The fact James does this for hours on end at live shows ( sometimes even faster than the original track lol ) while standing up and singing, just shows why he's one of the gods of metal. He ain't human man lol
Efficient picking is the key. No strain, nice and loose, letting the speed come naturally and confidently. When Meshuggah play Bleed, they barely move a muscle at all, with the exception of the vocalist :p
Ive lost yhe taste for Metallica ever since the Black album, got it back a little with Death Magnetic but reguardless James is by far the best downpicker ever
It’s not hard @ The Hunter…
@@MFKitten that's the difference. They're not moving at all, same goes for someone like Glenn Tipton who's also very efficient. Papa Het however is very relaxed but you can see his hand moving a lot
Vinnie: “As far as rhythm guitar goes, Dime just loved James Hetfield. He said he had the fastest right hand in music.”
Now that Maradona is dead, we can call James the Hand of God!
Kirk plays same shit, so there is 2 fastest right hands.
James' downpicking is so legendary. And you're killing it! Now cover of Master, Toronto '86 please 😬😛
Haha thats a challenge 😅💪
toronto86?
@@marc3d this one. Totally nuts 🤯 ua-cam.com/video/5ESicEzUtqk/v-deo.html
@@marc3d toronto 1986 concert
NO! The fastest one is Canada 856 its about 20%+ bpm on all songs. I think it best one!
upd: whoops! Im sorry, Toronto is Canada)
Awesome right hand technique ! No movement wasted ! Chapeau !
Thanks man!! 💪💪🤘
Just like you
James only alternate picks when downpicking would literally shatter his wrist.
His downpick skill is inhuman. It's like he pumped all his souls into DEX and END
Alternate fast picking I managed to get pretty good at. Having played in a thrash band for a number of years really helped with that. But yeah, James' downpicking is seriously wrist-wrecking. Even Creeping Death, which sounds and seems like a simple riff to play but getting it up to speed is a lot harder than you think. Then there is Master of Puppets and Blackened, which are much harder riffs but also downpicked. He is a machine.
Man, the dual tracking is flawless. It's so fucking tight, I'm so jealous. It really adds a whole other level to the complexity
Thanks man! 💪
First
That Fight Fire With Fire riff was clean, you should do a lesson on that riff alone!
Haha as expected :D
@@KarriHanninen tee lessoni siitä se on vaikee riffi, ihan vammanen
you might be the first person i've seen, that played every riff in the video correct
Nailed the Blackened riff. I see it played incorrectly so often. Nice to see someone do it .... justice! 🤣🤣
Take your like and get out of here
@@loganstrickler thanks 😂😂
That transistion from Creeping to Damage was tense my brother. Love the way you segue from song to song.
Very tight 🤘
A more 'modern' Metallica song but My Apocalypse from Death Magnetic is a real wrist shredder too.
That guitar is sick, especially the headstock
been looking for comments about his guitar. do you know what kind it is?
@@Timewalker13 looks like a mayones to me
@@GnomeLoft That guitar is mint bro wym
@@Timewalker13 the brand mayones, I agree the guitar does in fact look mint
@@GnomeLoft Oh my bad I read mayonnaise 😂
I’ve always wanted Metallica to do a modern album in the style of …And Justice For All. Crushing thrash album, both in sound and riffage. 🤘😀🤘
all they can do nowadays is rip their own songs off
Hey hope you are doing well and happy in life. I'm staying subbed and will continue to enjoy your vids. If you choose to start uploading again I will be there to listen, but even if not I want to thank you and say how great this channel was. Cheers mate
You’re either wincing in pain or feeling the thrashy groove \m/
same thing
man I missed u so much , good to see that hand of yours keep getting faster and faster
Wow man, nice work!! Good to see you havin a good time rocking out too
It takes many lonely nights to reach this level of wrist stamina
Respect! trust me I know how hard it is to figure out how everything is played (and you nailed it) and actually perform it. To add to the challenge, try adding the bridge riff of master, the rythm section of ffwf during the solo and the bridge of damage inc.
Great job man! I’m actually practicing this song too. I’ve loved it since it first came out.
Been watching your videos for like 4 years now, glad to see you’re still tearing up the riffs 🤘🏻
I can only say one thing brother... "Suomi Finland Perkele!"
Kiitos ja hyvää päivää jatkoa! 🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮
As always, a pleasure to watch and listen man!! My best wishes for you bro
Thanks Anto! Nice to hear from you 💪💪
Love the part @ 4:18 🤘😀🤘
Karri u crazy bro....awesome playing as always man, always pleasure to watch u play man 🤘
Bad ass man! 🔥🤘👍🎸 much respect. That's a work out for sure
If I player Master of Puppets and Blackened back to back I swear it feels like my arm is going to explode.
Crunchy and tight💥
These riffs in Standard Tuning sound heavier 'to me' than most modern metal riffs tuned to Drop Z.
Amazing technique and how you play guitar so so nice. Regards Tapani Ilmari R 🥳🤘👍🇫🇮
Hey dude, hope you're doing well! We miss your videos!
Hey man, doing well thanks! I should be able to work on new videos in the upcoming weeks :)
Years Good Karri!!!! Healthy Lucky And Happy!!!! 😉
Great playing and awesome guitar man!
Your hand must be on fire 🔥☝️
Wow! You're an excellent player, Karri. Great content as always!
Ripping! You're an inspiration dude. Much respect.
tight playing man🤟🏼👍🏼
Awesome job! These are really fast and tough songs!
Thanks and definitely! 🤘🤘
Awesome choice of songs. Great video.
great stuff karri!
