I like the talking. I want to know what your doing and thinking. I don’t ever have the time to only watch a UA-cam video. I’m multitasking and only get to watch maybe half of the video. FlyLady is all about customizing it to work for you.
It looks beautiful. Again, pro organizer here. And Again unsolicited advice for what it’s worth, which is free. Lol The dress up closet is cute however I find they will never get rehung up unless it’s you doing it. And as for the toys, I’d cut that by half. Kids do so much better when there are fewer choices. I also have and use the toys cubes for clients but realized that even labeled unless your kids are ocd, they will get shoved back in whatever box is closest. The Minimal Mom has an amazing video talking about toys that I highly recommend. Over the years we went from 2 5’ft long by 4’ tall bookcases with 3 shelves stuffed full of 12 overstuffed bins down to 8 bins less than half full. I found they play longer and have more imaginative play with staples like legos, wooden blocks, cars trucks etc. I have 2 boys. I hate stuffies as well. They have their favorite 2 each and 3 others that I kept sentimental for me that could probably go. Your room is looking great!!!
Thanks! Someday we'll continue to reduce the toys, but for now, I'm not seeking minimalism. I've been keeping an eye on the bins to see which ones they touch the least and then we'll purge those. So far, everything I kept gets played with on a near-daily basis (except baby toys, but I'm saving those for #3), so we'll keep it how it is for now. I still haven't made the bin labels, but the kids have learned mostly where everything goes. My boy is total OCD, and my daughter is doing pretty well with getting things where they belong. Luckily they only take a few pieces out of 1 bin at a time, so they have been checking that it's the right bin before they put things back in.🙌🏼 Most of the bins on the 3rd row are actually "empty," and I'm keeping "non-toys" in them that we're currently using for school at home (puzzles, crayons/markers/art supplies, playdough, those sorts of things.🤣 Lots of people have asked about the dress-ups closet. The very first chores I taught my kids (right at 3 years old) and expect them to do every day are 1. make their beds (it's not neat, but it gets done) 2. put clothes on hangars! My kids can't fold a hand towel, but doggone it, they can hang clothes!🤣 Usually, they put the clothes on hangars and I put them in the closet, but since they can now reach this "closet rail" they're doing it. I have a dress-ups closet video coming soon😉
Wonderful! I’m glad it working out for you and THAT is the goal. My little is good about putting things away but my big one not so much. Most clients kids never rehung dress up so we end up using bins. Can’t wait to see the labels!!!
my kids play with stuffed animals more often then any other toy. i do wash them often because they get carried everywhere even to the grocery store. they ask for new stuffed animals every birthday and Christmas. but i know every child is different. my kids also hate lego and dont like to play with any sort of building block toy! and i know alot of other kids that do love that.
My kids LOVE legos, but I just refuse to buy them... again because there's too many pieces and I end up cleaning them up.🤣 That's interesting about your kids and stuffed animals! I know each kid loves their own thing... mine have NEVER played with them, and we have so many! They each have 1 that they sleep with, and a back up in case we can't find the favorite. I never had stuffed animals either... My son loves Power Rangers & Transformers, and my daughter loves little dolls & figurines. I was all about Barbies.
You did a terrific job on that playroom. As you are keen on the flylady system why not have a 5 minute room rescue in the playroom each afternoon before dinner as part of the children and yours routine. I have no children at home they have children of there own but when I looked after my first grandchild we tidied the toys, which were many each afternoon. If you do it together every day for 5 minutes only, it makes a huge difference. In the kindergarten we did this at least twice a day eg before lunch and before hometime. Children can do it for 5 minutes and it develops good routine. We overwhelm ourselves and them if we have to do massive clean ups. I understand you have had special circumstances with the flooding remodelling etc though. When the baby is born will you have a nice rocking chair to sit and feed the baby in the playroom. Although I believe in free play I found being present for some time when children are playing makes a huge difference. I used to create a village with my grandson and we would let chat away as he built it building up his vocabulary and letting his imagination develop. We would maybe have a farm, a car mechanics garage a house fire station emergency services a harbour a road through a mountain. We got out possibly over a hundred toys but he would help me put them in their boxes away afterwards. The other grandchildren children that followed later loved the game and they would each set up different areas of the village. Another toy they loved was a popup book that was traditional fairy tale village. It had reading books to go along with it .Children often love to just chat to us while playing and you can relax while feeding your newborn. I thought that if you sit with them now perhaps doing something like that they will give you so much more peace when baby arrive. Just some thoughts. You probably spend time with them anyway with the educational toys but creating scenarios like I have mentioned is a little different. When I fed my 3rd child my 2 other little ones used to love to sing all the songs or nursery rhymes they knew. I knew what they were up to at the same time. Thank you for sharing. You have a great channel and a bubbly personality. xxx Margaret in Cyprus. Ps I have just read that the children make their beds and put clothes on hangers . That's wonderful well done
Thanks, it's getting there! I will not be doing a 5 minute room rescue in the playroom. Now that I've gotten it sorted & put together, I figure it's a room for my kids, so it's their responsibility to keep it clean, or else Daddy gets it for a man-cave🤣Part of their chores every day is to pick up the playroom & their bedrooms. We ONLY keep toys in the playroom, so they have to clean it. In their bedrooms, they are responsible for making their beds & putting their clothes away. We do have a full living room set of furniture in the playroom, not a rocking chair, but two comfy leather recliners & 2 large sofas. 😊
Great video! I liked both parts! That was a lot of cleaning!! I have to do this with my daughter's play room and I have been putting it off as long as I can!!! What did you end up doing with all of the inflatable toys? Like the blue beach ball, all of the inflatable toys that were on the top corner of the shelving unit and the blow up bowling set ? My daughter has several toys like that, she actually has the same bowling pin set. She rarely plays with many of them and they always seem to take up so much room and are always in my way!!! Thanks, Jenn
The inflatables went into a storage box (the plastic shoe boxes from the Dollar Tree are my favorite!), and then went outside into our pool closet! We use them mostly outside, or in the pool.
@@TheDovesNest Thank you for replying! I will definitely check Dollar Tree for some of those. Thank you for the tip! What are you going to end up doing with the inflatable bowling set? My daughter has the same one. One of the pins popped already and I really wish that the rest of them would!! I am tempted to "accidentally" stomp on them to pop them and get rid of them!!! hee hee,, Is that wrong of me to want to do that?? Thanks, Jenn
Hi. I am not mom but I think you have too many toys and dress ups for only two kids and another one on the way. There is too much clutter as well. Probably one storage cube will be enough for both kids and they have to fit all their toys in them. No more additional bins. Whatever doesn't fit needs to go. The minimal mom has a video about borders. You make and allow the toy clutter in the house. I would put the dress ups away and let the kids use them occasionally. Let the kids play with less toys and use their imagination more by creating things. I would do things this way with my kids. You can also ask grandparents to spend more time with kids and buy them less toys. You need to set rules. I do like your videos but probably you can go with less toys and clutter.
Thanks. I'm not aiming for minimalism. Just "managable-ism." They do play with everything we have (none of the bins are FULL, there's only a few things in each). I don't have anything to do with cleaning the playroom now that I've decluttered & organized. It's up to my kids. So far they're doing really well at keeping it clean. When they can't do it anymore, we'll purge again.
Clear bins are really easy for kids
Disagree on stuffed animals 😂 I enjoyed your video. Greetings from Michigan 😊💕
