Mine took like a month to start showing signs of growth, but have been going steadily since. Make sure you cut it correctly, and until the leaf starts dying don’t give up hope!
I haven't tried the incubator method before. Always had the trays open. I will try this method. Thank you for your video! Love to experiment with my new succulent adventure.
@@leet0809 I think we have to accept that some never take root. I have some in tiny pots that I set up 4 months ago and nothing is happening... Quite disappointing when some people pay money for just a succulent leaf cutting online!
How do the leaves not dry out? I have leaves sitting on a tray of soil and they seem to dry and start wrinkling after 3-4 days. I do try to give them a mist/spray every 1-2 days
strawberries313 strawberries313 depends on what type of leaves your propping, where the tray is located and what the weather is like. Is it under a shade? Is it summer there? Just think of where you would be comfortable under a shade but bright light. Maybe you should use an incubator so it will have a greenhouse effect and moisture recycles
Soul Sugar Succulent Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm trying to propagate eschevria pearl von Nurnberg in my condo. They're sitting in a tray in indirect sunlight. But I think my condo is fairly dry. It's early spring and still cold outdoors. So I try not to keep them too close to the window.
strawberries313 you seem to be doing all the right things but I haven’t tried propping the EPVN because it’s leaves are so thin and very fragile that it just doesn’t look like a viable one. Tbh, I haven’t even seen babies on mine either. You should experiment with good ones like fatter leaves like ghost plants and jelly beans. That’s prob why it’s drying up is because it’s not a viable plant.
if you are spritzing the leaflets before they grow roots you are most likely rotting the leaflet. the leaflet doesn't need spritzing until well after roots are established (and even then i don't like to spritz the old leaflet -- only the roots to be safe of rotting). the leaflet contains stuff like nutrients and water so it doesn't need extra!
1 of my 3 Vera Higgins (alpenglow) is doing good. It grew soooooo much over the month. The other two didn't do anything. My PVN isn't doing anything either. BUT they're also not dying so I'm keeping hope. I'm trying to save my aeonium Lily pad. She's in such a sad state from being bought online and shipped across the country. She's stable enough, but very bruised. About 4 leaves dropped on their own, and she's reabsorbing two. And she's trying to pop out two new babies, so I'm hopeful. Bc I pulled one healthy looking leaf off to propogate and it died immediately (within 3 days). I now know aeoniums aren't really successful with leaf propogating. I hope she pulls though. That'll def be a proud moment!
Nice. Would love to see the updates on this further. I have not been succesful in propagating leaves yet. Still struggling ☺ Btw music at the end is nice 👍
Eram Abbasi wish I could post pics. My succulent plants just propagate and I don’t do anything. Some of the leaves just fall on the pit and it propagates
Hi! I live in Minnesota and I put my propagated leaves near the sun rising window in indirect sunlight. (I made sure I checked during the day) but that was 2 weeks ago and I’m not seeing any progress on my plants. They’re not doing anything and some of them started to get some burns (not sure why) and some even died. Only one of them has roots.
Salty Support Either it’s getting too much sun, it’s too hot inside, it needs some spritzing, the plant is really not a thick succulent leaf plant or the cut isn’t clean. Those are some factors that contribute to leaf death.
Usually when they just grow roots, it takes forever to grow a pup. Sometimes they don't even get pups. Some leaves push out pups right away. Still, don't give up on the roots baby, They will eventually push out a pup! Thank you so much 😊 I appreciate that! Sorry but I just saw this comment. Idk why!
It takes forever to get a mature plant from a pup. Something like 2 years. Thats with constant supervision too! Sorry but I just saw this comment. Idk why!
I love propagating, but am finding some of my Echeveria leaves are growing a mini plant without roots…are these going to fail? They’re looking healthy on the mother leaf-but no roots x
they will eventually root up if you lay them on soil. Yes, different leaves will act differently. The ones with roots and no pups are usually the ones that won’t produce pups no matter how long you care for them.😭🤷🏽♀️
It’s a numbers game. But I have no luck w the lighter leaves. Like from pink/white ones. They always rot. I can’t believe this has been popular so many years & I am just learning it
Mostly echeveria, graptoverias, the fat full of water ones that are able to sustain new life that are successful! Sometimes less is more, meaning the less you fuss with it, the better the outcome. Welcome to the world of succulents, they are addicting. Check out my garden updates
I'd like to see a video on when to put the propagated babies into their own pots...like when and how to do it. My babies struggle when I put them into their own pots and a lot of them don't make it. When are they ready to be transplanted?
I bought a black prince from nursury in last week of may this year and as it is very hot & humid where I live I watered it only once but today when I saw it in the morning all the leaves had dark spots and fell down,on inspection it revealed stem and leaf rot leaving only the root and very tiny part of the stem.I repotted the root with a bit of the stem without any leaf in a dry soil mix.Just wanted to know from you that is it going to live or give our pups from the roots.Keeping my fingers crossed.
