I also really liked the end when the father realizes that the simulation is only one potential reality and the he (we) has a choice in shaping all future outcomes. The film is great, thank you to it's creators.
I watched this years ago and I've been searching for it ever since and FINALLY I found it again!! It's stuck with me all this time and I kept thinking of it periodically. It's still an interesting premise to me.
This video shows the love that a father has for his child. The father wants to keep his child even though she grows up to be a tyrant. He wants her even though she will cause so much pain. She is his daughter, and no matter how she turns out, he will never stop loving her.
And this is why I love film. You don't have to speak the language to understand the meaning.

cette vidéo est incroyable. Ce monde que l'on entrevoit est révoltant ! Néanmoins j'ai beaucoup d'admiration pour cet homme qui a choisi de garder sa fille et de lui laisser une chance. Je trouve ça très généreux ! 😊

even though I couldn't understand what was being said I understood the meaning. That was a beautiful short movie that showed just how strong a father's loe is
I'm English but I've retired to Thailand and bought my first PC at age 65 and discovered ESMA. What wonderful, thought provoking animations they make. This was yet another one, much better than the schmaltzy PIXAR offerings.

Je veux aller dans sa guilde ! Mais ça doit probablement être une guilde THL, ayant commencé le MMO dès sa sortie et connaissant par coeur chaque recoins et astuces.
For all the english people:
Oracle is a programm who show to the parents what their children life will be ( if they will be evil, good etc..)
After a simulation, the parents have a choice : keep or kill the baby
During M. Arkel's baby simulation, he saw that his daughter will turn evil when she will reach 20 years old, but even with the idea of his daughter becoming an "evil being" he still wanted to keep her and called her Kera
Damn good story of humanity starting out as innocent yet imaginable creators, then apparently going dark and literally raising armies for their own devices. Very well animated and thought out plot. Kinda freaky how he was given the chance to accept the child he was about to be given, or refuse it.
not everything is set in stone, maybe the dad will raise her to be better then what she will become. Oracles can be wrong at times, so perhaps he will raise her to be loving and kind, like how she was when it all started out. Wish there was subtitles though, but still it's a pretty cool story.
I dont think she was bad, i think she was fighting for nature, the soldiers were the bad guys
Jay Hdz she was commanding the soldiers, she yells for them to march forward and laughs but I am unsure of why she commands an army and what inspired it but something happened.
SpiritIncarnation the great thing about this kind of animatios are that we can give them a thousand different interpretations, may all be right or may all be wrong but thats what make them not be one dimentional in the story line.
Jay Hdz I understand that, however in the case of the army she was commanding it since I understand a little bit of french the computer says she commands an army to conquer or something along those lines, it does state she is the one leading the army.
@3:23 the computer first warns that her character becomes "evil" mal is french for evil. At the end you notice how the color for accept is red and the color for refuse is green and the reason is because accepting this baby means accepting a possibly evil person. The computer suggests refusal but asks what the parent wants and he chooses to accept despite that in the hopes to change that future and raise her right.Jay Hdz
this gave me the shivers. The idea that even one person could command an army on just a whim...
and my guess as to why the Father accepted his daughter, was because not only he wouldn't abandon his child, but also I bet that the father knew that the one thing the simulation ignored were the influence of loving parents.
I did read down the comments for a couple of pages and apologize if I'm repeating the same points made earlier by others.
I have really enjoyed the majority of these ESMA offerings... kept clicking on one after the other... but this one stood out to me in bringing my attention to how my regard for the classical 'nature vs. nurture' division had shifted for me over the years. I was on the fence in the past, but now find that I lean notably further toward 'nurture.'
In this film a distinct event occurs at ~3:57. Her simulated self's environment changes the rules on her. Just prior she was arguably still "innocent" and exploring Fake World in wonder. Then the environment's reactions to her take a dark turn... now offering her something new to 'explore.' Which she does--as she'd *been* doing. How much *actual* 'development' of her mind could possibly be going on, as opposed to being simulated by questionable algorithms? ("Precrime" etc, etc.) Scientific studies have indicated that the human mind doesn't physically (neurologically) really "grow up" until the early 20s (possibly explaining college-age misadventures).
So even given an argument that the simulation's dark-vine procedure is a Fake World Test of a possible or probable personality outcome, the findings are lacking in credibility.
It's my take that this is the message of the piece... that the Pre-Father sees that Oracle's hubris cannot possibly be any more worth a damn than astrology.
Putain mais si en faisait un film en 3d je sur qu'il serait extra le concept est original l'histoire a l'air cool et sur la fille a un donc trop classe ^^ si un jour il sort en film je le regarderais sans hésitation .

I notice some of the people here are complaining because it is in French and did not have english subtitles. People, if you can't understand it, then think. The video itself explained everything quite clear rather in French or not. If you cannot understand with your ears, understand with your mind. I'm not French either but I got the concept of the video.

