This makes me miss my crayfish.... he was very social towards me and even gently and carefull took out his treats from my fingers, and the climped on my hand so I can "play" with him by pulling him half way out of the water and back again. (when he had enough he simply jumped off) I have a new one but she is super shy I named her Houdini cause she dissapears by digigng herself into spaces that I didn't knew even excist in the tank XD I only use for plants waterweed because it grows pretty fast and when it got cut off you can simply stick it back again. Anubias are also a good pick because of the hard leafs.
Awwwww
Awww so precious
Rip🤘🤘
Can we just talk about how adorable these mini lobsters are
Yeah these little lobsters are so cute!
A couple of months ago, I bought one to feed my Oscars. He is still in the tank doing great.
What do you feed them?
@@brixsumaoang7567 What, the cray fish or the Oscars? doesn't matter I guess, the Oscars mostly get pellets. sometimes I cut up shrimp for them, but they don't seem interested in it. the crayfish eats what ever falls to the ground.
@@mikeeljahosafats3231 oh, good thing the oscars didnt bully him. my oscar bullies every fish i put
I used to keep these lil guys as pets when I was a kid. Going back into it with better equipment for sure. They sure are nice pets and calming to watch . Mine never pinched me.
Crayfish are just so insanely pretty
Loved this video! I’m looking to set up a crayfish tank later this year, and I’m so excited
Thank you for this!!
I can catch crayfish just a few feet from my house. They generally tend to be around 5-6 inches long though so too big for a normal community tank. I was thinking about setting up a tank for some Amano shrimp but I may check out some of those CPO dwarf crayfish instead.
I caught a long pincered crayfish in the creek and he's 4 years old now and very blue from the tropical flakes he scavenges he's a big bastard too. Good video thanks for the info
I’m in the process of making a native tank in New Hampshire. Letting it cycle then going out to collect some things. Crayfish will definitely be one of them.
Love the video! I had no idea that there were so many types, I just discovered they can be pets and they’ve can be blue! I’m literally losing my mind! I’m babysitting one for a friend and probably just won’t sleep and just watch him
Yo keep making vids about crayfish. Very informative and good quality.
I might lol
This was very helpful, thanks! I think I need to wait until I have more money to get my own crayfish, but oh man they are beautiful!
I never knew keeping pet fish like this was a hobby , might get into it!
Great and informative video. Thank you for the info 😊
Great video! Very informative and we'll put together. I especially liked seeing video of molten crayfish. It was cool!
Glad you liked it! It was my first ever video that involved my voice, so sorry if I sounded weird 😂
You sounded just fine. Good job!
Our blue cray climbed out of the tank, found upside down and no movement. We quickly put him in the tank and monitored him for next hours, bluey moved one tenticle 1 hr.One leg next hour, moved 1 inch bit by bit 3 hours.Recovery next few days.Going well now.We put him in another tank and closed all exits on top.Bluey has now gone on usual day and nighttime walks and likes his new tank, complete with basking ramp.lol.❤😊
Hi, do you have any more info on Cherax Pulcher and Boesmenai crayfish? I really am set on keeping those.
great looking video!
thanks :)
hi i am looking in to getting some of these i have a 30 gallon tank which will be only for the cray fish .. could i keep multiple ones in the same tank or just 1 thanks
great video quality!!
Great post. Thx. 😊
Im looking to get crayfish the florida type and this is very helpful for me thank you 😀
Crayfish are just beautiful and underrated
The crayfish at @1:43 was like gtfo.
lmaoooo
Just added a wild caught ozark banded to my endler tank
Mine keeps crawling up the side between the filter and wall do you think he would benefit from a basking platform?