Bibha Mahanta Dark Prince hates the heat and direct hot sun. They thrive in shade because the leaves are already so dark. Two, it’s summer, no watering. If it’s really hot, just spray a bit after the suns heat is gone like very late afternoon. I don’t know if it will live if it’s already rotten. You should only purchase if you know the nursery doesn’t over water to make the leaves look plump. Im so sorry that it’s struggling. But keep it for awhile and se if it pushes out pups in the fall. Hope it does. XOXO
Love your incubator idea and recycle. It would be cool to see this tray growth in a month or two to show the progress. Where do you put your incubator? Sunny or dark or light? Inside or outside? Thanks.
You are so precious! I love this :) I am succulent/cacti crazy! I started propagating last year in the late fall and amazingly had my babies make it all the way til now though they've of course grown crazy slow! I'm excited that they made it through a winter, therefor they'll be heartier :) BUT, summer is just around the corner and I'm already having 60-70 degree weather here in Ohio, so I hope my babies don't burn on me! I actually did not do this incubation technique and just had mine grow in the open by a window. I just took off more leaves today and am thinking about trying your technique with this new batch but worry that they'll mold considering Ohio is a bit cooler and more humid (although our summers sure do get up to 90). Any thoughts? Maybe I'll try some in incubation with misting and others the way I did last time, but I have had a lot of trouble with leaves rotting from water exposure so misting is a concern due to that. I have a syringe that I drop water out of directly on the roots! Lol. I'm excited to see my new batch grow faster than the last, as I'm doing a dry propagation this time as well! Wish me luck :) Thanks for your vids!
Kellie Bartle Well, welcome to my channel! Thanks for such kind words! What I do when they are in the incubator is to make sure not to over mist, and whenI don’t see condensation on the lid anymore, that’s when I re-mist, again, if I know for sure they’re dry, especially if the leaves are not that thick and hearty! Then I make sure they are located in INDIRECT sunlight. Just keep an eye on them daily and they should be fine. Honestly though, I just throw my leaves into this tiny shady area in my garden and leave them alone, but I’m in California, our weather isn’t drastic. However, if I’m in a more drastic climate, I will make sure to cover them whenever necessary such as too much rain or too much cold. Sometimes they like to be neglected, needing only occasional watering especially the jelly beans lol. My more current videos will evidence that!
Savni Patel you can do both. You can check out my other videos to see the exact process. Not all leaves will propagate though. I wish you all the success!❤️
I was worried because my leaves had almost a month already with no change so I'm kinda relieved reading some of u waited for 3 months. I'm using a transparent container with soil as an incubator, wish me luck.
I need you're advice. For the last several months, I have had a succulent leaf rooted in the soil of my propagation tray. It's thriving, a very healthy one little leaf. It just sits there growing it's roots into the soil sucking up water being very green. No babies but hey, it's alive and well. What is up with this leaf!? Why no babies?
Yes you will run into that situation. Unfortunately, it will take a really long time. It’s a fun activity to prop from leaf but you may develop grey hairs before anything pops out of it. More success with actual pups but still takes forever. Good luck! I still do it for the heck of it because I just can’t see myself throwing them away, lol
oh wow! I talk about them in almost all of my videos, they are my mortal enemies, lol! I get in depth in my first vermicomposting video called How succulents changed my life and my latest one called How to make worm casting foliage spray! The only way to prevent it is to replace the original soil when you buy them as you repot them and the new soil be infused with worm casting so as the plants absorb all the microbes it will make it’s own defense, just check it out it’s really interesting scientifically! I know, I’m a nerd but I love my plants!
Do you keep the lid on the whole time? Does the container have to be ventilated, meaning needing a hole on the bottom or top of the container? Thank you!
Yes, the lid is on making it like an incubator. No drainage holes but I spritz it when I see no condensation, meaning it’s dry inside so I spritz again with water. I set it under shade, direct sun will kill them
my plant rotted, the leaves started falling so i plucked the good ones to propagate. they are veeery small and skinny though, i'm leaving them on soil...is there hope? 🥲
Maybe there was already damage on the leaves because they fell off as opposed to you plucking them off yourself or they just fell off a healthy plant. Also, small and skinny leaves rarely push out pups in my experience. I’m so sorry. What plant is it? Not all succulents will prop from leaves. Cuttings are better. Check out my Etsy store for good cuttings “soul sugar succulent”
@@SucculentSoul7 i waited for the plant to get better, but then i noticed its stem was entirely black already 😔 an app of mine says it's an echeveria chihuahua! i think maybe it was too small to propagate, but i think i won't give up until the leaves go dry, they're pretty green still 😔 thank you for letting me know about your store!!!
@@greenfairv yes, give it some time, it still may get pups! I hope it will, there’s such a satisfying feeling to see leaves push pups! I have a video coming up on leaf prop soon so if you haven’t yet, do subscribe!