Non en vrai je m'étais moi aussi fait la réflexion mais je pense que l'animation veux montrer un monde avec un fonctionnement totalement abject. (donner le droit de vie ou de mort aux parents une fois que l'enfant est né, sélectionner et surtout trier les enfants selon leur génome et donc enfin ne pas donner le droit de choisir aux femmes...)
Mais n'oublions pas qu'hélas il n'y a pas si longtemps quand il y avait un problème pendant l'accouchement et que seule l'enfant où la mère pouvait s'en sortir mais pas les deux, la femme n'était nullement informée de la situation et c'était à l'homme de choisir qui allait vivre ou non. (et cela même si la mère était parfaitement consciente, je tiens à le préciser. C'était vraiment juste qu'on estimait qu'elle n'avait pas à le savoir et encore moins à décider quoi que ce soit)
Hélas oui...

+arnaud hureaux bon heureusement que le " génome " n'est absolument pas capable de prédire ce genre de machin ;) par contre ça pourrait faire un excellent film d'animation où la jeune fille pourra prendre le choix de suivre " destin " violent ou montrer qu'on ne né pas mauvais mais qu'on le devient ?
+xalinette peut être que justement c'est en apprenant son destin que kyra va devenir violente, rappelle toi au début elle est gentils et c'est en découvrant sont pouvoir qu'elle devient violente

Quelle belle filme! Le concept est un qui addresse un question que toutes les parents veulent demander. J'aime beaucoup le style et le message.
Moi je vois les choses sous un autre angle.
Dans la description le monde est en déclin, du coup je soupçonnerai bien « Oracle » d’inventer un futur sombre pour tous les enfants afin que les parents refusent de les garder et ainsi réduire la population mondiale 🤷🏻♀️
Oui je suis une graaaande fan de dystopie et cette animation est pile dedans pour moi 👌🏼
Je fais parti des personnes qui ont réalisé Oracle à l'époque (de loin en tout cas, je me suis occupé des musiques), je ne pense pas que nous avions pensé à cette vision, mais justement, je dois avouer que je la trouve excellente et hyper cohérente !!

I believe its the job of an animator to portray thoughts and feelings with the least mental effort required of the viewer. Stories can be far more complex, but this is of course a short :)

Un film plaisant du début à la fin. La fin est surprenante.
This couldd be the start-scene of a wonderful and hearttouching animation movie ;)
From what I gather this is a naturally borne child and the outcome of her life is being displayed by this "Oracle" Company in front of her father, while her mom is in the post delivery ward. It is basically a "last chance" to Abort your Child. The Oracle depicts the outcome of her behavioral tendencies. Obviously Creativity as a child but the older you get the more Rebellious and Ambitious. I love this because the Father realizes that no matter the outcome, he won't abandon his child ever.

choisir l`avenir de son enfant je trouve sa monstrueux, voir les possibilité pour notre jeune ok, mais de la a décidé l`avenir mon nos jeune au lieu que les jeune décide de leurs avenir non merci.
le futur est une rivière, son cours change avec le temps et les obstacles.

wish they'd add some subtitles. i mean i guess i was more or less able to follow the plot, but it would be nice to know what is actually being said (speaking as someone who does not understand french). most other esma movies i have seen do have subs.

I don't know a word of French, but the main plot was clear to me. It's a concept in SF I've come across before; there was an episode of the original Twilight Zone that used it as well. This was a nice exploration of the idea.

It's not about her abilities. The machine simulates the world according to her character and intentions and shows results to her father.
Looks like a bright future to me. Think about it. In a world with a system like this in place, maybe someone with the vision, intelligence, and creativity necessary to completely overturn the system will be a good thing.
This was really great, only bad thing is there was no English subtitle. I don't speak French but I got most of it anyway. Really cute girl and then BOOM, dictator. He might be able to avoid that through.

i think the whole ORACLE idea is great.. . I mean not trying to sound evil or close minded but our population is already exceeding this planet.. it is only necessarily to find the strongest and best for our future as a whole...and before you comment this is strictly my opinion, in which i am entitled too.

Emmanuel j'ai pour habitude, dans ma tête à me comparer à Kira (la fille du film) quand j'étais petite j'étais un ange j'étais gentille sage comme une image et maintenant je suis un peu rebelle (parce que je n'ai pas eu l'image papa maman pour raisons personnelles et blablabla) et malgré tout ma mère reste avec moi elle m'encourage elle me soutient dans tous ce que je fais elle est la quand je suis triste en bref elle est géniale et je me dis que si ma mère aurait vue mon avenir au travers de cette machine et que malgré mon tôt de violences elle m'aurait acceptée même mon père qui n'est pas la pour moi m'aurais sûrement accepter je pense que on peut voir qu'une posibiliter dans cette machine on peut changer l'avenir