My son brought home a wild river crayfish yesterday. about 2 inch long, ever so tiny but very quick. He got a tank straight away, his own river water, a cave, a branch and few stones. Was not interested in a prawn but I get they eat when they want. I'm going to leave the tank in a garden, where the natural light, temperature and even rain will help to keep natural environment. Because the river is more like a stream really, I only gave them maybe 5 inches of water above so probabbly won't need an aeratore. His name is Sven :D
youve missed the height of the water by an inch crayfishes have to be in 6 inches of water
In your opinion is it best to get them online ? And if so do you have any recommendations on where
Well you’re definitely right about the destructiveness, in Australia the most common yabby or crayfish as you call them in America is called Cherax destructor.
Maybe I will keep one
theyre very fun to keep!
yes its cute and its very cool when u have the big one
satisfying video!
Question, I have a 20 gallon tank that has plants and a filter in it and I bought one red Louisiana crawfish from a grocery store. He's been in the tank for two days and is doing ok, but spends most of his time hiding and hasn't eaten anything yet. I suspect he's just getting used to his new environment and is exhausted. He was placed in a large basket with a bunch of other Crawfish and was hosed off every few hours at the grocery store. The fish guy at the grocery store said those crayfish had been in the store (in a basket) for 5 days and who knows how long prior to reaching the store. I think he is just tired and needs to rest in his new environment. He wasn't super weak when I got him, he still tried to fight the tongs and acted alert so I don't think he's doomed. I remember the ones I caught back home and kept as pets would eat the first night I had them, but they also weren't left in a basket with 100s of other Crawfish for days and days. Any ideas about how long I'll have to wait for him to become active again or things I can do to help him?
Very cool, thinking of getting one!
You totally should!! Theyre really calming pets and honestly, I much prefer them over any other aquatic pets!!
@@AtomicQBomb I did! I got an electric blue one and I love him
im very glad!
I love crayfish I started caring for them a month ago with my first being a blue brazos but he died while molting now I have a young cherax pulcher, in a 20 gallon 30 inches long 13 in wide and 12 in long, up to how many fish can I put, I currently have 2 black mollies, they don’t mind the crayfish and when I come up they swim towards him I guess for protection?, the crayfish doesn’t mind either but if they touch him he will try to grab them but he hasn’t so far
i got a few dwarves and today i got a blue one. the blue one immediatly made known what his home would be and every so often one of the dwarves peeks in just to be scared away by a much bigger blue boi. really curious how this will end up but i have a good feeling about it as there are plenty of spots the blue boi cant reach
How many crawfish can you keep in a single tank? And I know you said 15 gallon tank but would a 10 work too?
I saw some orange crayfish in a nearby river so I'm planning on going back to catch one.
you should :)
Best video!
Do crayfish mate in captivity? How many can live together safely? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I used to catch them in the lake behind my house but I would release them soon after. I’m thinking about getting some for the house. I live in south Florida. Also if you know of any good places to buy them in my area that would help also. I really like the blue ones. They are fascinating creatures. I really enjoyed your video. Thanks
Can they be kept in a pond with goldfish? And what size tank would you recommend for multiple? Like two or three?
Hmmm they can, but either the goldfish or the crayfish will eat the other.
Thx for a crayfish vid
i have had many crayfish, not much luck with them though. 2 of mine died for an unknow reason, 1 died because he had internal parasites and i had no clue, my 4th one passed because he got stuck in a molt which was odd because my parameters are damn near perfect and he got plenty of minerals and other yummy food. im going to assume that since he had internal parasites from a petco ghost shrimp he ate that it took a toll on his energy even after being treated. i've had the procambarus clarkii species. im thinking of getting a cherax species just to change it up. it still a bummer i paid 50 bucks for a ghost variant of procambarus clarkii and he passed due to a failed molt
I have a 45 gallon bow tank I'm wanting to convert into an electric blue crayfish tank (he will be the feature of the tank). Should I use sand or gravel? Would you have a planted tank or non-planted? driftwood or rock/plastic caves? I'm guessing with a 45 gallon bow, he would be better as a solo crayfish. What friends would be best to go with him? We do have one red tailed shark we'd like to put in and add other fish. Thank you SO much in advance for your help. I really want to make this successful. I'm familiar with water parameters, etc. as I've kept fish for many years.. just never crayfish.
