It’s surprising that Bonynge never investigated this score. He unearthed quite a few neglected operas, and he and Sutherland obviously had a lot invested in Donizetti.
Interestingly, Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge gave our founder Patric Schmidt his start in London and planted the seed of Opera Rara. There are still many more Donizetti operas to go, but we've made our way through roughly half of them so far.