There are several reasons why it died. Either the leaf was too small, too thin, or the cut wasn’t clean. Sometimes I wait for the plant to get longer with leaves not compact anymore. Then I cut the head off to reset it in the soil and whatever is left on the stem I propagate. I keep the stem in the soil because without the head and other leaves pulling energy from the plant, it will push out more pups. Another way of propagating. Just make sure to wait until the plant is mature and well established! XOXO
I’ve had some leaves from a california sunset for about a month and they’re already starting to grow roots. I haven’t tried the incubation method i’ve only done water propagation and normal soil propagation and i tend to switch some leaves from soil to water just to kinda see what results i get.
The results are the same, I've just been experimenting and it seems this method is for me, the best because they stay pretty protected and it doesn't dry them out too quickly!
Ive tried a few times and mine will do fine for a few weeks but then will start losing their color, turning clear or transparent and then start getting black spots and start dying. Any idea what's happening and how to prevent it?
if using a grow light what do you recommend for time under the lamp? they are still working on their roots except a few that have started showing little hairs but NONE have grown another plant yet. im worries they are getting moved around too much or i over watered in the begging too soon
kim watham The key to succulents is patience. It will happen eventually and if they’re cuttings, longer. I usually do 4-6 hours a day about 4 feet away from the plants. Too close and they’ll burn. I suggest reading about it from manufacturers of grow lights or call them and ask them.
I have a question, is there a way to help balance root growth with the new plant growth? I have plenty of leaves that developped strong very long roots that are even branching out, but there's either no plant growing yet or a very tiny one. Or the opposite, a nice plant is growing but the roots are short and weak. Is there a way to help balance that out before the mother leaf dries out and leaves my new plant on its own like that? Or is it all out of my control and i shouldnt worry?
In my experience the ones with new pups are the ones that will develop into new plants. However,it takes forever to grow and you have to be truly diligent about babying them. With some patience and care, you will have healthy plants in about 2 years. However, sometimes you get twins and crested plants which are very cool because they are rare. Unfortunately, the ones with a lot of roots rarely becomes a plant, at least in my own experience. Your last statement, where you shouldn’t worry is the best attitude. If you want a new plant immediately, I would do cuttings instead. I hope this answers your ?
Thanks for this video. You may have answered this already. Curious what type of light you use? I have just been growing babies outside. There is bright light a few hours of the day. :-)
Czarmaine Datiles It will soon have roots once it stops getting nourishment from the leaf. It could already have some growing in the soil, you may not see it
Speaking of roots.. I have a crested elegans which dried up at the roots and seemed to be using its leaves to continue living.. I watered it this morning and immediately 99% of the leaves fell off 😭 Im left with a teeny tiny single baby leaf on the root bulb with no roots!
If a partially calloused over leaf is growing healthy roots underneath, should I cut off the calloused part to make sure the leaf isn’t giving energy to the calloused part?
Corgi Cats no just leave it alone. It’s not drawing any energy or nutrients when it’s calloused evidenced by the roots growing. It might hurt the leaf more if you do
I love to know more information and I have a question how do you propagate the ones that has the hair on them don't know what they are called but would like to know thank you
maria charles I know one named crassula tomentosa hairy. With crassulas the best way is to propagate via cutting although I was able to do one with water prop
KREATIVE GARDENER Just keep adding soil and spritzing water on them sooner or later it will bud. Patience is the key. Also, sorry, I just saw this comment, I never got a notification.
I’m trying to propagate jelly beans. I have a cutting and I let it callous over and put it in soil, but the leaves are shriveling. Also the leaves themselves I’m trying to propagate keep drying up and shriveling but I’m spraying them once a day when the soil dries. What do I do?
Camryn C as long as the shriveled leaves are the bottom ones its normal. Don’t spritz it everyday you might be overwatering it and rotting the healthy leaves. Just let it be try to set it in a warmer spot and water like normal. Try to tug on it a bit to see if there is resistance. If it does then there is root system of not leave it alone and stop watering until it does grow roots
Phyllis Fred oohhhh ouch! every time I heat “peat” I cringe because peat holds water and it’s hard to gauge how much water to give your succs when there’s a water retention element in the soil. Personally, I avoid peat anything. But that’s just me. Even though there’s drainage and coarse stuff in it like sand and perlite, how long does peat really hold moisture? Moisture is the enemy of succulent roots
oh my, at this moment i just spray some water, i haven.t watered them yet. But i will try to repot them with just coarse sand, perlite or just succs potting mix...phew that scared me....my poor babies...i have like more than 10 of cacti and succs...
Phyllis Fred If there is something else you want to add, pumice should be it. I haven’t tried coarse sand yet, but I hear good things because of it’s draining quality. All you have to remember is that succulents have their own survival source inside the leaves... water. That is why most people say they like neglect. But of course, I don’t neglect them fully because when I do, the mealybugs don’t. Mealybugs thrive in overwatered succs and they’re deadlier than moisture.