Sorry I’m late. A red tail shark will get killed by a crayfish. An unplanted sand aquarium would be best.
Would it be possible to have 1 florida clayfish and 1 cherax pulser clayflish in a 180 liter tank?
Im getting ready to get a crayfish. I have 29 gallon and I plan on getting a procrambarus. Any good tips?
I have a 15 gallon tall tank. Do you think that would be ok for them? Or do they really need that horizontal walking space?
15 gallons is fine for one cray :)
Thanks a lot!!!
My adult crayfish seems to lost interest eating pallet i dropped in for them. How is it so??
Man it's been years since I had a crayfish. When I was a kid I caught one from the wild and named it Cookie haha. I shall be a new starter to this hobby I'm hoping to get a blue crayfish or one that is red and white. Also...are shrimp okay with them or they just loners?
Hi, I'm considering keeping a Signal Crayfish to learn it's behaviours, see how big I can grow it and a number of other reasons. Could you offer any advice? Are there anything I need to consider specific to Signals?
Thanks in advance
Im glad you asked! I've taken care of signal more than any other crayfish.
Signal crayfish grow very large if kept healthy and in a large enough tank (upwards of 8 inches if i remember correctly) so you will need to be very careful will what fish you put in there if any! They crayfish will also need a decently large tank depending on how long you are planing on keeping it for.
@@AtomicQBomb as long as I can really. The plan is to have a Cray in his own tank and maybe a female if I keep the tank indoors. So it would be a tank specifically for Crays so any advice would be appreciated
one crayfish would need 15 to 20 gallons, but two would need at leat 40 (they are very territorial!)
Does this work on a wild crawfish
I have a 15 gallon tall corner tank and was thinking of turning it into a crayfish tank could I keep 2 or 3 in that size I am 4 years into the fish hobby so pretty good about water changes and testing all that good stuff , also do they fight with each other if you get different colored ones ?
In a space that small, the crayfish will absolutely fight. I would recommend getting either a much larger tank, or purchasing CPO crayfish (which are much smaller)
@@AtomicQBomb thank you I just was looking into ideas I don’t want to hurt no fishy’s !!!!! Would one be ok in the tank I was thinking of using drift wood and rocks to form a tall “tree” like object for lots of hiding and exploring
@@AtomicQBomb or do they need the ground space to explore
Would you recommend crayfish as someone's first aquatic pet? Also, do crayfish need a calcium source (other then recycling there old molt) such as cuttel bone? :)
sure! and they might need extra calcium if its not already present in their diet. Good luck!
Thank you!
Just picket up a blue one from pet shop it was dumped over night this video was so so helpful thank u
No problem, glad I could help :)
Can 1 or 2 crayfish be kept in a 10 gallon tank? Will they outgrow too fast? Or keep to the size of their environment
They would hurt eachother, they will need more space! Unless you have CPOs or very tiny crayfish.
I just went to my local creek and boom, new pets
Lucky u dont think any in UK
Rel ,and friends love him too, they still wave to him and enquire how hes going.lol❤😊
I just wanted to know how much or how deep of water in the bank for crayfish? Some farmer told me use sallow water for crayfish. 😩😩 how high or how low?
Is there any places I could buy a few online? The pet stores near me don't have much.
Hey say if I went to a river where my dad says there it crayfish in (this river it in thatcher, AZ) and then get the river water and river dirt. Grab a big plastic tub fill the water up a little bit to where my crayfish could come out of the water and breath or stay in the water and breath without an oxygen pump. And then bring it down to pretty (or very) hot Goodyear, AZ would that work?
My comment is a bit late to the party but I’ll try anyway!
I was looking into getting a pet crayfish, and once I move out and get a bigger tank for my ryukin I am left with a 60 litre tank. That’s why I was wondering if it is okay to keep a crayfish in a 60 litre tank (thats about 15,85 gallons)
I saw online that a Mexican dwarf crayfish are good to go, however I’d like for it to thrive rather then just survive so I was wondering if the tank is big enough (I won’t be planning on getting tank mates then)
A Mexican dwarf crayfish would certainly thrive in 15 gallons, but anything larger wouldn’t do to well. Hope that helps!
