We would love to hear the whole story of the impounding and getting it back!
Awesome to see the great heroes in blue keeping us all safe. Maybe you should consider a career in shoplifting so that way the pigs won’t bother with you.
If I pitch a tent where they pulled me over I could live there unbothered making $200/day begging while passing around needles with the other tent homies… but ride by the same spot on a sur ron and here’s comes Mr. “protect and serve”
or anything that requires them to do actual work really.
Here in California, law abiding citizens get punished and criminals get a pat on the back and box of snacks

Hey did they still impound the bike with the pedals?
Democrat policies at work
So if you purchase the bike from Luna cycle one of 1st things you read is the bike isn't street legal.
@@beetlejuice4693 How?
By far the nicest and most in-depth Kaniwaba pedal assist review
the top D uploads once again. informative, nicely compiled and edited video.
The motorbike officer looked like a e-bike repo bobafet enforcer. How long did it take to get back your ride? & you went to court too? That’s crazy bro
Hahahahhaha US cops..... so serious.
Seriously ignorant to the corruption they serve 🫡
Review is on point! I recommend upgrading the stock chain on the pedal kit as they do tend to break if you aren't careful with aligning the sprockets together. Had mine break on me months ago and was left with just ghost pedals for a while till I fitted it w/ a KMC K710 chain. I'm gonna get my new DVO onyx fork installed soon (waiting on a new headset) so it'll look even more like a mountain bike lmao.
I had one break already
I ordered the pedal kit and would like to do initial install with an upgraded chain. Do you have more information on what you used? Or a link to where to buy? Any idea how long the chain needs to be?
sorry, just looking for a little clarification. I might get this kit when I get a talaria mx4 R, but I don't actually want to use it. Just kinda what it for insurance that I wont get harrased by cops or get my bike impounded, so if they pull me over I can just point at the pedals and tell them "its an e-bike," even tho I plan on never using it as a pedal bike. Do the pedals cause any problems when using the bike normally with the throttle? I got a little lost in the video and wasn't sure.
2:17
the fact that when you laid out on him..but respectfully..and he couldnt just face to face be real with you..really does say alot about him..what a lame.
I installed the Kaniwaba pedal kit on my XXX and I was able to get it registered with the Maui county DMV as an electric bicycle with the bicycle/moped tag.
registering rons 👎👎
@@BestDasherAlive I own a Falcon M but I only ride it on backroads to the trails I live buy mostly. Why not just register it if you are going to be riding around on the streets all the time doing DoorDash? Then you wouldn't have had your bike impounded.
I have the og kit just for aesthetic to avoid hastles from cops. When I pass em I just fake pedal so they can see it has cranks. Haven’t been pulled over yet. Swap your cranks to unicycle cranks and you won’t have issues with your pedals hitting the ground. The cranks kaniwaba includes are way too long.
Thanks for this. How’s it been going? Still riding?
Hi The best Dasher, I'm also a biker(downhill mtb) and a dasher at the same time. My area has lots of residential complexes and weird roads, so I think dashing in the car might not be the best option for me. If you can recommend me an affordable e-bike that I can start with? Thanks! My budget is within a thousand dollars.
I’m taking precautions and just getting one with pedals, blinkers, front and brake light, and mirrors 😂
don’t be scared just ride the thing
@@BestDasherAlive yeah but cops are assholes
@@BestDasherAlive
I think we need a follow up video on what happened because I want a Surron but don’t wanna be hassled by cops seeing as your like a town over from me lol
Sorry that happened to you. At least you got your bike back but you probably wasted money to get it out. Well now time to go back into dashing to make up that money and time lost 👍
Sur Ron's look like alot of fun.
Certainly the motorcycle cop felt threatened by it's presence.
Back in the early years, Law enforcement wouldn't allow any type of bike with any size engine without having some sort of registration to classify it as a road legal vehicle. Then some laws passed that allowed 50cc and 250watt pedal assist bikes for recreational use. It was so strict that entrepreneurs were getting raided, The bikes "confiscated" and some destroyed.
They are very scared of peasants on sir Ron’s. Stole them all off the streets. Used to be everywhere
Did you try at any point to pedal and use the throttle simultaneously on mode 2?
Yea
oh man that sucks! Looks like your got your bike back? Are you fighting it in court?