Kalesia Wright I think the best way is the same direction as when it was on the stem but I’ve thrown leaves on the ground and they seem to figure it out
I am just starting out with trying to propagate, but many of my leaves are dying or what appears to be starting to dry out, some even before the callus has formed. There are some that the day after I water it appears to dry out starting at the end where the callus is. Do you have any suggestions?
Sarah West It really depends on the type you are trying to propagate. There are succulents that do not propagate through leaves but through cuttings instead. So it’s either one of few things: The cut is not clean, the leaf is damaged, the type is not leaf propagation worthy, it’s sitting somewhere in direct sunlight, or its growing season is not on the cold months. My suggestion is to find out the type of succulent it is and find out if it can propagate via leaf.
I also am a curious person, seeking idea's & trial run experiments to find success in propagation. Two idea's stand out from all for me #1-starving leaves of what they need cause the troops to go out seeking thus=roots. #2-in keeping with depravation, leaves on soil with tips up not touching/covered by soil promotes less roots more plantlets=sturdier, quicker results. Theories ongoing. I too have accepted that a % of failure is unavoidable. Every leaf is different it goes without saying how affected each is one way or another. Tip: pull leaves off just watered plants gives better success. Just throwing out theories, any definate's will be shared. Appreciate all your shared knowledge, I'm an avid follower tho quiet ;-)
What is the Best way to propagate? I'm trying to Propagate using cottons, Is it Ok? Like I put it in dry cotton and only one is rooting, some don't.Is it ok to do this or a better ways to do?
Blue Berry why cotton? The roots can grow into the fibers and get stuck there. Then you can hurt the roots trying to remove it. You can just do on top of soil or just on a window sill with indirect sunlight. Check out my other videos, I have different ways that you can use what’s best for you! Good luck 👍🏽
Don’t spray unless they’re 100% dry. If u live in a humid place u don’t need to spray any water. Also if they’re inside, you should not spray too much water. Soggy means wet, so don’t spray
It is, but you can just lay it on anything away from the sun to callous. I just throw mine under a shady area of my garden.. two months later, plant babies. This is just to speed it up a bit. It’s not necessary. They’re really resilient 😃
@@Mannassiarora You can watch my other videos and see how because it depends on the weather where you are. Just remember that they already contain water so spraying them daily might rot them.
Estefania Boujon it was getting too much sun by a window perhaps and lack of water. I spritz those leaves everyday if it’s a hot day just maybe a spray blast from 12 inches away very subtle. If it’s getting too much heat I move it a bit farther away from the window. Remember glass generates heat
Hi, I love watching and listening to your videos you make it so interesting. I wonder what would happen if you put a touch of rooting compound on the shoots that don't root the ones on the window seal I mean ? Thanks.
deb b you can certainly try to do that but that rooting compound never worked for me. Like my grandpa used to say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it just relax and let it float." lol! So it's just a matter of personal preference really!😀
Katie Williams Thank you! I don’t know what area you’re at but for me here in california as long as it’s not in direct sun by the window it’s ok otherwise it’s gonna burn. If you have several leaves I would experiment putting them in different windows to see which one wins! lol! but yeah warm is good but hot is not. Remember they still need sunlight but not direct and water spritz every couple of days esp in cold weather maybe every 5 days
Unfortunately, the less water it holds, the harder it is to propagate by leaf. You’re better off propagating with cuttings, which is way better, in my opinion.
Nice video. I have couple of questions, first, Whats the purpose of covering your leaves that are in the containter? Second, how does it affect them vs not covering them? Last is, how long do you need to cover them? Because I think they need some air, Thank you for your video! Very informative. Hoping for your reply! :)
Eric Cartman ok first question I put the babies in the incubator container because through my experience I've lost so many babies because I don't diligently spritz the plant everyday as they grow and they dry out and die. This way they are in a sort of greenhouse environment with moisture and I find it keeps them thriving. When they get a little bigger I do set them out in the sun but gradually one hour at a time until they're big enough to be transplanted into a bigger pot and are more established. Hope that helps😀
Hi, Im new at propagating succulents so for now I let my leaves callus over and after that I put it in the potting mix for succulents and i mist it daily but some of the leaves are forming a wrinkles is that normal?
Neberagen Abugbug it depends. If it’s growing roots and a new baby plant then yes. But if it’s just wrinkly you might be giving it too much water. It also depends where it is. It should be outside under bright shade. Also the type of plant. Some plants don’t propagate from leaves. Have you watched all my propagation update videos? It will prob help you understand better!
