I've been to Cinderford. I did my shopping there whilst camping at Bracelands. I didn't know about the rusty pole. Perhaps one day I'll revisit and take a picture. Then again, perhaps not.
Tewkesbury will forever be Pukesbury to me, after an entire day piloting a narrowboat in the pissing rain with no food and only guinness being handed to me from my fellow boaters who stayed in the dry, I moored us next to what was then the Flour Mill. We went into town, got hammered then I got a chilliburger on the way back. Suffice to say I barfed through the railings of the flour mill. Great stuff Jon, and happy xmas!
@@binarydinosaurs Bet you didn't noticed how much that building is leaning. Although, if you look at the rows of bricks at the water level, you can convince yourself that the building is upright, and the river is sloping...
Before I even watch this episode, I'm glad you came to tewkesbury where we you can do a charity shop, coffee shop and pub crawl! Possibly don't do them all at the same time! 😂
Cooper's Hill is also one of the checkpoints on the Cotswold Marathon (a 40 mile winter overnight race up and down various hills in the Cotswolds), so I'll always remember struggling to race up it whilst my boots were about twice the size they normally are thanks to picking up so much mud from the cow field at the bottom.
Builded is actually a valid word, just uncommon now. You see it in a lot of older songs, for example "They builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps" from the battlehymn of the republic.
Yup specially opening for you on Christmas Day Only day open in winter. Do you need anything else on winter opening days for the museum? I think Jon could help………
I'm sure John provides clear and precise pronunciations for his American viewers who might struggle with English place names when they visit and don't want to look foolish when they murder the English language.
I’m always impressed by your regular ability to mispronounce place names, throughout many an episode - even well known places such as Tewkesbury and Cheltenham. These rank amongst your best yet! Although I suspect this ruse must help with driving up comments? Doh! Another fine episode though all the same 👍
Love how there is an abandoned trolley. Still Gloucestershire is a massive country and does have such amazing bridges and beautiful scenery. Merry Christmas as have a Happy New Year Auto Shenanigans.
Congrats on finding a museum that isn't closed for winter. Edit: and then you go and top that with a rusty pole! You're fully spoiling us with this one, Jon.
John definitely is off his trolley as he 's' wings it! Nor do we see him showing us how to roll your own (cheese). Goodness knows how they manage when it comes to Double Gloucester? Again another great video showing us, our uniquely British eccentricity! Who knows what quirkiness he will uncover next week, I am quite eagerly looking forward to it!
5:55 That's actually a thing that happens quite a lot in the US. Right now there's a something like 16 state lawsuit against Glock trying to bankrupt them with this being one of the issues brought up in the suit.
@@davidhull1481 It amazes me that people can have the attitude you do. I mean you have the entire rest of the world to look at to see how disarming the populace, stripping away the right to self defence, and so on ends up and you still want it.
John's become a lot more lighthearted with a touch of comedy in recent videos. A series of videos I primarily watch as something interesting and informative, I don't expect to have a genuine chuckle and guffaw at. Great work!
Another great video. This time on my old turf. I’ve lived in Glos and cinderford and also lived about 3 fields over from Smarts cheese farm. I’m in werstur now. Merry Chrimbob and that .
Ah, the homelands, how cool it is to recognise literally every road in every clip in this video.. coopers hill a stones throw from childhood home, Currently in Tewks, work in Glos.. Thanks for visiting. It's not always the prettiest of places, but crime is quite lo, and there's plenty of countryside with excellent travel connections to the rest of the country.
Jon I hope you have an incredible Christmas and an Awesome New Year and I hope Project Gilroy is coming along nicely, cant wait to see your next video on that!
You drove right past the end of our street on the way to Coopers Hill. Loved your pronunciation of Tewkesbury, it is like chew as in chewing a bone but some locals pronounce it chucksbury.
Great! You missed a trick at Mitcheldean (‘Yeah’), which used to be the home of Rank Xerox’s photocopier factory (Yeah). AFAIK, aside from the rusty pole, Cinderford’s famous only as the the birthplace of Mrs Thatcher’s favourite interviewer, Radio 2’s very own Sir Jimmy ‘what’s the recipe today, Jim?’ Young. ‘Nuff said.
I remember Chew Kes Bury as a "short cut" route waypoint suggested by the AA in the 1950s for travelling from Manchester to North Devon for summer holidays in the days long before motorways and Google maps and indeed " waypoints". The suggested route made the journey quite a bit longer. My dad went back to using his own route from the road map in the AA handbook in subsequent years. One day it would be nice to travel that old route from Manchester to Ilfracombe again. But I live in Sydney now, so maybe not😂
At this point I'm convinced the pronunciations are deliberate. ❤️ Solid fly joke too. 😀

I think you’re correct, Glow-sess-ter is pronounced wrong too.
I could be wrong, but I suspect Jon is a little salty about the Cotswold Motoring Museum being closed for winter. 🤔
So then take another route that pass by it in the summer and leave some quirky remark on it.
Didn't notice that..
Oh, is it closed for the winter?
He could always visit the Tewkesbury Museum. Unlike the Cotswald Motoring Museum, that is open year round.
It’s closed? Why hasn’t anyone said?
There is a definite Philomena Cunk air to "The building was builded in 1650, most likely as a house, or somewhere to live." 😄👍

Wait until he arrives in Penistone.
Twerksbury threw me until Gloster and the 'who can't say english place names" excellent humour.
If you visit Buxton visit Pavilion Gardens its similar to the Cheltenham Winter Gardens and a Spa Town
I had about 5 minutes of not knowing what was going on with your pronunciation before the joke dropped and I have to applaud the dedication
John; just a reminder, the Cotswold motor museum closes for the winter.
Have a whicked, sweet and awesome Christmas Jon. 🎅🏼
Pure childish humour and antics, utterly brilliant! Have a great Christmas Jon.🎄👍🦊

I liked the word “builded” nice one Jon
