ah ha....in france the warrenty is only 3 years...i think....so it's up to you if you do the first brake fluid change....sounds like it's a bit over precautionary? thoughts zoe owners?
Just been quoted £560 for 4 year service including brake fluid change with Renault main dealer! when car was bought age 2 was told servicing EV was cheap, about £85.... year 3 service needed new battery, year 4 brake fluid, year 5 is coolant...hoping that is not so expensive! Video is helpful just a shame Renault don't share all this up front.
I have been driving for just short of fifty years and have never had a brake fluid change done. Well my first cars were dreadful and I repaired them myself so they had fluid changes by virtue of wheel cylinders or calliper seals needing to be replaced. After that it was never done and has never been an issue. I have had brake pipes split and dump all fluid but that was due to rust in hidden runs of pipe, also flexible pipes bulge or fray and need replacing.
I had no idea the secondary circuit needed such extensive procedure for replacing the brake fluid. Now, I wonder if the secondary circuit has circulation back and forth to the main circuit and/or tank? If so, then by exchanging the braking fluid at the four wheels and reservoir and over time the old braking fluid in the secondary circuit will also be diluted/renewed with the new in the primary circuit. So, by exchanging the braking fluid at the four wheels and reservoir say every 2 year. The complete braking fluid system will always be in a decent fairy fresh state. What do you think?
Wow, not great to design something that is a routine service item that takes that long. I am assuming it will probably be ok to leave it five years though. It is a similar cost to a cam belt change at an independent for an ICE car. I thought I had left big service bills behind with a Zoe.
@@NicolasRaimo I had no idea it needed doing, I naively thought as EV's need minimum servicing.. I guess the renault dealer will let us know when it's due?
Interesting. I did look into the service manual at my certified Renault mechanic. They had a different procedure for not having to disconnect the traction battery needed to access the secondary bleed points. Instead using a pressure bleeding system that should be between 2.5 Bar and 3 Bar instead. That is supposed to exchange all brake fluid. And according to the documentation, it is just plain DOT4 nothing special at all.
Where is the silver square unit that s a part of the RLink system on a 2015 zoe.Have looked/Removed the glove box, but it's not behind there? Thanks in advance
My ZE40 is in to have one of its battery modules changed. Started with the red electrical warning failure which reset itself then came back 2 weeks later and reset itself. then a few days later came on and would not go away. Did the 12V battery change and found that it had been changed, by Renault, in March 2020. Had to have it recovered to Renault Enfield Who have recovered it to Wolverhampton to have a battery module swopped out.
so how does brake fluid 'fail' then - does it just deteriorate and you feel the brakes go spongy or not as effective or do you just go out one day, put your foot on the brake pedal and there is nothing there? also most of the time in a BEV your regenerative 'braking' taking your foot off the accelerator so you are hardly touching the brake pedal a lot of the time , so there must not be a case of the brake fluid getting hot or overheating to damage its properties . Then the lockout thing for the traction battery. Is there not just a 'kill switch' under a cover from inside the car you get to in the drivers foot-well after lifting up the drivers mat?
Brake fluid is hydroscopic it absorbs water from the atmosphere it’s age based rather than use based, it’s why it’s changed at 4 years not after a mileage limit.
Hi john if you check out my twitter feed I posted some which have been made but currently factory is on shutdown for a retool I suspect we should know more in September

I bet the dealer doesn’t tell you that when your buying the car. There is object lesson here most people are going to buy one of these cars new on either 3year pcp or 3/4 lease so it’s the second owner that’s got to pay for this so try to negotiate the cost of the job with the dealer when your buying the car because not only will you have that to pay for but a normal service as well. Thats expensive. So the car is not quite as cheap a car to buy as you think.

Hello! Thanks! What a great Video. I think you can post a Video showing how to deactivate and activate the nipples in the Braking System on a Renault Zoe. So that people who spend expensive money on buying an Electric car, will not have to pay expensive invoices for changing brake fluid. You have posted a Video before, where you visited a Workshop. The workshop guy then explained how it is done in a simple way, together with Clip Fault code reader. But he didn't tell you how to do it in the Program. Can you help many of us Zoe owners? Thanks! From Tommy Bertilsson from Sweden
Thanks! For nice help. But do you mean that only EV trained Workshop guys can disconnect the EV Battery on an Electric Car? Because I have Can clip. And if I can disconnect the big Battery myself, from the car, then I can Change the Brake Fluid myself on my Zoe. Thanks! From Tommy
There is a large electrical socket under the carpet at the driver's seat. It is the one you use to disconnect the battery from the car. Or have I misunderstood the whole thing? Thanks!
But in the video you have on UA-cam, where you visit a workshop, the workshop guy says that you do this job from a computer. And then you can be a couple of meters away from the car. (With Clip). If I need to open and close the nipples at the wheels, and those nipples at the servo assisted brake motor, this can't be anything dangerous, as long as I don't damage any electrical cables under the car. Thanks! From Tommy
Mick remember that brake fluid attracts moisture i'd personally not wait longer than 5 years MAX to have it done personally am happy with renaults 4 year time scale

The Zoe is very cheap for servicing compared with an ICE car. Just buy your tyres and 12v battery from a specialist tyre / battery firm not a Renault dealer.
I was told £99 by a Renault dealership and that's what I will pay them. Making up reasons for why it's a really technical job and hourly rates is no business of our's. Renault built the car, they deal with it. Any nonsense will be met with intolerance. I charge £400/hr with a minimum charge of 4 hours because i'll need to change shoes, wear different glasses and i'll need to order special driving gloves before changing shoes and they cost £400 a pair and are only available from New Zealand. They can only be delivered by hand. Sorry guv. Not a lot I can do about it. My missus charges me for every hour i'm not taking part in my own life but being scammed into ridiculous 'battery lock-out' schemes.
If they quoted you £99 sounds like same error as me where they quoted petrol car price, however most will wise up to this after seeing the time there tech spends on car. If that’s the way the job has to be done it adds to cost of labour this video was to explain to people the reasons why
@@NicolasRaimo Checked 25 Renault main dealers. Brake Fluid average cost £361. Highest £449, lowest £199. Coolant change average £328. Highest £417, lowest £89. B service average £125. isnt the lockout just a kind of switch / plug that is secured by a lock ? What a typical Renault faulty construction that it requires 45min to "pull the plug"
You can’t just rip a fuse out without causing issues yes in an emergency that’s what you do but otherwise you connect the laptop to tell the car your locking it out, then you remove fuse, then you check the car is powered down correctly and safe to work on. The health and safety required is huge pre prep and after all this takes time like putting the safety barrier and signs out to allow a safe working area
Hi Nigel the lockout takes some time to do and a man does have to stand round watching its safe, its also got an EV ramp time taken up meaning you can't service another car, then instead of your standard 4 nipples on the breaks you have the servo which then also requires the computer and to access that you need to remove a lot of the trim panels
