The C40 was my first guitar-I've had, lost, and given away many guitars but I still have it and use it mainly even though it now has so many cracks, dings, scratches, it has been drenched in sweat, blood, and beer, and tears, and it doesn't sound as superb as it once did-I've had it for nearly two decades now! I've taken it to mountains, beaches, forests, jungles, rivers, deserts, and other countries; I've written on it, painted on it, repainted it, had sex because of it; and though all in all it wasn't a lot, I earned from it; it doesn't stay in tune for very long now, and it even has this big crack on the neck that sometimes causes me to worry that it might snap and break in two while playing it. The kid who once sang Christian songs on Sundays and played Zeppelin on weekdays went to music school, dropped out, fell in love, went to film school, fell deep at the bottom of every bottle, ashtray; popped, smoked, chewed, sucked, and snorted everything you could get your hands on in the hallways of an art school. From classical music to rock and roll to folk to...whatever sad, gay music I listen to today, I lost my voice so many times, changed my style so many times, I chased the woman of my dreams and I lost the music for a while-the guitar did time in the closet for a while....it has been touched by so many hands, I can't even count, but still-it plays so fucking good each time I pick it up. So, yeah, I'll never buy another one. You buy a C40 once and you're set for life. This was not an endorsement, I swear-I'm just a little bit inebriated and nostalgic.

I have sensitive skin so I do not want to go with acoustic guitar and its steel strings and I saw in this video that C40 would be great. Maybe I will still go to acoustic guitar F310 like I see on your wall but I will definitely start with C40 and I thank you for that. Also there is official Yamaha shop in my town, Tbilisi, Georgia so I can go and physically tough the guitar before buying it which is great. Thank you so much! Good luck!

Nylon string guitar is at its best when played with finger-style classical technique. The music you want to play doesn't have to be classical. There are many pop music arranged effectively for classical style playing, e.g. Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley), Michelle, Yesterday (many other Beatles), Street of London (McTell), Fly Me to the Moon, House of the Rising Sun, Take Five, Autumn Leaves, Misty, Melodia de uma noite, Manha de Carnaval, etc. They all sound very beautifully on nylon string guitars played with classical technique. They are all within Grade 6 level. Many jazz compositions have been arranged for this technique as well. Bossa Nova and Rumba grow in the classical guitar environment. Another good reason for buying C40 is not just because it is cheap, but because it is well made and sounds very sweet. It is easily tuned and has consistent intonation and tone color. Therefore, it is easy and enjoyable to play as it sings well. Well balanced between bass and treble. It is not loud, so it is suitable for playing at home, especially at night. Yamaha makes their expensive and cheap ranges the same way.
Hint: If you string C40 with Aquila Sugar, it sounds like a thousand-dollar guitar.

This is for anyone who is trying to compare to other guitars. About a month ago i got into flamenco spanish music and i just fell in love with it. Since then i wanted to buy a flamenco guitar but with research you find out that they cost about €400 plus for a cheapest flamenco guitar. Then you find out that its not all lost and that classical guitars can play flamenco. And so i researched for hours all types of classical guitars ranging from a cheap aria for €100 to the €200 yamaha c80. Yes ive researched all types and variations of classical guitars between that price range and let me tell you that there are alot. At the start i over looked the yamaha c40 and went for the yamaha c80. I think it just got over shadowed by the newer version. Then when i was ready to get the c80 i just wanted to make sure before spending so much money on a guitar and kept listening for hours the sounds of these guitars and i came across c40 vs c80 video and the conclusion is this, i dont think youll get a good flamenco sound on the c80. It sounds lighter, almost like an acoustic guitar. The deep sound of the c40 just sounds much better to my ears for flamenco and spanish styles. With hours of research the conclusion is get a c40. All other variations of classical guitars below €200 will disappoint you. Dont waste time, my yamaha c40 is coming tomorrow! Buy d'addario EJ45 normal tension strings with them. For the price of €150 you will have a good guitar with good strings you can learn on. In the future if you want then dish out another €500 for a good flamenco guitar then go for it, but the yamaha c40 will give you a good sound, possibly better than some dearer guitars that cost around the price of €400. Tis be my conclusion with many time spent on research, get a yamaha c40.

@@lemmetellusum4884 Yes, what i wrote is just the case if youre on low budget. Out of all classical guitars c40 under the price 200 is no doubt the best. BUT, dont expect it to play like a 500 guitar. There are even more options with the price range from 200-500 and its hard to find something that will suit your tastes. For example people say the Cordoba c3 and c5 are good but thats because they are sponsored and are paid to make the video saying theyre good. But something like an alahambra 3c sounds so much better than the 2. Its just personal preference at the point of 300-500 guitars price range. There are many good options but you must first like the sound of the guitar or you will stop playing and wont be motivated.

I’ve been considering buying this guitar for a while, and stumbled upon this video while looking for reviews. All I’ve heard is positive things, which is great! I’m from Portugal and here we have these musical groups formed by students in university, where we play a more traditional type of music. Used to be a way for students to make money, but now it’s just for fun and to keep traditions alive! I’ve been a part of one of these groups since May and I play classical guitar with them. I’ve always been an acoustic player but for the past few months I’ve absolutely loved playing classical. So I wanted to buy one of my own, to practice at home and such! Thanks for this review, it certainly helped me solidify my opinion on the C40 😄

I have the Yamaha C40 and the Yamaha C80. They are good classical guitars for beginners and intermediate players and belong to Yamaha's basic range. They have a laminated spruce soundboard, which reduces the sound and projection of the guitar, although the sound is acceptable in relation to quality and price. I think the C80 should have a solid top, but even though it is laminated, it offers an acceptable sound. To find Yamaha guitars with a solid top you have to go at least to the Yamaha CG122MC guitar, with a solid cedar top and Nato wood back and sides. In any case, both the C40 and C80 are comfortable to play and have good construction. With good strings, they gain more sound and are very enjoyable.
You can find the Alhambra Z Nature guitar for a little more money.
    Solid cedar top
    Sapele back and sides
    Rosewood neck
    Samanguila wood fingerboard
Matte finish on the entire guitar
    Made in Spain Kind regards

I like sound of metal strings. Can you put it on this guitar to hear how it sounds? I started to play guitar again after a very big pause of 30 yrs ago. I'm 59 now and play very cheap guitar at my home ( € 50, Chinese product, not good). How much costs this Yamaha C40 Mkll ? I'm a social case and have 800,00 Croatian kuna per month, it's a little bit more than € 100. I like music, playing a guitar is my very good therapy cos I have anxiety- depression desorder almost 32 yrs ago. Pls, answer me ! Thank you!

    Hi thanks for the video!
I have a question on not having nails and classical guitar. It appears you have no nail playing technique but I'm not sure. What classical guitar and strings would you recommend for no nails classical guitar? I tried playing before and couldn't get any volume out of the strings compared to a cheap steel string.
Please let me know your thoughts and opinion. Thank you!
    I'll sub now 😁

    • @5MinuteMusic
      @5MinuteMusic  4 роки тому +1

Thank you for subbing! I usually do not use my nails. The corner of my nails may brush the strings but I do not try to use my nails.
The Yamaha C40 can get pretty loud, but metal string guitars will usually be louder because of the tension on the strings and the materials.
If you do want a nylon string guitar, the C40 is an EXCELLENT guitar for the price.
      I hope that helps.

The Yamaha C40II uses meranti wood while the Yamaha C40 uses mehagony (according to Amazon, as of today).
I love the warmth of mahagony, but I have not heard one of the meranti guitars.
I would try to find some recordings and compare.
