you make your final decision?" She said, "Sure, whats that?" He said, "Take a spoon full of water and walk around the church two times and don't let any water fall on the floor. Can you do that?" She said, "Yes, I can do that!" She went and got a spoon full of water and walked around the church two times. She came back and proudly said, "It's done." The bishop asked her, "Did you see anybody on their phone?; Did you see anyone gossiping?; Was anybody living wrong?; Did you see anyone sleeping?" She said, "I didn't see anything because I was so focused on this spoon, so the water didn't spill out." He told her, "When you come to church, you should just focus on the Savior so that you don't fall. That's why Jesus said, "Come follow me, He did not say follow Mormons." Don't let your relationship with God be determined by how others relate to God. Let it be determined by how focused you are with God." “Going to church” is about following the Savior. Don’t worry about others. Don’t be offended by the bishop. Remember your covenants. We are taught that we should come as we are and worship the lord. How truly amazing it would be if we would all remember that it doesn't matter who you are on the outside, but the lord looketh on the heart. ❤

That's a good point but it doesn't erase the horrible insults she's endured. It isn't about people texting in church. Did you not hear what they've said to her? These are NOY Christians by any means.
Al, you're testimony has quite literally helped me build my own. I have never met someone with a faith like yours. You're amazing. I was raised in the church, but fell away in my teen years. Now, 15 years later, I have decided to come back, your book, was of the first faith based books I have ever read, simply because of the title: "More Than The Tattooed Mormon". It t helped me realize my self worth and where our focus should be as disciples of Christ. I understand the struggle completely. Focusing on the faith is all we can do. Love everyone even if they choose not to.
I have been inactive for awhile. I still believe, i still pray, occasionally will open the BOM and the Bible. And when I did show up to church every now and then I would get so much judgement. Mostly from the elderly. One example: I was engaged to get married the second time around. (My first husband passed away) i was so excited, my bishop was excited and my Sunday school teacher was so excited for me. An elderly couple asked if he was a member and I replied no and they were quick to tell me i shouldn’t marry him, it wouldn’t last. But what they didn’t know... my first husband was very abusive. Didn’t allow me to go to church, Slam the door in missionaries face, didn’t allow me to see my family. My current non member husband encourages me to go to church, (when church was open) he prays with me, he knows how much I love our Heavenly Father and knows how important my faith is. We have our obstacles but my non member husband supports me and loves me unconditionally.
I am sorry this happened to you. Please come! You are wanted. The church is for the sinners not the perfect. This is what Jesus taught and we are all sinners. None of us are perfect.
I am a convert, and in what I would call a "progressive" ward. Very open, accepting, and loving. My husband, who is a life long member, went inactive because of an elderly ward not supporting him or his family, but instead judging and criticising. He is now active because of our ward. Take heart. The church is growing and maturing. I believe it will keep changing for the better. Especially the more we stick to doctrine, and less to dogma.
Some 50 years ago I was able to teach and baptize a man who had dropped out of society upon returning to the states after being in the military and serving in Vietnam Nam. He and his wife lived in a shack in the swamps of the Deep South. The first Sunday he came to church in bib overalls and a patched flannel shirt long hair and a beard. The local bishop spoke to my companion and I after sacrament meeting and wanted to know what we were doing bringing such an individual to church. To make a long story short, he was baptized. About 10 years ago this same individual contacted me, he had been a bishop, a member of a stake presidency he had two sons both had been bishops. He wanted to thank “his missionaries” for seeing what he could become and not what he was back in the late 60’s. With God all things are possible despite what short sighted people see or think. Thanks for sharing there are many more that are with you than are against you. And that is only those you can see, not counting the angels who are watching.
Years later as a bishop, was this man still wearing bib overalls, patched flannel shirt with long hair and a beard? Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Sam 16:7)
The location certainly does have a huge effect on local church membership... always wise to stay a while in an area before making it permanent. The local church draws its membership from the community.
Sister Carraway, thank you for being so strong in the face of the people who do not follow the example of our Saviour. Unfortunately there are many people who will looks for reasons to belittle others to make themselves feel better. We call it Tall Poppy syndrome over here, it is where people try to tear down others. You are an amazing woman and wonderful example to those of us who want to learn and grow and be more like Jesus Christ. I met you at the YSA Convention in Hamilton New Zealand. I was the security guard on the road that spoke with you while you were in your car. My son was at the convention, he was just watching this video with me and said you are amazing. Please know there are members who do love and appreciate you for being just you.
Maybe that is your calling, to teach members of the church about the true gospel of Jesus Christ because they have somehow missed that in their learning. We need more like you. Carry on girl.
Yes. Al "the Tattooed Mormon" Fox was called of God to teach the members of the church the true gospel. So how about he use the leaders of the church? God instead uses an obscure token as his teaching tool when he has had leaders for this church for 2 centuries that could have been teaching this. Instead, the leaders say they agree with not judging, but everything they do is to reinforce judging others, racism, bigotry, etc. Yeah...keep telling yourself Al is the gospel teacher God called.
YES!!! Al is amazing. I am grateful for her example that everyone has their own choice to make...continue on a path with our Savior OR let some super hurtful and obnoxious people pester you into throwing away the greatest gift. Al IS a great teacher, a great example. Is she perfect? No. Are all of the church leaders perfect? No. But they are doing their very best as imperfect mortal human beings, to be judged only by God. OUR responsibility is to do the same, not to pout and blame.
I only know about you from my daughter. She feels alienated from “the church.” In the past she has shared with me the inspiration she takes from you, and I appreciated you so much for that. However, I did not take the time to listen to you for myself. Until today. I was watching random videos and came across this. My first reaction was sorrow and shame for my brothers and sisters who have treated you with such disregard. I felt love and compassion for you and for my daughter who has experienced similar reactions. Then I heard a message that turned the tables and was directed at me. I don’t love myself or care for myself as I deserve to being a daughter of God. Hearing your words this morning was a special gift from my Father just when I needed it most. I then received loving guidance from Him on what I can do to make a difference in this world. Another of my Father’s tender mercies. Thank you for sharing your voice.
I was sitting around a campfire with the YW this last week; my daughter present with me. I have tattoos-but no one can see them; a back piece. I have been a member all my life, but was inactive for 3years when I was a teen. Recently, my aunt decided to spread that knowledge of my tattoos to a few gossipers/haters/social murders, and don't you know one of them was in my new ward. This woman sat around the campfire and started to talk about how disgusting tattoos were. And said if you got them, you should get them somewhere you could cover them up if you came back to the church after that so as not to shame yourself. I left the campfire with my daughter right then and thought of something that I have thought of for years Al, 'if gossip were a tattoo you could see, people (men and women) would instantly be surprised to be equipped with full body gloves.' CS Lewis once said if we could see the true state of the spirits of men with no later reveal of the natural man concealed inside, we would see the most hideous creatures appear from the most socially guarded men and women who hide behind their facade of perfection. It pains me to see this mindset. I live in the west, and the culture surely has changed over the last 20 years. However, I am like you. The only one that can keep me from heaven is me. I love what Pres. Hinckley Said, "My membership in the church means more than all the evil that man can do to me." (paraphrase)
Sister Al, I love you! I love your genuine testimony of faith in Christ and of our Heavenly Father. You are true to who you are and a wonderful example to all. I strive to be more like you. Several years ago, I saw you in the Jordan River Temple and exchanged a smile with you. I echo one of the prior comments that perhaps this is your calling----to shine your light that others may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in Heaven, whether they be in or outside the church. Perhaps we can all remember that church is a hospital for sinners (all of us), not a museum for saints (even though we're trying to be).
“It isn’t church culture, it’s location culture.” I like that statement and will would like to use it in the future. Enjoyed your enthusiasm and stalwartness.