Master of puppets destroys my forearm everytime
Awesome playing dude. James is beast🔥
Thanks, he sure is!! 💪
So crisp. Well done!
Awesome playing, their best thrash songs. I'd put four horsemen here, first riff is hard for me
Thanks and I agree! Four horsemen should have been here as well 👌👌
James Hetfield and Dino Cazares. Grandmasters of metal rhythm picking.
Dino is so damn underrated
They both have wrists of steel. Also, shout outs Fredrik and Marten from Meshuggah. I still don’t get how they play Bleed live
Yeahhh from Mexico 💯🤟
brother, your tone and playing is so amazing, could you share what youre playing through? amps, simulators, fx chains? really tight playing, very impressive
Thanks man! In this video Im just using Fortin Nameless (No complaints now preset by Ola Englund) on the guitars without any extra eq or post processing 💪
@@KarriHanninen thank you!!!!
That was sick
Please make more videos ✌️
You switched up the drums on the first iteration of Fight Fire with Fire and I think I honestly prefer the drums like that now...
Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed 😅
Bad ass bro 🤘🤘🤘🤘
When James is playing DH with one hand and drinking tea, with pointed little finger, with his other hand ;)
Can you do a similar video with Iced Earth's old songs like Stormrider, Stygian etc ? Awesome picking btw!
Right hand game on point!! MT Powerkit for drums?
Thanks and yeah 💪🤘
That was fucking great! 🤘
Excellent! You are the beast
Awesome stuff dude
Awesome new axe!
Imagine being in a band with this fellow. It would be hard cause he's so good you would feel like you had to push yourself to even be worthy
This sounds fantastic! Nice job
great chops! what guitar is that man? looks very cool
Sounds killer as always ! 🙂🇫🇷
I really wanna see the outtakes! But damn dude. I couldn’t play all those riffs in one continuous fashion
Great job
Soitat helvetin hyvin. 🤘
Talented guitarist ... Love your skills.. 🤘🏼😊👍❤️
Thanks man! 🤘
Awesome as always Karri! \m/
Thanks Paul! 🤘🤘
Great Riffing 🤟, what guitar pick are you using ?
RIP. Right hand ..
Great technique! The verse riff of The End of The Line I feel could also be included here, it can be a bit tricky imo
Noice chops
When I started playing guitar, I usually played 6-8 hours a day. When I had played maybe a year or so, I often played all 5 Metallica albums in a row (not everything but about 80%). It is so sad we didn't have any video cameras or recording equipment back then. It would be so awesome to see, how well I really played...probably not as good as I felt, but my picking hand has never been as good as it was. After some year and a half or so, I got my drivers licence (and girlfriend(s)) and I didn't play that much. Even had some months breaks. Now I haven't played at all in over a decade...and by "at all" I mean, that I have probably played under two hours in total. I have severe issues with my arms and shoulders, so it's not fun anymore 🙁
And I forgot to say, that your playing was tight as hell 🤘
James Hetfield is the Gold Standard all are measured against.
Fecking awesome!
Thanks Tony!! 💪💪
the first one seems to be the absolute toughest
You're the man!!🤘
What brand is the guitar..love the headstock and color
Raato 🤘🤘
Awesome !!!
Ok Professor Karri!! Mix and video and everything sounds great, metalhead!! That guitar is wonderful! Keeping up ur CHOPS, huh! I attempted Dyer's Eve one time but I got tired and am kind of old now, haha... next lesson please play some SLAYER!! */w\TMFR/w\*
Hey man, so cool to hear from you!! I need to setup some streams again hah 🤘
Hardest TestAment songs next please. Eric Peterson is a monster player will killer technique!
🤘🤘James Hatfield = down picking god 🤘🤘
As James put it, practice like you are going to compete for the Olympic.
For old times sake…..
HaVoK!!!!
Oh yeah that would be sick 💪
amazing
Great great selection...I'm assuming it's not All down picked ?? Hyvin tehty !! 💘 🎸🎧🎼🎵🎶
I tried to down pick all downpicking riffs, but they have of course some alt picking like in Dyers eve and Fight fire with fire 💪
@@KarriHanninen Are ALL JH rhythms down picked ?? Puppets? Blackened? Battery? Damage Inc? It seems almost impossible that ALL of the songs on the entire album M.O.P. are down picked as JH himself says ??
Papa Het is 1 and only 🤘
HOLY F***!!! I'm gonna try..... 😮😮
How much do your lessons cost? I am interested in taking some lessons with you.
what tuning you in? amazing work buddy !!
E standard 🤘
I just re learned parts of Call of Cthulhu. Still working on it though. Well done
Im sure you can nail it if you keep working on it 😉🤘
Great!!!!
dude!
Awesome! :)
Gtreat job!
Hé Karri, great video. Maybe Maybe at the end of this year? :)
Heh everything is possible with practice 😎🤘
Great playing, tight as usual. Pakko kysyä vedätkö jossain kokoonpanossa, vai omaksi huvikses vaan? On vitun tiukkaa soittamista taas.
Where have you been
Yo the man is back! Good vid as always dude, btw how many guitar tracks did you record for this? 3?
2 tracks, 100% left and right 💪
@@KarriHanninen Ah noice, I thought there was a center track as well. But with a tone like that, I guess 2 is all you need. Rock on brother!
@@shaZam9 bass is in centre, Oysten (my audio guy) isnt available right now so I didnt mix this too much 😅
I've always had trouble with my picking. I've been playing for years, but I still can't pick the strings like this.
Hey man, you can definitely do it! Send me an email to karri.hanninen@gmail.com if you want some tips :)