Neberagen Abugbug you don’t have to have the same amount of vermicompost to potting mix, I think that’s too much and that stuff gets expensive. I use 1 tbsp worm casting to a six inch pot once a month. As for the sawdust, I wouldn’t use it because one it holds moisture and two it’s pretty dense. I would use a little perlite instead ratio maybe 1:5
Mykee Ambrad I’m sorry, but in my experience, no. You can try to pluck the roots off and see if it pushes out a pup, if it does, whoo hoo! If not, maybe best to propagate that plant with a cutting instead. If it’s a really fat leaf, then it might eventually push out a pup. Experiment and bury the roots in the soil and see. But again in my experience, I haven’t seen one grow into a plant, it just eventually dry up.
Sindhoori Somayajula Yes you can put them in the incubator after removing from the stem as long as the cut is clean and the leaves aren’t already damaged. 😃
@@Cj-bq5wb Hmm without more info, I really can’t give you an answer that might help. I have many many videos that you can watch to find what you’re looking for. I think I’ve covered a gamut of situations and explained a lot of factors, other than my own environment where you might be able to figure it out. A robust leaf, a clean cut, a dry location, under shade but with bright light is the perfect condition for leaf propagation. If that still doesn’t work, cuttings or pups will be your best bet. Hope that helps. XOXO!
leann stormfeltz try just putting them under shady area of your garden. The light is probably frying them. It’s the same as putting them in direct sunlight. You can also put them by a window that gets filtered light, not direct.
The cut has to be clean otherwise it will rot. I’m sorry that’s happening to you but make sure your cut is clean and not broken. Check out my other videos about how to get a clean cut. Also there are some succulents that don’t do well with leaf propagation.
amin salehi if they are in an Incubator they really shouldn’t dry up because of the greenhouse effect. If they have roots it’s a good idea to sprinkle a little soil on the roots before you mist. If they are drying out too fast it means you are either exposing them to direct sun or it’s too hot where they are at.
Soul Sugar Succulent no they’re not in incubator but they’re in my bedroom under north-side window, they’v started making ruts after while, the roots become dark brown and die, but the point is i spray on them Twice a day I don’t know my watering is high or low should I keep them moist all the time until the new plans come up ??
amin salehi first the plants need south facing sun. Remember morning sun afternoon shade. Next, they should not be on a window sill getting direct sun. You should put them under shade at first when they are leaves. When they root up, put them on top of soil same location as mentioned above. Spritz once a day or every other day if not hot. Too much water is my guess. Either way too much Water and hot sun will burn roots
If I ever leave my house for more than 2 days or 1 I always take my succulents that I’m propagating cause usually if I don’t water them everyday the roots shrink
Sleepyrat maybe a month but usually if it’s gonna have pups, the pups come out first then the roots. It depends. Just keep going with it, it might still grow a pup. What kind of plant is it?
Florencia Ojeda yes you can leave them in there until you feel it is ready to be planted into a pot just make sure they are under indirect sunlight until they are mature enough to be exposed to full sun
Thank you! i was worried because i have put five of them in water , just the tip( this is my first time doing this) and after a week they have all turned yellow and soft like they are rotting. I dont know if it was nature or if it's me that i'm doing it wrong or maybe putting them in water for too long. thanks!!
Florencia Ojeda that happens sometimes for several reasons, one is it is not a good clean cut (there's a break) or the cut healed up. The leaf has to be freshly removed from the stem and placed directly in the water. If the cut healed up, then it is pretty much closed and water will not be able to enter it and feed it. When it is closed then your leaf will turn yellow first then rot. The other reason is that not all leaves will be successful in water propagation. I think 30% of my leaves fail. It really is a gamble sometimes.
Rodvince Tecson It depends. If the window only gets filtered light, yes. Otherwise, somewhere where it gets only filtered light. Misting is not necessary in places where it’s humid. If it’s dry, yes, I will mist every maybe 3 days not every day.
Soul Sugar Succulent Thanks. My echeveria leaves that i try to propagate dies, Cause i live in the philippines and it's so humid, yet i mist them. I'll probably try to put them on the cactus soil with minimal to no misting.
Wishrad It depends. If it’s outside in dry hot climate, yes. If it’s humid and there’s already moisture in the air, then you don’t need it, otherwise they will just rot. Knowing your weather helps a lot. Here in the valley there’s moisture in the air so I don’t do it.
Christina Eilers yes or you can make your own. 3 parts potting soil and 1 part perlite. That's what I use and I add a little steer manure just to get some fertilizer in there. I will make a video about it. Stay tuned
Thanks for the video. I've been growing succulents for a few years.. I would love to send you some pics, do you have an email address I could send you photos on? Thanks Sang x
Incubator - a container that has a clear lid, usually a to-go container from your favorite restaurant where you put your leaves to propagate in order to create a greenhouse effect, just like the example I featured in this video.
How about educating us on how to handle the propagated leaves and what works best? How long til you move to soil? Do they ever get water (like a misting) or do you wait til they move to soil? This is the kind of content I came for