Would have but was out of state and was cheaper to just pay fines
California, specifically Carlsbad area, have been targeting Surrons and other motorcycle frame type ebikes.
correct 🙄
where is this located ?
Thats crazy they took the bike!!
Yes it is
so they impounded the bike b/c it didn't have pedals attached?
Correct
Douglas. They impounded it because he was driving an unregistered motor vehicle on the road not a bicycle. A lot of us ride bikes that still don’t meet the law strictly speaking, like the wired freedom but because it has pedals and looks like a bicycle we get away with it. The Suron style bikes are definitely not legally bicycles and they don’t look the part so they get caught. The other part is so many people are abusing the bike lanes, weaving in and out of traffic and go through stop signs and red lights with their scooters and e-motorcycles and e-bikes that the cops and politicians have no choice but to react. We are causing this to happen wait till they round up 30 people on one of those group rides and impound a whole bunch at once, or someone gets killed. It will be on the national news and all of a sudden we will be public enemy #1 and new laws will be passed, so strict it will ruin it for everyone
@@mrc1436y’all live in California where you have excess of 15 year olds with modded 70mph surrons wheeling in traffic
I am still looking for an electric alternative to do my dashing, and I know the e-bikes are under the microscope here in California. So I am now looking at a scooter since they are not looked at as close by cops. I am looking to get a yume x11 one day to doordash in town. Sorry this happened to you DBA
Only one brand of e-bike is under the microscope of certain coppers
The reason that they are under a microscope is people like this trying to get away with riding an electric motorcycle as a bike
Ever though of getting those Chi-Battery upgrades for longer range?
Yea. Might at some point.

California is wonderful place for lots of reason except these sort of weird laws/exceptions. I'm sure the cop had read about the pedal law, no expert but heard about it myself and he was just happy to fill his time making himself "useful" to the department, like you said in other comment no shade on him so much as the bureaucrats who decided the best way to prove their worth is writing laws that just make everyone miserable. When dumb laws get compounded in bigger and more beautiful cities where usually any sense of community dwindles regarding the police stuff like this happens, less likely any cop is a friend of your aunts sister in law second removed and will happily let you off with warning for this that or the other minor infraction.
More on the pedals and riding, something i never figured out as novice rider is if you want foot on inside of turn forward or backward, and best way to distribute weight between feet. No expert on mountain biking but the asymmetrical balancing always through me off on right way to do it. Maybe you know
Na its way worse than you’re implying. The goons governing CA are completely corrupt, there’s no laws behind this. I also watched them install 24/7 video surveillance in peaceful non-crime neighborhoods. They have been actively demolishing small bizzes since 2020. You have to pay to park everywhere and pay to use the roads they supposedly used our money to build…. fully rotten, ppl in denial about what has happened to this country
Idk bout your weight distribution question I just ride 🥷
So with the pedals will be street legal, and no problems with police or impound my bike? Help me please
It was already legal. They just like stealing them
ngl I'm stoked on 19mph with the pedal kit, my night rides on the bike paths shouldn't have any issues
Damn dude, a SurRon with pedals. I know you need to do it for the job you do and keep the po po off yeah but it just looks so goofy. Thanks for the info and giving us a heads up.
Goofy and still fun
@@BestDasherAlive I feel yeah.
Did your case get dropped what happened with the judge?
Will this work with the super bee x and if turned off will i still be able to get my top speed or is it now limited?
Idk about super but if you turn off then bike operates as normal
Would they have pulled you over on the sidewalk? Im curious because i only ride sidewalk
likely not. alot of these guys ride recklessly, run red lights, wheelie all the time on roads, lane split cars, etc. theyre asking to be pulled over.
it's generally illegal to ride any bike on a sidewalk (not just ebikes) so most likely, yes
Yes - they started targeting the specific model of bike only. They see it they take it. They don’t care if you’re obeying road rules.
Sur Ron is going to be reclassified soon
Have you had issues with cops since adding the pedals?
Yes and no… lol
Haha ordered it this morning cops here are cool but I don’t take chances I already had one run in the first hour with my SURRON he didn’t pull me over he followed me to the store waited for me to come out and told me ‘hey you need a taillight on. That thing and I you were booking it man you were pushing 40’ I told him sorry I don’t have a speedo and if you want I’ll walk it home’ he replied no just drive slow stay to the shoulder and get home safe”
What a hero
I had to get insurance for mine and a plate so it counts as a moped, but I am from the EU. its just 100€ a year to insure it and I also get my money back if it was stolen. without theft protection its only 40€ a year to insure it.