Don’t forget Brothers and Sisters, there are wolves in sheep’s clothing who know they can cause more destruction within the church as members than from without it! Don’t let them disrupt your peace. “Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.” Psalm 34:14 Great testimony Sister and thank you for your example of true faith, courage and discipleship!
This is one of the most powerful testimonies I've ever heard. People that are hurting want others to feel their pain so they don't have to face it alone. People that are happy want others to feel their joy so they can be happy together.
@@devinanderson1223 You are considering religious or spiritual what I am viewing as philosophy, and feel no need to put anyone in history on a pedestal, or accept arguments from authority. Walk down a street in Israel and talk to people about Jesus, basically, they don't care, they are Jews, and the examples abound. Think clearly before you tell others what they need.
You've been an inspiration to me and my wife. I'm so impressed that you're able to handle the baseless, hollow, scrutiny of Social Media. I'm so thin skinned that I can't even post about basic things but you stand so boldly. There will always be those who seek to bring others down to justify their own self inflicted misery. Thank you for being a light in the darkness and may God continue to bless you in your efforts.
Al FOx Carraway, when I saw this headline, "Nothing about me is Mormon Anymore", I almost started to cry. Oh, no! I thought you had turned your back on God. I am So so so happy, to watch this video and know that you are staying true to truth! Bless your beautiful. wonderful heart!!!!
The "Mormon Culture" (not to be confused with the Restored Gospel) is fraught with hypocrites -- people who want to LOOK like they are believers, but who have not actually been CONVERTED. That CONVERSION is (by it's definition) the CHANGE that comes ONLY through the Holy Spirit and by the Grace and Power of the Savior's Atonement. People who have been converted know (quietly, deep down inside) that we are ALL in need of forgiveness, grace, inspiration, and personal revelation to help us become more like Christ. All this is to say, DON'T WORRY about the naysayers.
You, my dear, are radiant both inside and out. Several years ago, my daughter fell away from the church and struggled for quite some time. She slowly started to find her way back and she reached out to me one day and told me she had read this wonderful article about a tattooed Mormon. Through much struggle, she is now married to a wonderful priesthood holder with one child and one on the way. You were such an amazing example to her through your journey. I won't forget the day that I was visiting my in-laws in South Jordan and we went to the temple. I sat through the session staring at one of the temple workers. She just shown with the light of Christ. I couldn't put my finger on it initially as to where I knew her from but after a while I was able to glimpse a tattoo and realized who I was in the session with. Never listen to those who criticize your faith. You are such an amazing daughter of our heavenly father and you have helped so many people that you are unaware of. You are here for a purpose. Keep your light shining and turn a deaf ear on those that would criticize you. You are amazing!
Dear Al ~ We need to hear a lot more from you. You are wonderfully, truthfully refreshing with an understanding many members don’t have, but need an enlightenment of. Thank you, for being you, for not letting the ignorance of members get you down, for rising above the riff-raff and seeing the glorious truth of the Gospel. You are appreciated more than you know! 🥰
As a member of the church of Jesus Christ, I respect you for being you. Judge not , that you be not judged. Christ wants all to follow him. "ALL" are his children. I am sorry for those that are unkind. Thank you for being the mormon with tattoos.
iterum nata I doubt the people Al was referring to were bishops. And if they were. Someone would have to greatly misinterpret those scriptures on righteous and necessary judgements, as those being made and referenced were absolutely not in that category.
Technically, you have to judge. Judgements are made daily, every minute, every second. God has not sent us here on the Earth to act on only instinct. We have brains for a reason. But we also are to Judge Correctly. We do not remove the mote from our brothers eye, having a beam in our own eye Edit: I hope this doesn't get lost in translation. I've never understood, and maybe never will, how people can "Draw close unto me with their lips, yet their hearts be far from me." How can you say one thing and do another. That would be like me saying,"Hey, NASA. let me build you a rocket ship. I have all these degrees. I'm learned and skilled and have studied with the best. I will be the best worker you've ever known" And I somehow convince them that I can do all this. So they hire me, ...Just ...To ...Watch ...Me ...Fail ...Miserably
@@jacobeschler1872, I'm not sure I completely understood everything you were trying to put forth but I do agree we have to and do make judgements of all kinds every day. But we have to make those judgements with the help of the Spirit. Only God knows the heart of another and ours is to love and care for not to persecute and shun. DC64:11 And ye ought to say in your hearts-let God judge between me and thee, and reward thee according to thy deeds. Love 'em all and let God sort them out.
Ali I have been a member since 2003 and I understand that people feel they can judge when they have no right too. President Monson said it best opinions are like teaspoons everyone has got one but they don't hold much water. You are a daughter of heavenly father and he has given you a gift a voice to bring people unto the true church of God Keep doing what you do its amazing
I am so grateful for your honesty. When my daughter and I met you in Portland two years ago she became a huge fan. You are such a positive influence on her and we need more people who are sure of themselves and their relationship with God. THANK YOU for your strength. It breaks my heart that you have had to endure such pettiness and I want you to know that there are so many more who love and honor you.
I am an East Coast member who’s family joined the church just before I turned 8. I went to BYU in the late 80’s and the culture shock hit me like a ton of bricks. Hearing people say that I lived in the “mission field” rubbed me the wrong way. How cocky of them. I was older than most in my class as I was 21 and felt shamed that I was not married yet. I started wearing a band on my wedding finger because I did NOT go to the Y to find a husband! Lol. Before that I had always wanted to move that way so that when I did have a family, my kids would have more friends in the church. But after that experience I was gung ho for not doing that. Luckily when I did get married to a member from back home, he felt the same way. It was always mind boggling to me that members could be so judgmental. It wasn’t until just now listening to your circumstances that I thought this reminds me sort of how the Nephites became more wicked than the Lamanites. Think about it. We are all sinners. There is no getting out of it. Satan is here to temp us. Every one of us. For those of us who live where the church & truth abounds, Satan has different ways to tempt us & tear us apart. What someone like me who lives in a place where I need to hold fast to my religion because most of my friends & acquaintances are not members, I have another set of temptations than someone in Utah might have where Satan may be limited in his arsenal. Pride is a huge thing in the scriptures that leads to the demise of nations. Just because we have the gospel does not keep us safe from sin. In fact, it gives Satan more reason to harp on us. When someone judges me, it HURTS. But I have to remind myself that that is their sin to bear and try to overcome. Unfortunately judging is something that can be handed down to the next generation. Just like we see loud & clear with the Black Lives Matters movement and civil rights that we have always dealt with. We teach our kids how to act towards others. Fortunately those of the younger generation seem to be rising up to change this. Of course Satan is in the thick of this and using anger & fear to divide many of us. We need to all stand strong for righteous change.
I love what you said about how sims are different for everyone. I’ve been a member for 11 yrs and I’ve lived in Utah for a few and honestly it feels like Inhabe to go through hoops of interviews before aim co spidered a friend 😂 but like you mentioned, I have to remember their background and that maybe the reason why some members think certain ways is because the way they were raised.
Michelle Michelle God has put you where you are for a reason! Just let your light shine & keep a prayer in your heart for those who don’t see your worth. xoxo
Hello Kim, I was once a Mormon myself. I along with my brother and grandmother were baptized at Joseph Smith's birthplace in the town of Sharon Vermont in the spring of 1974. I'm no longer a member of the church, neither is my brother. I and my brother became disillusioned with the church. I think they ask for too much money in tithes and offerings. They push marriage a lot too.
This makes me so sad that people who say they are part of Christ's church would treat you that way. You are WELCOME. You are LOVED. I hope that you continue to keep sharing your message.
When I served as WML and bishop and had the honour during the baptismal service to welcome them into the church I would, among other things, promise that during their membership in the church two things would definitely happen. One was that they would be offended by something other members would say or do. How they reacted to this offence is important. Remember the Saviour was offended many times. Follow his example. And your response in this video is how I believe He would have reacted.

