I think it's just the education system. I believe that our schools in America are unfortunately American-centric. Where the rest of the world listens to music from everywhere, watches each other's shows, learns like 5 languages, etc., we stick to English and British TV, music, and movies. Sometimes, rarely, we have Spanish. And mostly in southern CA, where I live. We don't learn languages from a young age, which makes it harder. That being said, a large amount Americans are bilingual without going to school because it's a very diverse country. 12% speak Spanish! I like that.

In high school, students have the option to take foreign language courses. They can learn French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc. A lot of college majors require their students to learn foreign languages too. I'm a Global Affairs major so it's mandatory that I take foreign language classes.

I know Spanish and English fluently and just last year I began Italian. A year from now I'll try German.

Juliette VILLARD I grew up speaking both Spanish and English so when I studied French it came very easily! I found that I was able to speak and read it much better than writing.

In my country we learn French until we master it then we learn Spanish so it's basically really easy to learn. It's my 1st year in learning Spanish and I'm honestly doing really good since I've known French since I was little.

Im a Filipino and i dont speak Spanish for sure since Spanish class was scrapped in our educational system in the 60s but we sure understand a lot of spanish words and phrases. Our language incorporate a lot of Spanish words. So basically our language is a mixed both of Spanish and English nowadays.

Unlike here in the U.S we have no official language so those who are bilingual find it more easier to maintain other languages mostly Spanish since it's spoken in the U.S side by side with English in everyday living.
