A transmission, especially a manual will greatly increase the efficiency of a motor. And using the transmission reverse gets rid of a bunch of electronics and greatly increases electrical safety by not switching polarity on the motor. And you should still use the clutch so you dont mess up the transmission.
You can add transmission to any electric motor like in a robot or EV and it will make it even better in terms of torque speed curve but because of weight they don't. I have two Teslas no oil change for last 6 years no gearbox ! But certain applications like helicopters you really need a gear box so to make it direct drive like cars you need very special new kind of motors that I'm developing.
I love what you guys and gals are doing. I have a 94 GT mustang that would love to go electric! We need custom electric cars here in the Maritimes! CANADIAN SUPERMAN APPROVES
it’s a question of having a gearbox that will last! If your going from a big diesel and have a small electric motor then you might be ok. The torque from an Electric motor can spell death to them. Porsche do have just a 2 speed transmission on their EV. Most have just opted for a single speed and if you want 4WD then just have 2 motors. Installation wise it’s nicer, no transmission in the middle of the vehicle or props. Room for the battery that what way and superior handling from keeping the masses with the wheelbase and you can get 50/50 distribution. In the end it’s all a compromise. Take care M.
Your right you pull the plug wire off of em and just before you hit tdc yo ignite and it runs backwards. All my vehicles are 4 strikers so they only go forward but I appreciate your in site
@@WebbMotorworks no it was my mistake, I misheard you explain how many rotations per mile. I heard 580 something and my dyslexia related that figure to 5280. Rotations equalling feet/mi made me think 12in circumference. Dyslexia is a hell of a drug haha. Keep up the great work! Really want to see a transfercase mounted motor for truck hybridization. Or maybe even a driveshaft motor, or differential cover replacement that is a motor.
@suntzu6122 the world of EV tech is updated everyday. By the end of the week my question was answered. They answered it by providing another solution, the Torque Box. That is a kind of gear reduction box, much like a manual transmission without the clutch. But their is a kind of centrifugal clutch. The moral of the story is just a bit and progress will answer any question with a better solution.
@@WebbMotorworks :Sorry.I should've been more specific. When you were driving the F-150 and showed the dash as you were driving, you got up to 60 mph and the tach was at 1000 RPM. That was amazing.

We went forward by going back. Instead of changing the ICE engine with an electric and keeping everything else the same we went direct drive with high inefficiency on the motorway. ok at 34 seconds in this guy just proved hes full of crap. A gasoline engine doesnt "always run at about 7 or 800 rpm. thats idle for a v8 and 4 cylinders can idle at 800-1000. Typical cruis speeds on a v engine is about 1200 with red line in the 5-6000 range. 4 cyl cruise at 2000-2500 rpm and redline in the 6-7000 range. and to all the EV cult members, yes ive been a mechanic for 40 years.
😂Sorry maddhater,Thankyou for pointing out my mistake. You are correct. I should have said at idle,,when in neutral, or clutch is depressed at a standstill while in gear , a gas motor rotates around 700 to 1000 rpm . I just put an a iPhone on a tripod and talk. I should probably spend more time analyzing and editing my videos.😊

sshh dont tell the EV cult.
Transmission is decreases efficiency, it is a comprimise
@@due737ejdnd in this case it would greatly increase efficiency.

I used to run a direct drive input shaft on a power glide in my dirt race car, worked great. TCI #TC-745000
Ya those powerglides were awesome
you do know a pwerglide is a 2 speed trans right? so it wasnt direct drive.
EV absolutly needs a transmission. Transmission can help to extend the range of EV by reduce the rpm of motor.
... What country are you from?
The should help with towing with a ev. Especially going up and down the mountains. It would save on the battery.

I eventually want to convert my c-10 to an ev, but I still want a manual transmission.
For EVs, there is a 2speed power glide that has an electric pump on it, for the EVs
Ya you can’t beat the old power glide! I had an old casty in my first car. Used to slam it in reverse for emergency braking haha
Sorry buddy but 2 strokes will run backwards if the timing is off
Old military boats also were designed to be run in reverse

Why did it seem like your math makes your wheel circumference equal 1ft
Haha. Thanks for the input. I should have said wheel circumference is 108 inches, not diameter. You are now hired as my official editor.

Clutch doesn't help protect the gears when switching at high wheel speed?
It does and it should be used.
@@JoeZelensky i agree but dont watch me driving my 5 speed s10. lol
Hello sir .. please do you need a clutch when connecting the motor to the transmission or not ?
Yes if you are running a standard you use the existing clutch, with the gear reduction no clutch required .
Can you use an automatic transaxle in a conversion to electric motor.
You probably can but it has to be strong because its 100% power right off the rip. UNLIKE a gas car which ramps up

Better range and performance with a trans
How about a 2004 Ford excursion 4*4 diesel, go electric?
look at some videos about the electric f150 before you try.
1000 RPM at 60mph?
Wow.That's just barely above idle at hwy speed.
They should get great gas mileage

well a motor is any unit that provides motive force. so a gas engine IS a motor, but an electric cant be an engine.

short answer no they dont need a trans, you can bolt the motor to the wheels or use inwheel motors
very inefficient to go with 1 speed on an electric. just because an electric motor can doesnt mean its best.
Change the oil in your truck!!!