I’m sorry you are trolled by members. There is “mormon culture” and the Church. I truly feel this is why the leaders of the church are emphasizing we are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and not the mormon church. I too am a convert. As a teen I saw far too many bad examples of “Mormons” to even consider joining the Church. Luckily when I left home for school, I met some true members. They became my family away from home. After learning the gospel and influence of the Holly Ghost I cleaned up my life was baptized, against the will of my father. I have never looked back. You are a incredible person and have a inner strength that only comes from knowing the truth. I am proud to call you my sister. I also call every man and woman my brother and sister because they are. All we can do is share the truth and live our lives as examples. You are amazing and God loves you!
This comment “nothing about you is Mormon” bothers me. You think you are being kind, but you are not, you are being judgmental. What does being Mormon look like???? We are all striving to be More like the savior. Don’t forget that He was was ‘numbered with the transgressors’ He loved all people, despite their sins or righteousness. If the prophet was to be called home right now, or any other time. He too, would not be found ‘spotless’ before God. We are and will always be imperfect.
Everything about is Mormon never let anyone tell you differently. There are so many in thus church who are judgmental hypocrites. Stay strong in the gospel you rock
@@Serendipity1100-j2n Very true, most Latter-day Saints are striving to be like the Savior and to be clear, there is no such thing as a Mormon, who we are is in the name of our church, revealed by the Savior: Latter-day Saint. The term Mormon is used by enemies of the church who cringe to call us Saints or use Jesus Christ for our church's name so let's proudly use Christ's name and the title he's given us: Latter-day Saints.
@@shannonburke7346 Again, nothing about her is Mormon, unless that's her name, which it isn't but everything about her is a Latter-day Saint and follower of Jesus Christ. Please don't help the enemies of the church by using the false nickname of Mormon, we are Latter-day Saints of the Church of Jesus Christ. I serve as a communication director for the church and am asked by the prophet to remind the Saints to use our correct name and title revealed by the Savior himself.
@@Serendipity1100-j2n I know this is almost a year later. However, I think the original commenter was touching on the fact/kind of making a joke that we as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have been asked by the Prophet to refrain from using the term “Mormon” (I can’t lie though, I find myself using it constantly when people don’t know what I mean by lds haha)
Sorry you have to deal with so many that are “church members” so full of hate!! I wish all of our faith were as full of love as Christ was. What a wonderful world that would be. I once attended a sacrament meeting while away from home. There was a father there whose face was covered in gang tattoos. All I could think was what an amazing transformation he must have made or was making to be there at church. And then I thought of all of us making transformations through repentance, God, and the gospel!! Keep speaking and writing!! ❤️
Al as a life time member My heart breaks for you! I am so sorry to hear that you have been treated so cruelly by so called followers of Jesus Christ. You are a beautiful wonderful daughter of God and am so happy that you already know that. You enthusiasm and love of God is truly inspiring! Thank you for all you do!
I am 65 years old and a member my whole life. The fact that members are treating you this way makes me so sad and angry. What a great sprit you have. This is the first time I’ve seen you and I love you.
Those people “aren’t Mormon.” You’re amazing, and one of the lost down to earth people and members. The church needs more members like you. Stay strong! You’re a great example to so many
When I joined the church in San Diego, my friend told me "The Church is True, the people aren't". I have held to that all these years. I'm so sorry people are not being kind. That is not what God and Jesus would do. I am so glad you have found happiness outside of other people's comments. Stay strong, and beautiful!!!
iterum nata what she means is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (or rather "the Church") is Jesus Christ's actual church. He leads us through living prophets today just as he lead through prophets in the Old Testament. If you want to learn more I highly suggest checking out comeuntochrist.org, they explain it really well.
I found it to be the opposite. The church is false and the people are the true and honest ones. The leaders are corrupt and dishonest but the members are great.
@@TomPaine76 Do you have any evidence that the LDS church is the true church? For example, Christians will point to the hundreds of examples of fulfilled prophecy in the life of Jesus as well as the over 500 eyewitnesses to his resurrection as tangible evidences of the reality of the Christian message which is also confirmed by the Holy Spirit to each believer's heart. What tangible evidence does the LDS church have that it is the true church?
Remember that “men’s hearts shall fail them” we are definitely living in the last days and by the time Christ returns most people even members will have given in to wickedness and the blindness of satan . You matter! Your journey and story matters! I’m sorry for your experience and I know it takes a enormous amount of courage to continually be in the public eye and deal with all the opinions of others who don’t really know you. I don’t know you but I do know you’re a beloved daughter of our Heavenly Father with a message to share. Keep going. All the approved will ever want comes within Christ’s love and sacrifice for us.
Membership in the gospel of Jesus Christ means we strive to be more like Him! Thank you for being Christlike. His light shines in your countenance! Grateful to be your sister in the gospel!

