I started watching Double Dare episodes because I love the 70s game show set, but keep watching because the format is interesting and the game play is entertaining.
I never knew the toilet inventor's name was Thomas Crapper; thanks, Alex, and Rest in Power! I'm sure you and he are swapping all kinds of stories on the other side!
I'm going to be honest, even if the judges didn't screw *Roger Hep* over, *Chuck Loeb* would have still beaten him with the *Toilet* since clue #3 probably would have been that circus lady, and Chuck would have given that to Roger for sure. And even if Roger (somehow) defeated Chuck, Roger would have gone up against the MACHINE known as *Alan Lusher* next...
Chuck Logue, who was a contestant on a few episodes of the CBS game show Double Dare in 1976, was also a contestant on Blockbusters in January of 1982.
They could've given that to Roger, he said "George, and then "Man-" then the buzzer came! As long as his entire answer was in progress, he could've gotten the point. I slowed it down at the 0.5x, he said Man- first.
Alex has even said the show might have been "too cerebral" for daytime. It lasted 26 weeks, so with shows being up for renewal after 13 weeks, this one might have gotten a reprieve, but not enough viewers were biting.
Oh don't remember this show, but I think most recognize that song from "Card Sharks" on NBC from 1978-1981 and I know the host from "Jeopardy!" I know this was a failed "Jeopardy!" wannabe with a title that would belong to a Nickelodeon show that started in the mid-80s.
How was it a Jeopardy wannabe? Besides giving clues to an answer, the gameplay is very different. And Alex Trebek didn't start hosting Jeopardy until 1984, several years after this show ended.
Alan (Al) Lusher appeared on Jeopardy! in 1985. Amongst his competition was Tic Tac Dough contestant Mark Leinwand. Alan's nervous mannerisms and trembling voice were also quite evident on Jeopardy!, as he tended to jerk himself forward everytime he attempted to buzz in, locking himself out in the process. (The buzzers will not work until a light goes on inside their podiums). Appearance-wise, Alan hadn't changed much, his hair was just grayer. Unfortunately, Alan's Jeopardy! experience was much less successful. In fact, Alan was one of the few victims of forgetting to phrase the Final Jeopardy! answer in the form of a question, which was a very costly and embarassing mistake.
Since many game shows are coming back, here's how I imagine a Double Dare reboot. 1. Rename to something else to avoid confusion with the Nickelodeon game show, whose name is more associated with it rather than the Alex Trebek show. Given how the game revolves around challenging three experts called "Spoilers", I would suggest a more relatable name like "Spoiler Alert" 2. Have a fun host as Alex is sticking to Jeopardy without looking back. My suggestion is someone like Jason Silva (former Brain Games host). 3. Give out an upgrade to the setting, music and even sound effects as it's a bit dated and even goofy though, not too flashy. Especially since the Double Dare theme is the same as Card Sharks, a show that got rebooted, theme and all, it makes sense.
@West Coast Emerald Bull I would hardly call the setting, music, and sound effects dated. Most of the classic game shows that ABC has revived recently have kept the original sound effects, music, and setting in some form, and most of those shows have had good ratings. Same goes for The Price is Right on CBS, which has kept things pretty traditional for the most part (aside from Mike Richards' removal of Roger Dobkowitz, Brandi Sherwood Cochran, and Rich Fields, of course), and still gets the highest ratings in its time slot.
I think Brad Rutter would be a better host for the reboot because of his victory of Jeopardy's Million Dollar Masters, Ultimate Tournament of Champions, and All-Star Game. Though it might be difficult if he left The Chase. I still hope James Holzhauer will still remain as The High Roller on The Chase itself. Another reason that I want Brad Rutter to host the reboot is because that I'm hoping that Ken Jennings will become the permanent host for Jeopardy sometime soon.
I don't think a reboot of this version can be possible unless they change the name since most people are familiar with the Nickelodeon show with Mark Summers and speaking of reboots, that show got rebooted twice. once in 2000 and the last reboot didn't last long had a new host but Mark Summers was doing the announcing role. I heard if Nickelodeon decides to do another reboot. Mark Summers would not indolent and said he was pretty much done with Nickelodeon Double Dare.
1. Gloria Steinem wrote the foreword to an anthology of her adventures. 3. Her creator, William Moulton Marston, also invented the polygraph. 5. Her secret identity is Diana Prince. 8. She was adopted by the Women's Lib Movement as an early manifestation of their philosophy.
So where are the physical challenges and pie machine? I was expecting a precursor to that wonderful 90s NICK show with Marc Summers.... How did, wait... CBS still had rights to the name when NICK made the show?
Amanda Blakeley That's an entirety different concept in a different time for a different demographic. Mind you, this was 1976-77; 9 years before Nickelodeon developed that version.
The one common denominator was that the theme music was composed by Edd Kalehoff for both versions, though this version was credited as "Score Productions" (as was Perry's Card Sharks).
I agree! Double Dare should come back in the Covid-19 era, and the spoilers would still be PhD's and if you beat them, it'll be worth $10,000, adding $1,000 to the jackpot until you defeat the spoilers! And if we have a new champion, then the jackpot will reset at $10,000; and instead of CBS, it should be on ABC on the weeknights right after Wheel Of Fortune!
It would need a new name, unless you can figure out how to pry it from Nickelodeon. Also, Wheel of Fortune is SYNDICATED! Do you even know your networks!?!
This show is perfect to bring back in the COVID-19 era.
I wonder if it'll have a reboot on ABC featuring Brad Rutter as the host. My fingers are crossed for that! 🤞🏻
@@mackenziewachter2508 The reworked theme music is available now that McHale Card Sharks has been cancelled
@@MrMatteNWk Hopefully it'll be worth it.