Na… ain’t no “perks” that make insuring an ebike the right thing… same for pedals 😅
@@BestDasherAlive where I am from its the law so I couldnt do anything about it. I would NEVER put pedals on it though. For me its more like a small mx bike than a bicycle and I also go on mx tracks with it. Pedals on it sounds way more dangerous, especially if you hit big jumps
I think it is a little more dangerous but bmx bikes mtb bikes… all do gnarly. It’s not as bad as youd think but yea pedals r dumb on sur ron
I love how Ca cops look militarized, the cops in Texas still look like police officers. Officers knew in Texas respect goes both ways, and they just wanna go home at end of the day.
I would’ve put a lawsuit on those cops. They have to explain why they are taking your bike.

Bro, the cops were correct. A Sur-ron is a motorcycle based on the top speed and wattage of the motor--especially with the speed unlocked and without pedals... Ebikes are great. I've had one for like 7 years now and two different ones over that time. And throttles are great. But you should properly register your Sur-ron as a motorcycle or ride it as an actual ebike. You can't get upset at the cops for enforcing the vehicle categories as the law is currently written. It's also super annoying when you tell people "No, it's an ebike" when by all definitions it's legally a motorcycle... E-motos are awesome, you just need to own it and register/insure it properly.
Stock = ebike
@@BestDasherAlivefalse. no pedals = electric moped/motorcycle. You need pedals for it to be an ebike. How are you this dense lmfao. Most of us commenting are ebikers ourselves and we agree with the cops.
um i wanna know what happened to the bike
They stole it and sent it to impound yard. Had to pay like 500 to get it back. Can’t use it now without risk of them stealing it again…
Unbelievable
what about an electric scooter... something like the kaabo mantis king gt .....look super fun does 40mph and the cop hopefully leave ya alone
I want to try an e scoot, seems great for dd
"Not trying to do a whole scene" as he lies to the LEO that his wheelie-popping Sur Ron is an e-bike and not an electric motorized vehicle.
P.S. Here in California the Legislature is busy enacting laws that will crack down on these guys. One section of the law permits law enforcement to immediately confiscate the bike, and for courts to order the bike forfeited.
And guess what, lawmakers are wise to the "pedals loophole." The law will prohibit manufacturers and retailers from offering off-road vehicles with pedals.
You act like hes a criminal for riding around an electric bike delivering food to people that are too lazy to go get it themselves. This is part of the reason why California sucks. They would rather make laws that protect thieves and punish the honest hard working citizens. I would never live in that liberal &%#$ hole of a state in my life.
“Lies” ha…
You didn’t have pedals to begin with tho lol. You should be good now. I tell everybody to get pedals for the bike for legal reasons. Make sure u have a chain directly connected as well.
It’s not lawful what they’re doing. As the bike comes stock it’s completely legal (they can’t know if you’ve cut wire. and if they catch a rider exceeding speeds/being wreckless well then a citation of exceeding speed or wreckless etc might be appropriate, but def not stealing property). Just shows they do whatever they want and expect compliance
I actually did already have pedal kit but hadn’t installed it. I installed it once I got bike back out of impound and went by the same copper and gave him a few cute spins

Who started this whole Surron is an ebike thing? Surronster? The Surron was advertised and is an Electric dirt bike. I bought it as one and dont lie to myself that it's an ebike. This is one of the big reasons we are having crackdowns. I dont care of you get mad at me, that thing needs to be registered. Want an ebike? Go buy a Super 73 or something similar
When vehicles (bicycle, automobile, motorcycle, etc) are imported through USA docks it 1. has to declare the type of vehicle and 2. can only be sold by an authorized dealer of that type of vehicle with a physical storefront
Surron x light bee were/are imported into USA as ebike (electronic bicycle) and sold by authorized ebike dealers with a physical store
Official police and court documents marked my surron vehicle as “toy”
In summation: Always wear your seatbelt when riding your registered Ron ⛓️
that cop just wanted to be a pos plain and simple
🦸🏻♂️
If you want to ride an ebike like a bike and have people treat you like a cyclist, then get one that looks like a bicycle. The sur ron is synonymous with electric motorcycle- it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck. What do you expect. The days of the pedal kit trick are numbered. Good luck arguing with the police (when has that EVER worked?) about classifications and the laws. If they pulled you over , you already F-d up. Even if its an actual ebike but looks like a moto (revv1, s73, etc) - drivers don’t recognize you are a bicycle, don’t give you the right of way, and treat you like a motorcycle. Which is frustrating and dangerous. If you appear to be on a bike, pedaling, it makes a world of difference around drivers and cops. Put a powerful motor on a DIY bike
Arguing with popo has 100% success rate did you even watch the vid
i would have took off on em. Police car or police motorcycle cant go everywhere a surron can. Id take sidewalks bike trails dirt grass etc and id be away in no time
We’re under 24/7 surveillance here now
im in agreement with the cops here. You need pedals for it to legally be an ebike.