I really needed this today. You and I were in the same ward for a short time about 4-5 years ago, and you were always wise. When I got divorced I got a ton of judgement, comments, etc. Keeping your faith and love in God and yourself is the only way to real happiness and I’m so glad you shared this with us. 💕
I'm Not a Mormon, I'm an Episcopalian, I'm 73, and I was mistreated in my church, I didn't fit in because I wasn't married. I told them all, my relationship with God has nothing to do with who you think I am, because god loves me, and your judgment is a sin. It is who we are inside that matters to God. Listen to no ones message if love is not present. Be Yourself because god see's your perfection.
"Everything else is just noise" is the truth. It's only about God, me, and loving other people. Thanks Al for your witness. I'm sorry people haven't been nice to you. Keep on going sister!
Love this! We moved from the eastfour years ago and I was bullied by the "sisters" in supposedly Zion ward. I could not believe it. But through this experience, I've never been closer to my Savior. He literally strengthened, inspired and sent tender mercies to let me know I was loved and cared about by Him. I was able to let go of my anxiety and face those sisters and forgive them for treating me so poorly. I was healed through the power of Charity, the true Love of Christ and the gift of the Holy Ghost who helped me see truth with the Light! Thanks for being you! 💕
Never fear, most of the ones on the internet are simply trolls! Probably not even members. Things aren't quite so bad as they seem. ☺️ That's not to say that there aren't plenty of people who do say insensitive things out of judgment or whatever, but on the internet, I'm QUITE certain that most of the particularly ridiculous insults (about silly things like weight and hair) come purely from people trolling other people who they think will react!

