He starts out with the orange "music man" sunburst guitar, but at 1:52 suddenly he's playing a *RED* sunburst music man guitar. But do their clothes ever change? Did the wear the same clothes every night? ;-) Maybe they had multiple sets of the same clothes or they had a wash crew that washed clothes between shows? LOL
thats why he is considered the best all time singerof van halen by most. roth was a legit rockstar though, not a knock on him. the rockstar comes with unfortuanate off the stage stuff. sammy is a different singer than roth, cannot be compared. however, sammy all day n night for van halen in my opinion. guy did more than just sing also, don't forget ;P he also owns a whiskey or liquor company i believe. very succesful man. n lets not fogret those ungodly riffs on that guitar either, holy cowwwwwwwww! eddie one of the best for sure. r.i.p- eddie

Wow!!..That solo of Eddie's has got everything from tapping to singing the blues ..he squeezes out every last drop & his use of that power drill is absolute perfection sound and timming wise.. in places his instrumenal sounds like a caged up animal screaming to get out.. "So beautifully done"..Wow!! jaw dropping!!!..& so melodic..
My god..I love that guitar solo bit when he casually uses the electric drill in perfect laid back eddie timing..seems so effortless. I've never seen such natural talent and creativity! He had so much joy in playing. And that colossal guitar sound!!! I don't care what anyone says but he was the greatest!
The amount of skill, talent, creativity and stage presence Eddie effortlessly puts on display here is stupifying. Not to mention that massive guitar sound.. GOAT!

RIP Eddie Van Halen! Van Hagar was my first and only concert. I saw For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge in Milwaukee with Alice in Chains as the headline. I learned I'm too short for concerts. I was all pumped up to see Eddie Van Halen play Poundcake with a power tool. When everyone stood up, my view of the stage was completely blocked. By the time I found a better view of the stage, Poundcake was done.

Severely under-appreciated. Along with being a brilliant bass player, his vocal harmonies defined the VH sound for years. Problem is, he was a laid back guy in a band filled with massive egos.

Saw them in 1984 in San Antonio… After they boo’d the opening act off the stage… the lights went down and this wall off sound hit you in the chest like a wall of sledgehammers… it was incredible!
They always made you feel like your town was their favorite stop on the tour. Energy, enthusiasm, and incredible musicianship. They will never be duplicated. RIP Eddie
After q quarter of a century, Poundcake still kicks major ass. Holy Fuck. And still the two best back-to-back songs all-time on CD are Poundcake and Judgement Day. Sammy is unreal. Always liked him better than DLR, but....the band, no matter, is awesome. I'm 62 - and still love this stuff! Goosebumps when I listened to Live Poundcake and Judgement Day.
It took me years to warm up to Sammy Hagar in this band. But I finally did. This video really makes it clear how powerful a singer he was (and still is, no doubt). Blows the roof off the place. It also highlights how great a drummer Alex Van Halen is and what a fantastic rythym section he and Antony made. So glad this was captured with such high quality. A legendary rock band.
Glad I got to see this tour in my last year of High School in Belgium before moving back to Fiji. It still brings back vivid memories watching this video. They were such a great band live and the fact that they played so close to the album but still improvised. And the camaraderie on stage was so evident as was the musicianship. In my case, I grew up listening to Van Halen. Even though I never had the chance to attend any of their shows, I have always considered them outstanding, brilliant musicians. Because you should recognize that both their talent and their high level of professionalism, truly and deeply made them something themselves for a name in the golden years of rock music. And based on that premise, it would be important to state it was everything but easy, provided that several of their competitors were as brilliant and talented as they were, but Van Halen always made a huge effort to be better than them.

I know I'm an outlier here, but I really like the Van Hager era. Really strong songwriting, and Hager's vocal range surpassed Roth's. Classic Van Halen was more raw, Van Hager was more commercial. Love 'em both. The Gary Cherone era was an abomination before the Metal Gods and will not be discussed.

I know I'm an outlier here, but I really like the Van Hager era. Really strong songwriting, and Hager's vocal range surpassed Roth's. Classic Van Halen was more raw, Van Hager was more commercial. Love 'em both.
The Gary Cherone era was an abomination before the Metal Gods and will not be discussed.
I don't much have a preference either way. The music is equally as good (and bad) in either case.
Douglas, you're not the only one. Trust me. They were incredible when they had Sammy and wrote incredible kick ass music and actually were more musically appreciated. I am right there with you dude. I was a HUGE VH fan when Sammy was with them.