I’m getting a crayfish, I just wanted to know . I have one ghost shrimp and two goldfish. Would they wor, good together? I also have gravel in my tank so should I switch to sand?
Either the goldfish will eat the crayfish, or vice versa. Theyre both aggresive omnivores. As for the shrimp, its 50/50 really.
Substrate is fine as gravel, sand is best but gravel is fine too.
The juveniles almost look like dwarf shrimp. That’s pretty cool
thanks so much
do you know if i could get any dwarf crays in new jersey? i would love to fill my 100 gallon with a ton of those colorful dwarfs and some shrimp
I recently bought 3 neon red crayfish. Im really confused about the water level. Some sources say it's better for the crayfish to be able to climb above the surface. Others say you dont need to. I have an oxygenator. Should i still go forward with the half land/half water set up?
they do not need to get out of the water.
Can you keep more than one crayfish/lobster in the same tank? If so how big do you think the tank should be?
you can, but you will need AT LEAST 40 gallons to keep them safe, but even then they might harm eachother
First video that i saw that makes sense
I have a blue crawfish with red rocks. It really makes my living room better.
sounds beautiful! whats its name?
@@AtomicQBomb Well I let my niece name him.... its, "Sir Siry Sir".
awwww
Can crayfish such as the white clarki and gohst clarki live with african ciclides? if not, why not? Hope you can telk me more about it.
NO they unfortunately cannot!! Cichlids will KILL your crayfish as they naturally hunt crayfish, plus the crayfish May attack the cichlids as well.
If you need to supply more calcium, would a cuttlebone suffice? I had hermit crabs, but they tended to ignore it.
That should work :)
That cray in the last clip appears to be in a special molting tank? Is this beneficial?
How often do I feed them? Every day?
Interested in my first crayfish tank just wondering if I need to have an area for them above water
you dont, but they do sometimes like it. So long as you have sufficient water circulation/O2 levels, you wont need it :)
@@AtomicQBomb Thanks for the info love the channel
I'd love to have a crayfish in my fish tank but if it's going to kill my fish then no chance! Great video. Watching your video has made me decide that I can't keep one. What about freshwater crabs. Do they kill fish?
How often do you feed them??
cool vid
thanks :)
I have had 2 orange dwarf crayfish and i have snails they all ignore eachother. So maybe the bigger ones kill the snails? Mine didn't though it would walk on their shells for fun lol
Thank u for the uselfull infos in this video.
I have a 500 lt aquarium that i would like to house for some crayfish. I have some questions and many doubts. How many crayfishes can i put in 500lt ? Are they going to live with a Caridina Shrimp colony? I have aswell a big kissing gurami that I would like to add in this aquarium. I think is not a problem.. I dont think guramis and crayfishes can kill eachother..but.... is it dangerous for the gourami when he is sleeping lying on the substrate?
500 litres hmm… you would probably be okay with shrimp and crayfish, make sure to look up the water parameters to ensure they work together. As for the gourami, it might be fine for a while, but I believe they will probably be killed by one of the crayfish. Best of luck!!
@@AtomicQBomb thank you for a so fast answer. One more .. how many crayfish in 500lt? can fit 3 or 4?
@@domeah oh 4 would be just fine, the only thing you need to worry about for amount of crayfish is the area at the bottom of the tank, but in a 500 litre there should be more than enough space for 4. Make sure to put plenty of hiding spaces!
my crayfish molted last night, how long should I keep the shell in the tank?
Yes! The shells NEED to stay there! Your crayfish will eat its old shell to regain the nutrients.
Can I put one with a American bullfrog?
can you house 2 difrent types of crayfish same tank ?
I'm going to get one they seem cool and I met one and there pretty chill
I did half a years worth of research on electric blues but I tried twice recently and they all ended up dying did I need a heater?