I'm a mom of only one child. I married late and couldn't have babies right away. I finally got my miracle, but she has physical disabilities. You can't even imagine the hurtful things temple worthy members have said to me over the years. I did explode in anger a couple times, but most of the time I just took it. Most are kind, but it's those exceptions that make things miserable for those of us who are different. Just keep making sure you aren't part of the problem. This really broke my heart. Why would people say such silly things? It's none of their business anyway! If they felt like they should make it their business, they should do so in love not negativity. I'm sorry there are silly people out there and you had to run into them :-(
I like how she's claimed the behaviour is more to do with location as I agree, I live in the UK and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints just let people leave if they want to, and the majority of people who decide to leave don't support the negative treatment by critics. They just generally don't support negativity towards one another. They are not judgemental which is good in one way but bad in another.
Well, I had a neighbor who asked me who dud my yard work; I told her; I then asked later if she hired him. She said, "oh no, never!! I just like my workers have that celestial smile (indicating the garment line seen through a shirt)".... REAALLY? And we are a welcoming church? And we want to convert others? Yet, reject someone because there is no garment showing? Yup, its a culture all its own, driven by judgement; your ancesters; your relatives (I once had a bishop who was Thoman Monson's cousin, and brought it up with pride at tithing settlement) .... and this makes him extra special? .. Aly, you are terrific!!
Al - I REALLY like you too!! I have followed you for years - and you have given me hope and renewed my commitment to the Gospel many times. I may not be in your local ward - but I am your sister! Don’t let them grind you down!! You are loved here and above.
Al, You are a beloved daughter of our Heavenly Father. Thank you for being such a "watch tower" of strength. You are genuinely BEAUTIFUL inside and out!!!
For what it's worth, I taught a Gospel Doctrine lesson in Utah a few years ago using your story as the basis. It's true that many members have not yet learned to judge righteously. The Lord looks on the heart, as should we.

When I left the Gospel..I had a convo with a "jacked mormon" thinking he'd be on my side with all ghe complaints I had of the church and he said one word that changed it all for me. Complete. "We have the Completeness of His Gospel." You could but you would be cheating yourself out of All that He has to offer and it's up to us to decide how much of it we are willing to accept.
Really enjoyed this video. Just like everyone else here in the comments, we’re so glad you’re here. ❤️❤️You are one of our heroes and we appreciate all your work in pulling away the ignorance of our relationship with our Father. 👏👏👏 We love you! 🤘Keep it up!! ❤️❤️
I am feeling so sad that the commandment to love as Christ loves gets lost to some of us. You are so beautiful. You are a princess, a daughter of God, worthy of love. And love should come especially from your family, the people who have also covenanted to mourn with those who mourn, and comfort those in need of comfort. A huge hug from me. You are wonderful. Thank you for sharing your troubles with us so each of us can evaluate our own actions in regards to others.
I never comment but you have provoked me to say that you’re amazing. We need more people who will call it out and at the same time tell the whole truth! Best to you!!!!
I’m sorry you have been exposed to this kind of hurt from people who you trusted as family. You are a daughter of God. Your relationship is with God first. You belong!
Growing up I thought that we "East Coast Mormons" were the "stepchildren" of the Church, that the members out West were more faithful, more dedicated. I have come to realize it is just the opposite. I think we tend to hold to our values more and are more accepting of others. We would gladly welcome you into our congregation - arm art and all. :) Stay strong and realize you will be judged on You, and the people being rude and unwelcoming will be judged on their actions. I think I'd rather be you!
Gina: I have traveled a bit and attended church in most states and many foreign countries. It is my solem testimony to you and all that he geography is not the determining factor . I have met true stalwarts in every congregation in every country I have attended church. It is up to each person as an individual how we will manage the gifts of truth and knowledge God gives each of us. He will give us as much as we can handle .I feel like its more important to ask God for direction and peace and not worry so much about those who appear to be lost or not in compliance in the end each person has to work out their own salvaton and they will be accountable for each infraction they have committed and not repented from . In m mind life is too short and my soul is too important for me to get chapped about something someone says. By extension you are too important to get caught up in critical comments when we should all be trying figure out how to love another person who is imperfect in some way.
Sister Carraway, Ever since I've been aware of you, I've only ever had a deep and profound sense of LOVE towards you. I've always been impressed and moved by you and your story. I LOVE your tattoos and the significance they play in your story. I LOVE your hair and your weight (srsly?!). I'm appalled that you've had to endure those who are supposedly from within the faith who would "despitefully use you, and persecute you." Social media can be so toxic. But remember that within the Church, they that be with you are more than they that are not with you!
I am LDS too...the most judgemental people i know....and i just keep my mouth shut and think to myself....a lot of people are going to get a rude wake up when Christ comes...i am not particularly social in church...i go my own way...i listen and easily spot those whose fear rises every time someone is a bit different...i think you are terrific and said it plain here....and wish you Godspeed on your mortal journey.
I really love your spirit I was so inspired by one of the talks you gave about how you became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, and I love what you have to say in other personal testimonies you have shared it helped pull me out during a dark season I had of my faith where I struggled to feel God’s love living in depression. I felt your testimony is so pure, and beautiful to the source. If anyone ever tries to say unkind things and saying you or anyone don’t belong are not founded on Christ and need to reflect and need to repent.

