    I've used my Cricut machine on several past projects. It may not be the most common tool in the shop, but it's definitely great to have for customizing and personalizing projects both big and small.
    So in this video, I wanted to take the opportunity to explain a little more about it, demonstrate some examples of how to use it and hopefully get your wheels turning on ways you might could use one in your own shop.
    If you've been on the fence about picking up a Cricut for your shop, hopefully this video will help you decide one way or the other if it's right for you.

    You’ve finally done it! Given me a project that my wife can’t run from me on, so we have to work together! All I have to say is something like…”But you don’t want me to mess up your cricut, do you?!”
    Love them all, especially the “Hot Mess Express”!!

    I also use my Cricut for making patterns to use on my scroll saw. I cut them in a thick card stock or paper. Makes it a lot easier than having to cut by hand.
    Love you ideas for using the Cricut and wood projects. 🙂

      It really does open up so many doors! I don’t have a maker but I have a Joy and with a little creativity and patience, I find you can do MOST anything you need with the Joy. The bigger machine is nice to have for those wider cuts, though haha. Happy making! 🙌

    I don’t know if it works on the explorer, but on the maker you you can buy a bit to cut thin pieces of wood. It does a really good job. I use it instead of the CNC sometimes if it’s a small project. Would be great for the pumpkin project you did if someone doesn’t have a jigsaw or bandsaw.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Рік тому +2

      That’s a great point-you can do that in the maker, but the explore doesn’t cut wood. That’s an advantage to the maker vs the explore

    Well Shara, you've certainly have us inspired! You have my wheels turning now. Sending a link to my Wife for her review. If her wheels get turning we could have a Cricket soon. The mid day temps relegate my time in the shop to early morning or evenings, so it would be great to do the design work inside while waiting for it to cool down. Same goes for winter limitations. Love your creativity. Thanks for Sharing!

    Great explanatory video on the Cricket! There must literally be thousands of uses for one of these! Help me understand one thing, lol…. I guess I’m old and out of date, but what is a “Hot Mess”? Lol…. I’ve heard you use that term a couple times in earlier videos. But never thought about what it might mean. Have a great weekend Shara and keep on building!

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Рік тому +1

      Definitely thousands of ways to use it! It’s pretty handy to have around for all sorts of things.
      Haha I don’t have an exact definition of a “hot mess” but basically it just means “mess” but more exaggerated. So I’m a mess, basically. The “hot” just makes it sound more messy than just “mess” alone.
      I hope you have a great weekend as well! Im working on (hopefully) next weeks project as we speak!

    What’d you frame that artwork piece with, @ beginning? The raw wood trim. Looks bigger than 1”x2” & that’s nlunthing I know to use but always looking for something bit smaller yet not curvy at all.

    Hi Shara! Was wondering which package you would recommmend for someone who is just getting started with the cricut. I have a cricut, but it is the one that first came out, so I am sure it won't even come close to performing the tasks that the Cricut Exporer 3 does so need direction of what to get to start out. Thanks! By the way, I love your channel and all of your plans! Bev

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Рік тому +1

      Hi! Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m not a Cricut expert. I love mine and use it occasionally for things like this, but not daily. So I’m not sure I’d give the best advice and honestly, which one to get really depends on how much you use it and what types of projects you’re planning to make with it. I used the Joy for a while before upgrading to the explore. The Joy is a great little machine for writing and cutting, but it’ll only cut up to about 4 1/2” wide. So if you plan to make big stuff, I’d definitely recommend going with at least the explore. The maker is kind of the “top of the line” with tons of extra features and ability to cut other materials (like wood veneer, which is super cool). I’d recommend browsing the website and checking out each machines features and see which ones you think you’d really use and decide based on that.

Your plans have really helped me with my confidence in building! Bev

    Use make-up foam sponge wedges for paint, very inexpensive. I've never tried with stain, but, I think it'll work the same to avoid leaks.

    In the first one, if paint was used instead of stain, you could spray the board with shellac, and the paint would not run.

    Does your creativity have any limits? I hope not! If you added a 3D printer, a CNC router, and a laser etcher, to your shop, you would be absolutely unstoppable. It looks like you might have purchased the Cricut Explorer 3 bundle. The website shows that it costs $500 for all that. Would you be willing to share how much you have into all that you show in the video?