Good for you! It’s always so fulfilling to watch them grow!❤️
I'm so sorry I didn't see this in the last few weeks I tossed all the leaves! 🙄 Oops 😬 cool vid. Thanks

Nice. Would love to see the updates on this further. I have not been succesful in propagating leaves yet. Still struggling ☺

Eram Abbasi of course! I'll be doing another in another month. These babies would be a little bigger
Soul Sugar Succulent ok thanks! I’ll move them over to a different spot.
Very nice. I'll try this .Greetings from Spain!

All of my succulent leaves are only growing red roots, will they ever grow another succulent?
Update:
My succulent leaves are finally growing tiny new succulents in between the long red roots :D
@@custardcreamish hi. How long did it take ?
Usually when they just grow roots, it takes forever to grow a pup. Sometimes they don't even get pups. Some leaves push out pups right away. Still, don't give up on the roots baby, They will eventually push out a pup! Thank you so much 😊 I appreciate that! Sorry but I just saw this comment. Idk why!
It takes forever to get a mature plant from a pup. Something like 2 years. Thats with constant supervision too!
Sorry but I just saw this comment. Idk why!

Thanks for this! I'm going to try the diy incubator.

I love propagating, but am finding some of my Echeveria leaves are growing a mini plant without roots…are these going to fail? They’re looking healthy on the mother leaf-but no roots x
they will eventually root up if you lay them on soil. Yes, different leaves will act differently. The ones with roots and no pups are usually the ones that won’t produce pups no matter how long you care for them.😭🤷🏽♀️
@@SucculentSoul7 That’s reassuring. Thank you 😀💜
It’s a numbers game. But I have no luck w the lighter leaves. Like from pink/white ones. They always rot.

I'd like to see a video on when to put the propagated babies into their own pots...like when and how to do it. My babies struggle when I put them into their own pots and a lot of them don't make it. When are they ready to be transplanted?
Chako here you can start with this one ua-cam.com/video/XderN11DPVg/v-deo.html
XOXO
@@SucculentSoul7 thanks for replying ☺️I am keeping my fingers crossed.Lets see how the nature heals and works as you said.
Love your incubator idea and recycle. It would be cool to see this tray growth in a month or two to show the progress. Where do you put your incubator? Sunny or dark or light? Inside or outside? Thanks.

Normally the ones who root alot don't produce new plantlets😫
Pandora Santos that's when we have to really practice patience because they will eventually inside the incubator

but no baby plant at all
You are so precious!
My more current videos will evidence that!
btw, good luck!
Did u cut the leaves and left it at window? Not in soil? At the beginning. Please tell me exact process u did. I need it very much.
Good luck!!! That’s what these types of props need is patience!
@@SucculentSoul7 thank you! I was just scared of doing something wrong and not noticing but your video calmed me down, thanks
@@abcdisaster 🥰 XOXO!
@@SucculentSoul7 just a single day after watching your video, over half of my succulent leaves grew roots and new plants! Bless your energy
@@abcdisaster So awesome to hear that! Thank you!
@@SucculentSoul7 LOL! Yes gray hairs may begin to show before this pup arrives! thanks for your reply!
Please talk about mealy bugs and how to rid your plants of mealy bugs. Thank you.
Do you mind sharing the approximate temperature conditions you've found successful for propagation?
Beeing You inside the house in a sunny windowsill the temperature of between 74-78 degrees F
Any idea what's happening and how to prevent it?
overwatering, over misting, too humid, not the right leaf to prop. Any of these reasons could be the culprit
if using a grow light what do you recommend for time under the lamp? they are still working on their roots except a few that have started showing little hairs but NONE have grown another plant yet. im worries they are getting moved around too much or i over watered in the begging too soon
kim watham The key to succulents is patience.
Samantha White no worries, filtered bright light is perfect whether inside
Or out 😀
Very informative!
I got a question though, and idk what to do.. I got a leaf propagation with a tiny baby in it but no roots, mother leaf is dying.
Czarmaine Datiles It will soon have roots once it stops getting nourishment from the leaf. It could already have some growing in the soil, you may not see it
That's a relief! It just lays there on top of the soil, i keep lifting it checking its growth. Maybe I should stop haha!
Speaking of roots.. I have a crested elegans which dried up at the roots and seemed to be using its leaves to continue living.. I watered it this morning and immediately 99% of the leaves fell off 😭 Im left with a teeny tiny single baby leaf on the root bulb with no roots!
Czarmaine Datiles Sorry about that but sometime casualties happen check this out ua-cam.com/video/cyLYzrni62E/v-deo.html
With crassulas the best way is to propagate via cutting although I was able to do one with water prop
maria charles y
I've actually started the fuzzy ones the same way she does in this video, with just the leaves laid on potting medium.
Ma'am my echieveria lola leave got roots but no bud
I notice your roots are like white or pink, mine are kind of brown. Is that a bad sign?
SEA HOUSE no it just depends on the type of plant🥰
Can i mix cocopeat in my potting soil, coarse sand and perlite for succulent/cacti soil?
Hey love this video! Is there a proper way to lay the leaves down?
Kalesia Wright I think the best way is the same direction as when it was on the stem but I’ve thrown leaves on the ground and they seem to figure it out
Soul Sugar Succulent ok thank you so much. Hope they do figure it out
I am just starting out with trying to propagate, but many of my leaves are dying or what appears to be starting to dry out, some even before the callus has formed.
Soul Sugar Succulent thank you for your response!
Lori Meusch well thank you so much! Those are all very sound tips for sure!!
The roots and tiny bud got white molds when I checked them this morning. I am doing water propagation. Why is that???
Ice Manatad I think u have mealy bugs. Just take a qtip with 90% alcohol to wipe it off
What is the Best way to propagate? I'm trying to Propagate using cottons, Is it Ok? Like I put it in dry cotton and only one is rooting, some don't.Is it ok to do this or a better ways to do?
Blue Berry why cotton? The roots can grow into the fibers and get stuck there. Then you can hurt the roots trying to remove it. You can just do on top of soil or just on a window sill with indirect sunlight. Check out my other videos, I have different ways that you can use what’s best for you! Good luck 👍🏽
Thanks😊😊
Blue Berry Anytime!
So I tried propagating, but how come after spraying water and the next day, they’re soggy. I barely sprayed water on them🥺🥺are they ever gunna dry?
Don’t spray unless they’re 100% dry. If u live in a humid place u don’t need to spray any water. Also if they’re inside, you should not spray too much water. Soggy means wet, so don’t spray
Just after cutting the leaves , we can put it on soil or we have to keep it for 2 3 days for callus ? Is it necessary ?
It is, but you can just lay it on anything away from the sun to callous. I just throw mine under a shady area of my garden.. two months later, plant babies. This is just to speed it up a bit. It’s not necessary. They’re really resilient 😃