I am thankful that my children adore you . You are Auntie Al. We live in Daybreak. And while you lived here there were a zillion times that we tried to find your house. We all wanted to hug you, we wanted to tell you that YOU are a daughter of God.. and THAT is all that matters. You are Daddies little girl. He adores you . Many times I have had to say ... that is between them and him. I am Thankful for this break in going to church. My testimony and relationship with my daddy has gotten bigger and stronger. Pres. Nelson recently reminded us members about how much persecution the we will endure in coming years, I just NEVER EVER thought it would be from our own. 💔
Yeah.. I left the church during Thomas S. Monson's time with us. Big reason for that sure was because of so called lds I STILL tried to pardon or forgive... I strongly disliked them and then more mormons because of them to point I left the church... I've forgiven them already since than.. Just super disappointing with how sorry.. PATHETICALLY small the lds church is yet mormons ha e the nerve to double cross or treat mormons.. even veterans.. Like low class citizens.. C'mon stupid mormons... A lot of people demonize and criticize the lds faith as the "worst" cult of them all and yiu guys let each other down?? OFTEN??? That bullshit has to stop.
Alma teaches his son “for I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day.” I was also thinking that Christ understands rejection, brutality, etc better than anyone who ever lived on the earth. Keep up the good work, Al.
Thanks for your comment. Would you mind helping me out with a question I have about the Mormon Church? I read in the intro to the Book of Mormon that Jesus is the Eternal God, yet the LDS church teaches that God was once a man, and that Jesus is his conceived son. Can you explain how Jesus can be the eternal God if neither he nor his father have always been God? God bless.
iterum nata , I do not fully understand how Heavenly Father became God. I think the best thing to learn about is who He is and who Jesus Christ is. You can learn about that more in-depth on comeuntochrist .org. Best wishes.
@@celestepiccolo6586 Thanks for your reply. I have looked on comeuntochrist.org and didn't find the answer. I'm hopeful that you can be a member missionary and help me clear up this confusing idea. In the Bible it describes God as the Eternal God, apart from whom there is no God (Revelation 21:6, Psalm 90:2, Isaish 43:10, 44:6-8). This is similar in language to the intro to the Book of Mormon but different than what Joseph Smith would later state in the King Follett discourse: "“We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see." I can't reconcile these things. Thanks for any thoughts you can provide to clear this up. Blessings on your day.
I'm a recovered drug addict who found his way back to the church and it's testimonies and the faith of church members such as yourself who help me continue pressing forward. Thank you for sharing your love, faith, and testimony with the world, and for being an example of what Christ's love is like.
Speak for yourself. I'm from Chile, I grew up in a society just like New York, because my city was that big. Now I live in Utah, sadly here is like she's saying. I think I have some regret to come back here after experienced military life. I remember in Hawai'i our bishop had tattoos and his counselor too. One time a friend we made in the military wanted to join the church, but she had tattoos so she felt like she wouldn't fit in the church because of it, so I spoke to our bishop about it and his answer was this: Bring her to church so she can see my tattoos. That bishop was one of most powerful man I ever known.

