  • It's easy to miss this chord in the Hendrix song "Little Wing", especially if you learned the song by studying Stevie Ray Vaughan's version.

Love the honesty. There’s so much going on when things click for you that you tend to forget the basic nomenclature. Happens to all of us. i.e. we know the major scale, but dang if i can play it but can’t recite on a whim that the pentatonic drops the 4. Good video.

Great catch! That's another reason why a well-trained ear can notice nuances or find where our interpretations of what has been played needs some refinement. It's a continuous learning process.

I'm new to your channel and had to take a quick moment and compliment you on your playing. I didn't start trying to play an instrument until 1998 after a friend passed away prematurely from Cancer in his 20s it was my buddy's wish I learned Ripple at some time in the future and play it on his Martin that he gave me under his favorite tree where his ashes were laid in Tennessee on his family's property. I eventually took lessons, learned the cowboy chords in the song, and drove from my home in Detroit and fulfilled my late friends' petition. I put the guitar up for 20 years. I didn't start playing again until about a year ago, and I'm happy to say that I understand what the caged system is now, and I actually understand the theory behind the music that I grew up on. I will never be an amazing lead player, but I can transition from Chord tones into the next chord on time. I just love the feeling it gives me. My old friend would be happy. I know this doesn't relate to any of your content in this video. your playing just made me realize how beautiful music can make a person feel, especially the mental mood. I believe playing makes me happier. I swear when I first heard you playing Little Wing S.R.V. version I couldn't believe your Tone, you nailed that Texas Sound. Do you use Texas Specials in your Stratocaster, and what about those thick strings Stevie was known for? I have a picture of him with my buddy. He had the honor of interviewing him back in the late 80s, and I couldn't believe how big that little mans hands were. I swear he had the biggest got dam hands I saw on a little dude. He even autographed the photograph. My Buddies writing a book of all the musicians he interviewed from a ficticious radio station passes he created throughout the 80's and 90's before technology stopped things like that, it sounds shady but man we met some cool bands and artists. I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you for the kind words. I have Zexcoil pickups in all my Strats, and have used them for over a decade.

that passage from Am to C to G, sounds very very good, you're completely right. It is not written in any transcription, but it sounds much better than without. Harmonically it's clear why (it becomes a V to I, rather than a VI to I). In my opinion, it should be highlighted also when soloing. Thanks a lot again

I always knew that there was a C there, but the lick from the album seemingly makes it hard to get at before the G to the sliding chords we all know. You play over it thinking you are in Am, because they are the same notes of course. Still a good nugget to throw out there and great embellishment ideas.

I forgot to mention earlier but I have no where near your guitar playing abilities in my life. However, it was decades ago when I played in a rock band during my college days where we covered many songs by the Rolling Stones, Moby Grape, Zombies, Cream, Yardbirds, Hendrix, and many others of the 60s rock scene. Over the last few years, I've pulled up some of those songs, listened again to the records, and began noticing things I (we) totally missed back then. We'd hear a song, figure it out and then use it. Now, after training my ear to look for details as little as a slide down to a note from the fret above, for example, I've seen how I had misinterpreted parts of solos, or as you discovered, overlooked a chord.
    Gotta keep learning!