The Story of My Art & Succulent Life thanks
hey, I have a question, the little roots that were growing at my propagation leaves dryed out , why could that be?
Estefania Boujon it was getting too much sun by a window perhaps and lack of water. I spritz those leaves everyday if it’s a hot day just maybe a spray blast from 12 inches away very subtle. If it’s getting too much heat I move it a bit farther away from the window. Remember glass generates heat
Ill try with the next ones, thanx!
Dehydration most likely and a led light would help with growth
Do you leave the "incubator" outside?
Linda Walter yes I do but under indirect sunlight just a bright area maybe under a porch
I have pink roots with dry propagation but once I put in soil, they disappeared, should I still keep the leaf?
Sim玫 I’m not sure how it disappeared but it won’t hurt to leave it to see if it grows more roots

Maggie Stupar thanks Maggie!
So they need to be warm? I can't seem to figure this out and the only thing I m not doing is having them in a warm area . Love watching your videos

@@SucculentSoul7 ahh ok!! Thanks also for answering my question ^u^)👍

@@SucculentSoul7 i've just started watering it for 4days now. So is its because of overwatering?
Neberagen Abugbug I don’t know where the leaves are and if it’s cold or warm where you live
One last question can I make a 1:1:1 garden soil vermicast and sawdust as a medium?
Neberagen Abugbug you don’t have to have the same amount of vermicompost to potting mix, I think that’s too much and that stuff gets expensive. I use 1 tbsp worm casting to a six inch pot once a month. As for the sawdust, I wouldn’t use it because one it holds moisture and two it’s pretty dense. I would use a little perlite instead ratio maybe 1:5
Mine became yellow and mushy...what should I do?
The cut is probably not a clean cut. Usually it’s a goner, might have to try again
my leaves have plenty of roots, but no babies 😢 will they eventually grow?
Mykee Ambrad I’m sorry, but in my experience, no. You can try to pluck the roots off and see if it pushes out a pup, if it does, whoo hoo! If not, maybe best to propagate that plant with a cutting instead. If it’s a really fat leaf, then it might eventually push out a pup. Experiment and bury the roots in the soil and see. But again in my experience, I haven’t seen one grow into a plant, it just eventually dry up.
@@SucculentSoul7 this is heartbreaking 😭💔 but thank you for the response, ill try experimenting 💕😊

Sindhoori Somayajula Yes you can put them in the incubator after removing from the stem as long as the cut is clean and the leaves aren’t already damaged. 😃

leann stormfeltz I find graptoverias will propagate.Have you tried my incubator method? Maybe the cut isn’t clean, that’s one factor
Soul Sugar Succulent theres no juices coming from the leaves and i have a light over them during the day and turn it off at night
leann stormfeltz try just putting them under shady area of your garden. The light is probably frying them. It’s the same as putting them in direct sunlight. You can also put them by a window that gets filtered light, not direct.
Soul Sugar Succulent i have them in side and the light doesnt produce any heat plus i dont have a window that i can put them on in my room

