    Very nice, I've done valve adjustments on XS650s (and others) many times. One thing to note - the torque spec on that locknut is 19.5 ft-lbs, which is tighter than any other nut of that size on the bike. Most of that size spec out at half that. It's important to tighten it properly to avoid the nut coming loose, falling off, getting stuck in a bad place and doing who knows what kind of damage to the head. The nut won't give, the cam and rockers won't give - the aluminum head will give. I hope I don't come off as a "torque troll" because I'm not; I usually only use the torque wrench on head gaskets, but these nuts have to be cranked down tighter than many people think. "Snug" isn't good enough. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming. And good luck on that 1600-mile (!) trip!

      You're welcome, I've always wondered why they never continue the compression release but I guess because of electric start you don't need it. I have built some high compression 650s I wish I had one. Thanks for watching

    First time I did this I had two of the valve cover studs rip the thread out of the aluminium while tightening the cap screws... didn't put much torque on them at all.. was a really bad day...

      Sounds like somebody over torqued them in the past and you just got the lucky number.

    Hi im rebuilding my dad's xs650 and I'm wondering if I can remove the starter and machine a blanking cover. Will I need to remove the gears from under the plate on the left side. Grate videos.

      I've left them in place before after blocking the starter hole so if I wanted to reinstall the starter at a later time it would be easier.

    Greetings from Costa Rica!!!
    I don't speak English, I use a translator, my apologies for some bad phrase.
    I'm building 2 xs650, (cafe racer, bobber) first time I find a good tutorial, but I didn't understand a step, the engine has to be at top dead center and exhaust and intake valve free? (first on one side and then the same procedure on the other side?)
    Thank you so much!!!

      Greeting for Anacortes!!
      What you are trying to do is take the pressure off of the rocker arms to do a proper valve adjustment. What is happing is the rocker arms to be adjusted should be on the back side of the cam lopes on the flat and the other side the rockers are riding between high lopes exhaust and intake. Now if you would like could make a video that would show more detail . I may just do one for next Sunday. Thanks for watching.

    Hey Mr. Miyagi, I've got a question about ignition coils. I have a xs650 chopper project I'm working on and currently have no coils for it. I haven't searched the serial # but it's a points system and was told its approximately a 72-77. Would that system have had dual single output coils? Or would a dual output single coil work? Also what ohm coil would I need? Harley points coil is around 8 ohm if I'm not mistaken, but I very well could be as I'm relatively new to motorcycles. Thank you for your time.

    • @outlaw86custom
      @outlaw86custom  2 роки тому

      Yes they run two coils with the condenser attached at the coil hot lead . Normally the coils would be right about 4.5 ohms . Harley coil for points is 4.5 ohms too. You can run some style 12v car coil too kind of like the old triumphs did. Anyway I hope that helps... Thanks for watching.

      @@outlaw86custom Thank you for the reply! Everything you post helps me in some way. Hope to see some more travel by motorcycle videos this year. Loved the ghost town video as well! I’m curious what they gauge is by your seat. What does it connect to?

    • @outlaw86custom
      @outlaw86custom  2 роки тому

      It's a 15lbs+ Oil pressure gauge tapped into the up oiler. Now it doesn't show a lot of pressure after warming up but on first start up it will show around 15lbs. The oil pumps on the xs650 put out maybe 18lbs at the most. Thanks for watching.

    Hello. I have a question. My xs650 right cylinder lost spark or ignition Last fall on ly last ride. I am thinking it could be the coil, since i tried to changed the spark plugs and still no spark on right side. Do you have any sugestions? Miguel