Sweet sweet woman!!! You are precious, beautiful and loved!!! Obviously those who told you such garbage isn't living Christ's gospel! Don't listen to them! They are NOT speaking for Christ or for the rest of us. Hang tough.
One story that has always stuck with me is when my mom, who was a convert, was having difficulties because of prideful members being clique-ish or critical, told her mom she didn't want to go to church because of the members. My grandma, who was also a conver, got in her face, looked her straight into her eyes, and flat out asked her, "who do you believe in, the church['s message] or the people?" My mom responded , "the church['s message]." Then my grandmother responded, "Then to he** with the people!" By this, my mother clearly got the message; that the church - the message of the restored gospel, the nature and character of God, and plan of salvation - is perfect, but the people, who God works through to spread that message, is not perfect. With that, she was able to endure the prideful and hurtful behavior of some of the members, and just roll her eyes and grit her teeth, vowing that the members weren't going to push her away from a message she knew was good and true. Sometimes the members are the biggest obstacle to the progress of the work, either by not opening their mouths but having an open heart, or by not having an open heart but an open mouth.
Remember what Zig Ziglar said, "If you let someone come between you and God, it just means they are closer to God than you are." It's our relationship with God that matters.
Yes Heavenly Father and our Savior love you beyond measure. From BALLARAT Victoria, Australia, we love you and remember when you joined, remember you're worth ALWAYS!!
Oh I could cry for all the hurt, and sing for the beauty of your triumphant soul! I used to cry for the rejection I once faced from my church family. Yet the Gospel was so healing and so pure I could not leave such a beautiful life changing source of light, hope and truth. And now, 20 years later I am profoundly grateful, because in my loneliness of not being accepted by those outside the church because I was a member the church, and not being accepted by those in the church for reasons i can only guess, I came to know how much God and my Saviour love me, and how much the love ALL of us ❤️, along so much more of what you so brightly shared here. I am so grateful for you, for this message, and for the vibrant, valiant example you are! Sisters in Christ! * side note, I have now found many sisters and brothers in my ward and church family that love me just how I am, and encourage me in my unique journey of faith, and my appreciation for them is full.
Your critics don’t understand the pure love of Christ, and certainly don’t follow the Savior’s example. We are all human and fall to error. Hold your head high, forgive them and keep fighting the good fight!

You just told my story. I'm so glad you made it through.

Carl Lee,
even though I'm an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I live in the United Kingdom, I've seen exmembers around my area are nothing like what American exmembers are, the views and reactions tend to be very different.

She said, " I see people on their cell phones texting and typing during the sacrament and other meetings. Some are gossiping, some just aren't living right, some are sleeping, some are staring at me! I never get home taught and never hold the 'best callings' there are just too many hypocrites."
The bishop was silent. Then he said, "Can I ask you to do something for me before you make your final decision?"
She said, "Sure, whats that?"
He said, "Take a spoon full of water and walk around the church two times and don't let any water fall on the floor. Can you do that?" She said, "Yes, I can do that!" She went and got a spoon full of water and walked around the church two times. She came back and proudly said, "It's done."
The bishop asked her, "Did you see anybody on their phone?; Did you see anyone gossiping?; Was anybody living wrong?; Did you see anyone sleeping?" She said, "I didn't see anything because I was so focused on this spoon, so the water didn't spill out."
He told her, "When you come to church, you should just focus on the Savior so that you don't fall. That's why Jesus said, "Come follow me, He did not say follow Mormons."
Don't let your relationship with God be determined by how others relate to God. ❤

Beautiful shared
Beautifully stated.

Thanks for sharing!
Just goes to show you that no one actually knows what they think they know about others.
I am sorry this happened to you. Please come! You are wanted. The church is for the sinners not the perfect. This is what Jesus taught and we are all sinners. None of us are perfect.
Bless your heart, Sister. The Lord’s hand is refining into the beautiful soul you are ❤️🙏🏻
I am a convert, and in what I would call a "progressive" ward.
Seeing those we have been called to serve through Gods eyes is something one can never forget.
The greatest gift of a mission is being able to see people as Christ sees them. As their spirit and their spirits potential.
I like your statement: “It isn’t church culture, it’s location culture.” I support you. Don't care about bad comments.
So true!
I agree. I’ve lived in 6 different states across the country. Definitely location culture.
YESSSSSSS !!
I love this so much
I only know about you from my daughter.
Ignore them. You are great. Christ loves you and have himself for you.
Who would dare throw the first stone?

Great testimony Sister and thank you for your example of true faith, courage and discipleship!
This is one of the most powerful testimonies I've ever heard. People that are hurting want others to feel their pain so they don't have to face it alone. People that are happy want others to feel their joy so they can be happy together.
People making derogatory judgmental comments clearly aren't converted. They need Christ in their lives.
How do you know what anyone needs
Jeff Dunlap Pretty safe to say that literally everyone needs Jesus
Amen Brother, preach!!!
You said this best thank you, amen.
Amen!
If we are not to judge, why are bishops called judges in Israel? Are you sure you're understanding that Bible passage correctly?
iterum nata I doubt the people Al was referring to were bishops.
We do not remove the mote from our brothers eye, having a beam in our own eye
Edit:
I hope this doesn't get lost in translation. I've never understood, and maybe never will, how people can "Draw close unto me with their lips, yet their hearts be far from me."
How can you say one thing and do another. That would be like me saying,"Hey, NASA. let me build you a rocket ship. I have all these degrees. I'm learned and skilled and have studied with the best. I will be the best worker you've ever known" And I somehow convince them that I can do all this. So they hire me,

@@jacobeschler1872, I'm not sure I completely understood everything you were trying to put forth but I do agree we have to and do make judgements of all kinds every day. DC64:11 And ye ought to say in your hearts-let God judge between me and thee, and reward thee according to thy deeds. Love 'em all and let God sort them out.

