What The Prodigy did was actually genius. Create music that could unite, old school E-head ravers, hip hop heads, sexy student girls, metalheads and indie kids who banged their heads till they couldn't walk anymore.

So this is not the original video, this has all the odd and disturbing visuals taken out. But "The Prodigy" is actually not Keith Flint. It's Liam Howlett. He wrote, performed and produced all the music.

Adding to what this person said, Keith Flint and Maxim Reality originally joined as dancers, it wasn't until they were doing tracks for Fat of the Land that they thought to let either of them do vocals.

Yup - Keith, Maxim and Leeroy (back in the day) are hypemen/dancers. Over the years they have gotten more into the music itself, especially live where some songs have gotten certain recurring hooks (or whatever) adlibbed by Maxim. But Liam is "The Prodigy" most definitely.

The Prodigy is Liam Howlett. That was the name he chose for himself when he was a bedroom producer back in the late 1980s. As he added others such as dancer Keith Flint to his live performances The Prodigy transformed into a group. It was only in their later incarnations that vocals were added to tracks which expanded Keith’s role. Liam remained the primary producer however.

Even though Keith is now sadly departed from this world, his energy and spirit are what makes the Prodigy, and will always be a part of us the audience, and the energy that we give back!
They just announced a UK tour for July to dedicate and honour the memory of Keith, and also to celebrate 25 years since The Fat Of The Land album which Breathe was on. The presale sold out in minutes on all dates of the tour. So its going to be very poignant, emotional, and cathartic to see these guys back on the road, for what is rumoured to be one of their final tours. So if you get a chance to see them in the States, make sure you see them before they call it a day! You won't regret it!
Also Liam Howlett is the main guy behind the music, and one of the nicest dudes ever, as are all of them! Keith was the hype man and the wild one of the bunch who was also a respected rave dancer dating back to the late 80s / early 90s, and Maxim is the main MC and additional hype man. Though the other guy in the video is Leeroy who was also an additional dancer and hype man, but he left between the FOTL and Always Outnumbered period. Though it would be solid to get him back for this FOTL anniversary!

Leeroy did occasionally play the keyboards live, but that happened less than 1% of the time. It was very specific as he took over the keyboards when they performed a live track called Rock'n'Roll, during which Liam played some live drums. This was in the 1994-97 era, before they added a live drummer at the end of 1997. I don't want to discredit the overall role of Leeroy, as he's a founding member and I've also met him a few years ago after one of his DJ sets and he was a really cool guy, but his musical input with The Prodigy was minimal. I just want to point out that Liam is the main live keyboardist (99.99% of the time). Leeroy, on the other hand, was possibly the best dancer that I've seen and he has also produced some interesting music after he left The Prodigy.

Keith and Leeroy started off as just dancers for the Prodigy. They had other members too (not in this video) Sharky (vocalist and dancer 1990-1991) and then they've had various guitarists and drummers for the live shows.

Maxim (the guy with the cane and body paint) later joined as an MC (initially just as a guest performer). Firestarter was I believe the first time Keith really got involved with the music and definitely with the singing. It is essentially about him being the hype man on stage. Smack My Bitch Up is a brilliant music video with a great twist at the end. You guys should DEF watch it on your own if you can't react to it officially. I highly recommend Voodoo People, has that early 90s Breakbeat/Acid House vibe to it. Their album Music for the Jilted Generation is a great prelude to Fat of the Land, the latter being a flawless masterpiece from to back

Music For The Jilted Generation is, IMO, a far better album than The Fat Of The Land. MFTJG to me is a top 5 all time album. That album, along with Rage Against The Machine’s debut, which dropped at around the same time, felt like they honestly smashed away all boundaries between fans of different genres. To the extent that it actually felt different at shows in general after they dropped.

Liam Howlett, the blond guy, writes everything. The other guys, Keith, Leeroy and Maxim were originally around to bolster the live show with dancing and MC-ing. As they got more and more popular the other guys played more of a roll and became integral to the live shows. They also use a lot of live instruments in their live shows.
I would describe them as electronic punk. They have headlined indie festivals and rock festivals alike.
I have seen them live 5 or 6 times and they have never disappointed. The first time I saw them, Keith walked on the crowd in a man sized hamster ball! 😁

Being between my late teens and mid 20's from the early to late 90's I was lucky enough to see The Prodigy live quite a few times, both on their own tours as well as at festivals. They always put on a fantastic show and the energy that they put in really bounced off the crowds too as they were some of the most wild and energetic shows I ever attended. Some of the mosh pits were even more fierce than at a lot of metal shows I went to. They also managed to draw in a really diverse crowd from ravers to punk to indie fans to metal heads, hip hop fans and even the odd pop music fan. Also, while you guys are checking out tracks from their classic album "Fat of the Land" you should also listen to "Diesel Power" which features some dope rhymes from legendary rapper Kool Keith. I just know you dudes will love that song! Happy memories. RIP Keith. Absolute legend!

Prodigy live in 1997 is the best live experience I've ever had. People were getting a bit crushed at the front, and were being helped over the crash barriers. After a 5 minute wait, they came back on stage and announced, "This is for the people who got squashed at the front. It's called "Breathe"".

    Keith Flint (Dancer/MC/vocals)
    Liam Howlett (Synthesiser)
    Maxim (MC/vocals)
    Leroy Thornhill (Dancer)
Then when they started to get a following and playing big gigs they got in a drummer, bass and guitar players, I can't remember all the names but Rob Holliday was the bassist. Think Sharky did vocals also. And it wasn't until the 3rd album "Fat of the land" that you really heard Keith's vocals as the 1st 2 albums was basically just phat as fuck dance tracks. 1 of the best bands to come out of the UK 🇬🇧 🙌

    • @prodigy84bg
      @prodigy84bg 2 роки тому +1

Rob Holliday was the guitarist between 2005 and 2017, but he left for a couple of years around 2007 when he joined Marilyn Manson. He also played the bass on some tracks, as The Prodigy don't have a dedicated bass player. Sharky wasn't a vocalist, but she was the original 5th member of the band and she was a dancer like Keith and Leeroy. Not many people remember/know her, because she was part of the band only for the first half a year after they formed. There is some rare footage from live performances in early 1991 where she appears on stage. She left before they recorded their first official video, but she appears at the end of their video for Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix) released in 2005 for the 15th anniversary of the band.
