Lee can't be equaied. She was a huge star in the 20ties. Sold the most records of the decade. Her band members were the top musicians. The Dorsies, Harry Reiser, Bennie Goodman, John Cali etc.
Thank you so much for this wonderful assemblage of Lee Morse photos. I consider her one of the finest American singers: she had a way with a mournful lyric that few can rival.
Once I had a 78 with Lee Morse singing "Swinging on a Hammock". Her voice was so compelling that I always searched for this record, until such recordings became more easily available these last few years. She is up close to the microphone, and so personal, so casual, so relaxed. I wish that we might have some video of Lee Morse to get the whole package, no? :)
...except it's NOT "from the 1920s". This track was recorded at the Columbia studios, New York, 3 June 1931, and released on American Columbia 2474-D. The music was composed by Gus Kahn, Fed Livingston and Matty Malneck, published early in 1931.
I thought it was a terrific montage of images of Lee, some of which I've never seen before. The zoom into the photos on the billboard outside the theater she was playing at was amazing. As usual, Lee takes this song and brings it to a new level. Thanks.
UA-cam collapses time. Just beautiful.
¡The, Lee Morse, Model, Singer!
Thanx for the lovely graphics on the this classic and haunting melody…

I'm haunted by her voice and her beauty.
im 26, feels like i knew her for hole life. Pure unmachet voice and super-human musical perception for late 20s. Found her today.
such a voice from such a petite lady...
Great job, excellent, health and long life !
SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN HUGE.
TINY TIM took a lot of LEE MORSE into his singing !