Kim thanks for sharing Kim

Al, I’m sorry there are some ignorant members. Please don’t forget about all of us that just love you so so much! So glad you are part of our family!

Impressed that you can look past the dumb stuff. It even gets me down from time to time and I've been a member all my life. Very inspiring. Thank you.

True, nothing about you is Mormon but everything about you is a daughter of God and a Latter-day Saint. Keep up the great work!!
This comment “nothing about you is Mormon” bothers me. You think you are being kind, but you are not, you are being judgmental. What does being Mormon look like???? We are all striving to be More like the savior. Don’t forget that He was was ‘numbered with the transgressors’
He loved all people, despite their sins or righteousness.

I serve as a communication director for the church and am asked by the prophet to remind the Saints to use our correct name and title revealed by the Savior himself.
@@Serendipity1100-j2n I know this is almost a year later. However, I think the original commenter was touching on the fact/kind of making a joke that we as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have been asked by the Prophet to refrain from using the term “Mormon”

Can you please explain to me (a non Mormon), what you mean that the church is true?
iterum nata what she means is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (or rather "the Church") is Jesus Christ's actual church.

I am trying to find my way back.
I so needed to hear this. I'm trying so hard to forgive and move on with a happy heart.
I know the savior loves me its just been hard learning to love myself.

Well said sister. You are beautiful, inspiring and so full of light. Thank you for sharing your beautiful self and testimony!!
Mink man coming in clutch with the loving comments. Love you man
Well, I had a neighbor who asked me who dud my yard work; I told her; I then asked later if she hired him.
I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with this. This isn’t what Christ would want. My wife and I love you. God loves you. I know it.
Come to Oregon! We love diversity. We're all kinda weird.
Boise Saints adore your bravery to buck judgement and self love, and God given love.
Jesus loves you! 💗. You are HIS!

I'm on my husband's account right now, but I just have to comment anyway. Thank you for having the courage to put yourself out there and share. You are an inspiration. Hearing what you had to say lifted me and was a timely and needed reminder of my worth and potential. Please never give up. People are cruel and say things that hurt, but you DO belong, and your strength is helping so many others. We need you! I'm so grateful to be your sister in the gospel!
A lot of people in the Church need to get over themselves and embrace the Lord's Gospel 🌿I love you and think you're great! 🐝blessed!!!
Can you follow the Lords gospel outside the mormon church?
When I left the Gospel..I had a convo with a "jacked mormon" thinking he'd be on my side with all ghe complaints I had of the church and he said one word that changed it all for me. Complete.
"We have the Completeness of His Gospel."
You could but you would be cheating yourself out of All that He has to offer and it's up to us to decide how much of it we are willing to accept.
@@MzMary801 I respectfully disagree. I believe in Mormonism you have a false gospel that does not save you.
Sister Carraway,
Ever since I've been aware of you, I've only ever had a deep and profound sense of LOVE towards you.
So grateful u didn't fall away!! Thank u for rising above the negative comments from miserable people. U R AMAZING!!
That is one of the best monologues I have seen On being real! Don’t quit being you! Thank you for your words.
Just disregard them. Remember, some of Christ’s vicious critics were his own people.
I have been a member sense I was 10. I live in Utah. I’ve been here my whole life. And you know what... I am not Mormon. I am a LATTER DAY SAINT. I’m not perfect. I know that. I am thankful fo you. And that is what’s important.
Al, you're amazing. I absolutely LOVE your testimony, and that you are so WILLING to share it! I have looked up to and been inspired by you for YEARS. I'm so sorry that people are so harsh in judging you - especially members of the church. You are sooo loved by sooo many people! Don't stop spreading joy because of the haters. Love you!
Pres. Nelson recently reminded us members about how much persecution the we will endure in coming years, I just NEVER EVER thought it would be from our own. 💔
They are not our own
OFTEN??? That bullshit has to stop.
manuel pereira we must make these capitalist pigs pay for their crimes!!!
More true than any other way. Most organizations are destroyed from within than from the outside. I love her faith and firm testimony!!
Thank you Al, for calling out the judgement with everyone including members. You are such a good example on how to handle it!
I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see."
I can't reconcile these things.
Not all LDS people are so closed minded, I love our little Ward, we take people as they are, God bless
Same here
Speak for yourself.
@@CristianPerez-su3de I am so sorry to hear that. I hope and pray that you always be close to the Savior wherever you go. Remember if you're going to church, it's for you, its between you and the Lord, learn of him. God bless

I’m so sorry to hear that people and even members have been so cruel and rude. Thank you for bringing to light the way people are behaving to teach us to be better.
My grandma, who was also a conver, got in her face, looked her straight into her eyes, and flat out asked her, "who do you believe in, the church['s message] or the people?" My mom responded , "the church['s message]." Then my grandmother responded, "Then to he** with the people!"
By this, my mother clearly got the message; that the church - the message of the restored gospel, the nature and character of God, and plan of salvation - is perfect, but the people, who God works through to spread that message, is not perfect.
The wheat and the tares lovey. I have the same problems, but always remember why I'm there 💕
Remember what Zig Ziglar said, "If you let someone come between you and God, it just means they are closer to God than you are." It's our relationship with God that matters.
I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this 😔. People need to remember to be more Christ like. You're doing great.
