I am a beginner to watercolor . Always thought that the flowers had to be perfect in shape. This abstract was good to learn that you don't have to be perfect when painting.
Thank you Ellen! I wanted to start watercolor painting but “I was in my head” until I watched you & your loose style made me less intimidated & I love it! I started with wildflowers & moving on as my confidence builds👍
Beautiful! You know, I liked it before the last loosening but I really liked it after. Thanks for this. I remain stuck in detail and perfectionism and this is great to expand my play.
You made this just for me!!! 😂 Love your tutorials Ellen and your encouraging chat. I’m another timid painter and I can’t wait to try this - Impressionism is my favourite style in art so perhaps I can achieve a little myself! Many thanks for a great share 🙏🏻👏💕👏
I love you, Ellen 😊 thank you for your beautiful spirit and sharing your skills, time and joy of this wonderful art form! I am a complete newbie, but boy does your joy and spirit inspire me so much! Thank you!
I ❤️ your NO NONSENSE approach to painting! For me personally, this has to be the BEST tutorial I have ever watched. Of my three years of painting, I can COPY almost anyone's tutorials...but my own work? NOT... haven't found my style.... When I try to approach an empty canvas or paper...I just sit there... nothing happens or comes to mind... 😭I seem to be STUCK in the "perfection" thing... thanks 🙏 tons for this video 👍💯
Hi Vicki, can I join you, please? I've been at it for four years and, like you, can follow most tutorials with success, but when faced with doing something original, I barely know where to begin, and when I do, it looks horrid!!! However, one thing I've noticed recently is, I am choosing tutorials with very similar painting styles, similar colours, similar contrast etc. so maybe that IS my style? I don't know. I do believe we will eventually find our own personal style as long as we don't give up.
Yes! I’m very hard on myself, especially when I don’t think it looks perfect to send to someone. I love your teaching style. I recently had back surgery, so I’m not able to paint right now, but I’m binge watching your videos so I’m ready to try a bunch of new painting when I can paint again. Thanks so much!
OMG I love you....I need you in my life....this is exactly what I needed to get out of my perfectionist head. I really appreciate your flat brush tips.
Merci pour votre approche intuitive de l'Art ! Je débute l'aquarelle est naturellement, j'aurais tendance à viser le réalisme. Grâce à vos partages, je vais pouvoir lâcher ma créativité simplement et joyeusement ! 😘🕊️💐
Sweet! I can see that as a beginner, I need to go smaller. I’ve been cutting down Arches to 5 x 7. After seeing this, I will go to 4 x 6 to fit on a 5x7 card. Thanks!
Zip! So quick and so 😍 pretty. I have been getting rather squinchy in my paintings, fussing over every detail...thanks Ellen I will follow your lead, get loose and have fun.
I would never have thought about going in afterwards to add plain water to create the abstract. I thought you might have wet the paper first. I really like the abstract! Great video. Hope you feel better soon. This is one of the heavy allergy times for me.
I do Ellen! Perfectionism has always crippled me to an extent. I was told I have perfectionism issues many yrs ago. I'm my early 30s, I just turned 59. It's taken me this long to actually figure out what it means. I just could not relate to it, until it slapped me in the face. Lol! Thanks for this exercise❤
Commiserations Ellen. Yep, same cold/flu …. in Australia. Have had it since about 5Sep. As has a friend in Ottawa. Most persistent bug we’ve ever had I 60+ years.
And sip pear juice for sore throat! Licorice tea, particularly when combined with peppermint/spearmint tea, helps loosen congestion and stops reflex cough that we found so disruptive at night. Worked for us anyhow.
Here is the missing footage from the second card- sorry YT doesn't let you add and rather than taking it down just added missing footage! ua-cam.com/video/lTd86gmHm0o/v-deo.html
It would be much easier for those of us who are new to watercolor if you would demonstrate the first few brushstrokes *slowly* so that we can actually see what you're doing.

Beautiful! I really loved the first one a lot; so mystical.

I love this, I use flat brush with acrylic but not with watercolors, love going back with the wash and adding colors afterwards.

How do you tear the cards?
Ellen, the palette you use here I love because it has big wells. Can you share where to purchase, please?
hobby lobby
Cool. Thanks.
great video…..how do you prevent muddy colors?
try not to bleed them too close esp brights next to browns etc. give them a little white space in between
Do you tear your watercolour paper fot the lovely uneven edges?
It would be much easier for those of us who are new to watercolor if you would demonstrate the first few brushstrokes *slowly* so that we can actually see what you're doing.
pls make a watercolor mini of ladybug ❤
already have one look on my minis

I tried to watch this to the end, but it's been cut off and roles into another artist's video during a commercial break. Ahhhh!
The video cut off after waiting for the second card to dry.
