  • Ceratopsians are my favorite group of dinosaurs. They aren’t any different in their differences than groups like the Hadrosaurs or Pachycephalosaurs, in that they have remarkably similar bodies but extremely different noggins. However, they were better cuz they had huge heads with shearing beaks and piercing horns. Fight me. Yeah, I don’t care that there were really only like two that you could call huge. They all have their own special things going on meanie.

    I have seen that skull in the museum of evolution, last year! It was still just called Loki back then, awaiting it's official description and name. It's crazy to see a video about a fossil I have seen in person.

    It's quite possible that with such a large number of similar ceratopsian species in close proximity there was a fair amount of hybridisation. Possibly this was the cause of the asymmetric neck frill.

    • @EDGEscience
      @EDGEscience  2 місяці тому +3

      There are also an extremely large amount of asymmetry in nature, so there is no reason to favor hybridization over any other hypothesis.

      @reeyees50 2 місяці тому

      But where these species CAPABLE of hybridization? Finding this out will share a light on the variety of species. After all, some birds today are even capable of that

    • @Kurominos1
      @Kurominos1 2 місяці тому

      @@reeyees50 not evne birds ,,also many reptiles ,,fish and a lot of isnects will do that if habitats overlap
      some can do it so much that in certain parts thers almost only hybrids there

    Is there any chance science encounters a hybrid between two species of the same kind?

      Yes, of course. There's a chance of encountering any organism that has ever been on this planet. That includes hybrids. Although it will be hard to tell when we find them, if ever.

    He definitely lives up to his name, even within casts of his bones.

    I like to believe (in a fun way, not in a serious way) that this skull is Brokk and Eitrii finally getting their payment for what they made for the gods of Asguard (Loki offered his head to them if they could impress the gods, but when payment was due, Loki said they could have his neck only if they didn't damage his neck).

    Seems Unlikely, But is it POSSIBLE some of these Ceratopsians were the same species, but had significant variation from one individual to another?
    Seems just as unlikely to me (Though no expert) that small areas as described would be able to support multiple species.

    • @EDGEscience
      @EDGEscience  2 місяці тому

      It is possible! Some researchers already have posited this, just as the authors have. However, the authors think they found enough evidence to identify it as it's own genus.
      Keep in mind that modern ecosystems have MANY closely related species living together.