Then you don’t know the law, just like the cops. You’re good tho, cause the law doesn’t matter ✔️
@@BestDasherAlive Clearly I do and so does the cop if you got your bike confiscated LOL. An eBIKE has to have pedals, otherwise it's a moped.. by definition.
I mean, it is a motorcycle though isn't it
it’s not, hence the issue. Imported and sold by authorized dealers in ca as “e-bikes”. Classified by the sheriff dept as “toy” on official paperwork.
Aside from all that if you call it a motorcycle it has to go where motorcycles go and it can’t keep up with motorcycles (bc it’s an ebike that only goes 32-40mph for 45min) therefore making it extremely dangerous if it has to keep up with motorcycles and cars. It’s also made of mountain bike parts not motorcycle parts 😆
@@BestDasherAlive Well where i live, they are. And i see why, how are they different to any other low power moped ? Just as quick, maybe a little less range. If you have ever seen someone come off a bike at 30-50mph you would know these are not a "toy" they are clearly a low end motorbike, and thats why MOST countries class them as such.
@BestDasherAlive where can you get these documents that state this? I'm gonna get a talaria sting R and I'd like to keep a copy of those things stating that on me
That's a dirt bike homie, Not a E-bicycle. Plan and simple Surron's are made for off road and not the streets. You were the ones (Surron riders) trying to circumvent the law. You are the ones causing them to crack done. You're fault not the cop that new the law and unforced it.

That is a electric dirt bike man. So it is not road legal bro sorry.
Your comment is law 🤪
In no way does a Sur Ron meet the legal qualifications of being an ebike in any US state even with the pedal kit. They didn't steal your bike. They impounded your unregistered motorcycle. If you are going to drive an illegal vehicle you should be prepared to deal with the ramifications of your actions. An ebike by definition cannot have more then a 750 watt motor. They do have to have pedals. They can't go faster then 28 mph. If they do go faster then 28 but slower then 41 you can get them registered as a moped. If they go faster then 41 they are motorcycles. Motorcycle or moped both require licenses, registrations, and insurance. You were wrong. Period. And you tried to bully a police officer who was doing their job into doing what you wanted by filming them and being obnoxious.
What?
@@BestDasherAlive Feel free to actually educate yourself on the laws.
Free?
@@BestDasherAlive Still trying to get your way by being wrong and obnoxious then?
Surrons arnt ebikes, if it has no pedals def not a bike.
Any bike or car has to be cleared for import into country and then sold at an authorized dealer. These bikes were imported into country as e-bikes and sold at authorized dealers as e-bikes according to import paperwork and dealership paperwork. When I picked it up from sheriff impound yard their official documentation said “toy”. Courts throw the cases out.
So we all want to know what happened at the hearing in the Socialist Republic of California.
They just get thrown out at trial bc there’s no law behind it. The sheriff department literally just decided they don’t like these specific e-bikes and started stealing them.
I personally wasn’t going to be able to make the hearing due to being in a diff state so I paid the fines (the cost of travel/housing to make hearing would have exceeded cost of fines). If I knew I could be around I def would’ve gone to trial.
Like I said at the very end of this vid: the official sheriff dept impound yard release form said “vehicle: toy” (I said that to the judge and he giggled with me) They all know they’re corrupt… and we do too, don’t we?
Grown men with guns running around stealing e-bikes that go 40mph for 45min… “following orders”
How much was the fine and did it effect your driving record?
Can’t affect driving record bc the “vehicle” is an ebike/toy 😂. It was a little over a grand to get it out of impound yard and pay court fines
