Imposter? Oh hell no. So many of today's "successful" musicians have so little real talent. You are as genuine as the come. I can't WAIT till you make it big.
At the older, wiser end of a career in public service and a life pretty well lived, your poetry here rings true for this old guy. Keep it small, intimate and caring. What you do with that gentle talent of yours is a gift that's better not being on billboards and top twenty listings.
Thank you, this song reached me this morning, well performed, and deeply meaningful to me as I'm searching these past months for what the purpose of all the 'stuff' I'm doing in my life is and if I even want to be doing it, and yet i keep spinning my wheels on random off-shoots, losing focus on what I really value, and wasting time basically, and really, none of us want to do that, even though we can't seem to help it throughout the day LOL - Thank you again, I never usually leave youtube comments, but this meant a lot to me to hear this song this morning, Thank you.
I'm not one of these people that can afford to sponsor someone so talented. But I do enjoy listening to your music. I pray that you have many many many many more years doing what you enjoy.
I can relate so deeply to this feeling of waste. I struggle with this since ages and I feel it deep in my bones. And sometimes, getting along with yourself is impossible because of that feeling of disappointment which makes you feel lost. You have this constant feeling that your're betraying, sabotaging yourself. You look in the mirror and you don't know if you're looking at what you would like to be or at what you are.
How true Giacomo. I wonder what brought AY to these lyrics? I’m still trying to turn myself into something I would like to be and I’m 70. The other part of says why bother.
@@raoulheinrichvonmerten4851 Thanks for your reply! sometimes a song comes around, and without realizing it, it’s exactly what you need. i feel that way about this one. hopefully in a year or two, i’ll be back on my feet.
Allison, I can assure that at the age of 67, I would not waste my time watching and listening to your videos if I didn't believe you were exquisitely talented. I had the privilege of watching the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, and many more explore and grow musically. As an artist I can assure you that it is the journey, and the evolving destination of your path that makes an artists life worth living. Your song is beautifully written, insightful, and thoughtful, but you need guitar or keyboard solo to bring it to the next level. I know you can do it. Have faith, and don't give up your dream, you would regret it Allison. My own daughters are 31 and 24 years old, and I taught them to always believe in themselves. Bottom line, you have real and growing talent.
I just discovered you about an hour ago. Impressed would be such an understatement as to nearly be an insult. There have been many amazing ladies with extraordinary voices from many different eras, and from all genres, for whom I have had great respect and admiration most of my life. These would include Bessie Smith, Mary Ford, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Patsy Cline, Rikki Lee Jones and Emmylou Harris, to name but a few. My instant gut reaction, hearing you, is that you are destined for greatness. It only took a couple of minutes to know that you are a future legend. Go get it. It's out there, and it's waiting for you. Liked and subbed just now. Keep `em coming, and I'll tell everybody I know about you.
I was watching some old Joni Mitchell song videos from the late 60's early 70's last night on YT..... and this original of yours reminds me of her writing, playing, and singing. And that's the highest compliment in my book. I look forward to hearing more originals from you!
I often return to this song now and then. I regard Allison as one of the greatest singers in the world, but her songwriting sometimes gets overshadowed by her vocal gifts, which is a shame. She is a brilliant composer, and this song is a shining example. And, by the way, she’s loaded with stage presence and star quality. I’ve never seen anyone more deserving of superstardom.
Allison, as a 16 year old with 56 years of experience, you have certainly nailed it on how most people live. Always sacrificing self in order to please that "stranger" which in truth could not care less. Great song. Beautiful voice. 5 stars 👍
Congratulations on having the courage to write and release an original. Something most UA-camr's won't, or can't, do. And kudos on that original being such a wonderful song. Something that doesn't happen very often. That's 2 home runs in 2 pitches.

Absolutely sublime. The music itself is deeply soothing and reflective. It's like looking at yourself in a pool of clear water. It matches perfectly with the message. Most of us are stuck in jobs we don't like or simply tolerate. Why do we do this? Well, to be fair, it's not really for "the approval of strangers," as the song suggests. Even primitive man had to hunt, gather, build shelters, and do a whole lot of other things he'd presumably have preferred not to for the sake of defending against hunger, cold, sickness, and death. Still, the message of the song stands. A heartfelt thank you to Allison Young for making this.
This is making me emotional. I've had a rough day feeling like I'm going round in circles much like your song describes. Thank you Allison. Simply wonderful..
Glad you enjoyed it!
beautiful! soul soothing voice, you are a gift.
Thank you Allison for your talent and eloquence. I just found this one and it's good. My Mom died just a few weeks after you recorded this and it hits me......My Dad died just a week after her....he missed her so much. I don't know just thanks. My Mom's maiden name is Young from Goderich, Ontario, Canada; both her sisters moved to the States in the 1950's.
Neil Young was from that area too, and I love his music, especially the acoustic songs he wrote and sang ...
Alisson, don't you dare let life put your talent and dreams on the back burner. If you do the fire might go out. Just keep what you do best because your day is just a heartbeat away. Remember, Willie had a tough go of it in the beginning.