The cut has to be clean otherwise it will rot. I’m sorry that’s happening to you but make sure your cut is clean and not broken. Check out my other videos about how to get a clean cut. Also there are some succulents that don’t do well with leaf propagation.
I have two Pachyphytum oviferum cuttings been sitting on top of the soil for about half a year and I still see nothing 😂 the leaves are still fat tho
Vivian Kaman Chan What?!! That’s very weird! 😂 Time to propagate via cuttings instead. I mean I’m pretty patient but that takes the cake
i dont know why after a while , when my leaves have roots but after while the roots become dry:-( i spry them twice a day what i gatta do?
amin salehi if they are in an Incubator they really shouldn’t dry up because of the greenhouse effect.
You’re overwatering them, try every other day! ❤️ Hope this helps!
Love this video
If I ever leave my house for more than 2 days or 1 I always take my succulents that I’m propagating cause usually if I don’t water them everyday the roots shrink
Sleepyrat If it has roots why don’t you plant it in soil?
Soul Sugar Succulent The actual succulent hasn’t grown only the roots
Sleepyrat sometimes they just get roots and never get a pup
Soul Sugar Succulent aw man 😕 how many days dose it usually take to get a pup?
Sleepyrat maybe a month but usually if it’s gonna have pups, the pups come out first then the roots. It depends. Just keep going with it, it might still grow a pup. What kind of plant is it?
Hi! i have a question: how many days can you put a leaf in water? is there a period of time? or do you just do it until it grows roots? thanks!
The Story of My Art & Succulent Life thank you! I will keep trying then
Thanks! for info🌼🌸🌺
redredwine1277 Anytime, my dear!
Do you just let them sit on your windowsill or do you mist it every now and then?
Rodvince Tecson It depends. If the window only gets filtered light, yes. Otherwise, somewhere where it gets only filtered light. Misting is not necessary in places where it’s humid. If it’s dry, yes, I will mist every maybe 3 days not every day.
Soul Sugar Succulent Thanks. My echeveria leaves that i try to propagate dies, Cause i live in the philippines and it's so humid, yet i mist them. I'll probably try to put them on the cactus soil with minimal to no misting.
Rodvince Tecson perfect!
how do you sow it from seeds?
which type of soil use for rockrose
vidhyut Mehra I use fast draining soil. Check out my video about this... ua-cam.com/video/mIpGcgl2QDo/v-deo.html
I adore you!
Krista Quiggle Likewise! Thank you!
You need to lightly water them with a spray bottle or something every few days!
Wishrad It depends. If it’s outside in dry hot climate, yes. If it’s humid and there’s already moisture in the air, then you don’t need it, otherwise they will just rot. Knowing your weather helps a lot. Here in the valley there’s moisture in the air so I don’t do it.
Soul Sugar Succulent thank you! This is super helpful :)
Wishrad you’re welcome!
I'm confused. I thought they were supposed to callous
Eugenia Sosa I didn’t do it to mine because it is Water prop not soil or air
Do u use cactus soil in your containers?
Christina Eilers yes or you can make your own. 3 parts potting soil and 1 part perlite. That's what I use and I add a little steer manure just to get some fertilizer in there. I will make a video about it. Stay tuned
Thanks for the video. I've been growing succulents for a few years.. I would love to send you some pics, do you have an email address I could send you photos on? Thanks Sang x
Sangita Perrins sure! Send it to foxpreserve@gmail.com
Omg you are my long lost twin
Jen Niffer 😀😀😀
Those leafs are off a jade I think, shudent need to incubate any of these dont over water and let them dry out.
Also change to coco pete for much better results
They do great incubated. They are graptosedums not jade, but I’ve incubated jade too. I find cocoir to hold too much moisture, not good with succs
how do you propagate by air?? do you only leave it by the window?
Selene Diaz yes believe it or not it will grow roots just like on my window sill
The Story of My Art & Succulent Life what about watering?
Selene Diaz spritz with 2 blasts everyday
What do you mean "incubator"?
Incubator - a container that has a clear lid, usually a to-go container from your favorite restaurant where you put your leaves to propagate in order to create a greenhouse effect, just like the example I featured in this video.
😊
Some do some donts
You are so cute.
Trinh Dang 😀
So only advice I heard was be patient. Not helpful.
Ashley H you can’t hurry nature. It’s an impossibility.
How about educating us on how to handle the propagated leaves and what works best? How long til you move to soil? Do they ever get water (like a misting) or do you wait til they move to soil? This is the kind of content I came for
Ashley H absolutely! Watch the other videos, I get pretty intensive about all that! And I do a lot of it. All that can’t be done in just one video. Subscribe and binge you won’t regret it! XOXO!
Is pralite important for succulents soil ?
Yes, perlite is important to make the drainage fast because succulents don’t like their roots wet for any length of time