Chuck the contestant is a Jack Narz lookalike. Jack Narz which was hosting Concentration produced by Mark Goodson-Bill Todman.
Rest in Peace Mr Alex Trebek.
A legend who enjoyed his work on entertaining the world until the very end rest in peace Alex . 🙏💐💖🙏 The real winner of Jeopardy is Alex trebek.
WHOA! Alex Trebek looked so different back in the 70s. Only his voice could remind me it's him.
darthstarkiller1912 He basically looked like that thru both "High Rollers" years 1974-76 & 1978-80 and both "Battlestars" versions 1981-1983
Awwe, he was just a baby back then!
He looks a lot like Gabe Kaplan to me. Well, with that fro and mustache he does.
It also reminds me that this isn't Card Sharks with Jim Perry.
Also with ``Pitfall'' 1981-1982.
I never knew the toilet inventor's name was Thomas Crapper; thanks, Alex, and Rest in Power! I'm sure you and he are swapping all kinds of stories on the other side!
The toilet got it’s Nick name “the crapper” by American GI’s in England who saw it’s inventors name on the back of the toilet.
The *originsl* flush toilet was invented by Sir John Harrington in the 1600s... and no joke. Is my 11th great grandfather.
It was Rhodes.
he did get maddox out before the buzzer. slowed the video down to 0.25 speed and he got mad out before the buzzer and kept going.
I'm going to be honest, even if the judges didn't screw *Roger Hep* over, *Chuck Loeb* would have still beaten him with the *Toilet* since clue #3 probably would have been that circus lady, and Chuck would have given that to Roger for sure.

I know all the deceased inventors are telling Alex Trebek thank you for being their clues on Jeopardy
@Eric Samuelson(open): I'm sure they have many stories to tell together...
I want that red and green carpet in my house.
Glad Chuck was able to win at least one bonus round before getting thrown under the Alan Lusher freight train.
Chuck Logue, who was a contestant on a few episodes of the CBS game show Double Dare in 1976, was also a contestant on Blockbusters in January of 1982.
Nice video. The opening theme was like Card Sharks.
This was BEFORE Card Sharks.
IIRC our CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh KDKA-TV preempted this show in favor of The Young and the Restless, which then aired on the network at noon.
Rebel owners. Which is why I prefer my affiliates owned by the motherships themselves.
I sure wish Buzzr would bring back this show
If you have Amazon Prime Video, you can catch this on demand.
I wish they had a reboot on ABC featuring Brad Rutter as the host.
They could've given that to Roger, he said "George, and then "Man-" then the buzzer came! As long as his entire answer was in progress, he could've gotten the point. I slowed it down at the 0.5x, he said Man- first.
But the correct answer was Maddox, NOT Mannix
Fitting time when I’m watching this
This show would be good to watch high.
Double Dare, not to be confused with the kids game show hosted by Marc Summers.
I'll take the physical challenge! Oh, wait...
@@Megacooltommydee I wonder if these contestants get Green Slime shampoo.
Alex Trebek hosted this CBS game show, before hosted another CBS Show "Jeopardy!".
I had to do a double take when I read that Alex Trebek hosted Double Dare in addition to Jeopardy and Classic Concentration. Neat show in any case!!
@@cammy85 He also hosted "High Rollers" and "The Wizard of Odds"
The one in the middle is still alive, a professor at Columbia University.
At approximately 23:50, the multiple buzzers were similar to those used on TPIR for the one bid if all contestants overbid.
You mean, 20:50
It's from the same production company
The announcer sounds like the announcer from the old Price is Right show!
It is. Johnny Olsen
FOREVER IN MY HEART ALEX TREBEK,
I like the final it’s good
I think this is an original incantation.
This was actually quite a good show; I think the format might have been a little too complex, plus it would be hard to play along at home.
I like to use my hand to cover the right answer and then repeat the clues when they appear on the board.
Eric Nelson It was, it should have stayed on a tad longer.

Don't forget the early 1990s version of To Tell The Truth toward the end of that run.
Alan Lusher went on to be the only champion to retire undefeated from this show
Johnny Olsen.
4:33 is one where I would have needed help to make the decision.
Play it back in slo mo .25x
The buzzer did cut Roger off but not by much.
@@trevorpanno516 Even if he did get it in time his guess was still be wrong one way or the other
Roger was in the right part of the country when he said George Wallace.

Kinda ironic.

9:52...IF THAT CLUE HAD GOTTEN SEEN ON THE DISPLAY....WHOA! But you know on another show Alex did...Battlestars, that subject came up.
Would having both contestants being able to face one another (as long as their booths are open) be an improvement for a potential reboot of this show?
I feel like that would change how quickly the buzzer would be hit, as well as how much the dare would mean

Yes, it's the same, it was more fitting for Card Sharks, 78-81