What are your water parameters?
@@AtomicQBomb I have no idea I had them about a year ago and have completely forgot but I know I got them In winter and i live in ny so do you think they froze?
also, which are better, wild ones or could i buy one from a store
Store ones are generally better because they won’t have diseases :)
My crawfish has been in the same tank with a mystery snail for almost a year, no issues.
Hey I got a crayfish i was wondering if it’s okay if I take it out the tank once in a while and play with it?
I wouldn't recommend it, BUT if you are very careful and you research the dangers that dust poses to crayfish, you might be able to. If you do, you should put it on a dry towel next to a shower that is running (NOT IN THE SHOWER!) so that the steam from the shower will remove dust from the air and help keep the crayfish calm. You can gently touch the crayfish, but be very careful not to touch it too much or too roughly. A good way to keep it happy is to feed it while it is walking around the towel.
@@AtomicQBomb ohhh okay thanks for getting back to me!
Where can you sell your bred crayfish?
Hello there, is Cherax destructor same with P. alleni?
Are you asking if they are the same species? No they are not
@@AtomicQBomb, so there is a blue crayfish-P. alleni and a blue crayfish-Cherax destructor?😅
(Pardon me for asking naive questions😅 haha, newbie here, it's been more than three weeks, I've been taking care my two crayfish, one's red & the other blue. I've been skimming through google & UA-cam to know more about these particular crayfish and stuff😁.)
Can you keep one crayfish in one tank? Or do they need to be keep in pair/communal?
they can be kept alone. you can keep them together, but make sure they have plenty of space and food.
Would a 20 gallon tank work for a blue cray fish if it is the only thing in the tank?
totally!
Is it dangerous to get crawfish from local ponds and stuff? I was always told they could have parasites.
They can, but it’s fine so long as they won’t be with other crayfish. If you’re planning on eating them, then yes parasites could be dangerous. I’m not sure, but I heard boiling them will kill every parasite.
I would love to have a crayfish only tank. Can you keep two of them together? What about different species? I have a 20gal
crayfish are very territorial and so will attack each other. 1 will be the safest bet for a 20g
Exactly. Two of the same species MIGHT work in a 40 gal, but two of different species will never work.
@@AtomicQBomb What species would be best for a 20gal?
Nice video! How do you think a Betta would fair with a Crayfish in a 40 Gallon tank?
that betta would unfortunately get shredded apart... crayfish do not work well with long finned fish, and bettas are notoriously slow and have very long fins!!! Maybe try a gourami instead?
What type of substrate do you recommend
i originally used rock, but if i were to do it again i would use sand because crayfish are messy eaters and the sand will keep the food at the top :)
Thank you boss❤️
i have a question. Can i keep a dwarf crayfish in a 5.8L tank made of plastic??
After having him for 2 months, my blue crayfish is rejecting his frozen bloodworms & sinking wafers. What should I feed him instead?
raw meat of almost any kind would be fine. i would recommend raw fish or other "sea food" type meat. also, raw veggies - peas, carrots, corn, etc. canned veggies work too as long as there are no spices or seasonings added. if salt is added, just rinse it in clean water before feeding it to the crayfish.
Not sure if you'll respond or not but what is the recommended amount of meal worms I can feed one? And how often should I rotate from worms to vegetables?
I would recommend feeding the crayfish as much as it can eat in 3 minutes two to three times a day :)
If you only have worms and veggies, then it depends on it’s age. A baby should eat mostly meat whereas an adult should eat mostly veggies.
@@AtomicQBomb alright. It's an adult right now and I noticed the water was getting dirty after every week and didn't want to continuously clean it when I have a water filter. I'll shift its diet to more vegetables
Can someone send me the discord invite link for the crustacean please it is being weird and won’t let me join
I have a white one I just got today! I wanted to know if I should get him a buddy or not because I felt bad about him being the only one so far 😂
he will be fine by himself.
