    Zee! you are awesome! thank you for your always straight forward no hype opinion. I saw this game at an boardgame store today and didn't even knew it existed, but i knew you guys had this one review, Thanks! sounds like a must buy. post script, your top ten episodes are hilarious while most others aren't and maybe aren't meant to be! Great humor between you guys!

    Hey Zee, great review but I think you miss some aspects why people would like this game
    1. It is a rare game that plays great in teams in smaller player count especially couples (2 vs 2), there are great games like Space Cadets Dice Duels and Captain Sonar, but they really shine at a greater player count. If you know any other great 2 vs 2 games please suggest!
    2. People that already have and enjoy Codenames can combine it with this game to have a game with both words and pictures which is pretty cool ( reason I got it).
    3. It is based on a game many of us played as children and makes it that more appealing to non-board-gamer friends :)

    I haven't tried this one yet, but the word version looks better to me.

      They both look decent to me-- the word version works where you have a lot of friends who like word games (which I do), though personally, I prefer images. And the fact that some words are homographs, is an interesting factor that doesn't occur in pictures quite the same way and I think adds to the word version of the game.

      Personally, I think the word version is better, but this is still a great game. Both are staying in my collection permanently. :-)

    I've played the original many times, once with two non-native English speakers, and they did better than some of the Americans. I'm fascinated by how the most formally educated around the table find ways to overthink themselves out of the right combinations, and how the game makes them feel stupid for going down rabbit holes of their own making.

    I haven't played it yet, but I just can't see how it can be better than the original. But what I most like about the game is what you called the elitist factor, I really feel almost like a genius when I can come up with great hints or can find out what words my partner hinted or I feel really stupid when I can't.
    By the way, it's written "copular" instead of "popular" in the description of the video.

    Thanks for the well thought-out distinction, Zee! Sold!

    It's good to hear you like this one better... I tried to order the original game and got Pictures by accident lol

    I very much dislike word games, in general. I love Codenames. I'm definitely not an elitist with vocabulary and everyone I've played Codenames with has enjoyed it very much. I know that people's creative triggers differ and that words and pictures can activate different parts of the brain. I think both games would be fantastic...I just don't know why there is so much hating on the original.
    Well, I guess there isn't since it's one of the most awarded and highest ranked games ever. haha

      Rico Cordova I think that's why; people might think it's overrated.

    Also worth noting you can fit both the original and pictures into the same box and just play with whatever the groups likes better. This isn't helpful to recommend one or the other but there is no reason to bring one with you and not the other, if you have both.

    i guess the question should be, what makes me want to buy codenames PICTURE over just playing it with Dixit cards and the original code maps already provided? :)

    • @franciscorojas8088

      The amount of pictures, Dixit only has 84 and Codenames 280, also the agent cards actually fit in the images. Plus you can mix it with your original codenames.

    Love codenames. Looking forward to trying this one out

    Yeah, I was not so sure about the original codenames, but this one seems good. Even a bit better than dixit because of teams and a scoring system)

    If you enjoy this game, you are going to dixit this game.

    Codenames with Dixit cards. That could work.

      Tried it with friends. My clue was 'animal', 6 and it was basically game over. It is definitely more luck-prone than the original.

    I find the artworks too artificial...

    Codenames was a miss for me. The rules are too fiddly for a party game and ambiguous to play seriously.
    Looks like this one has slightly cleaner rules than the original though.

      What rules are you talking about?

      Read the page 6 and 7 of the English rules.

    This is exactly how I feel about it aswell. The original one felt kinda meh and elitist, but this one is so much fun.

    • @nahailyenvanakkor
      @nahailyenvanakkor 8 років тому +1

      How is it elitist because it has words instead of pictures? This I don't understand...

    • @Clydelyng
      @Clydelyng 8 років тому +1

      nahailyenvanakkor quiet simply because it makes it easier for people who have a larger vocabulary to flaunt their ego's and thus making it less inviting for others. Same reason why most Trivia games are bad games.

      It's not necessarily about the vocabulary but the ability to tie together your words, which can be done with simple words as well most of the time. Plus, your large vocabulary means nothing if the person who is with you can't "decode" your clues (or vice versa), so it's about team work as well.
      I just find tying together words more interesting than pictures. But this is just an initial impression after watching the review, I'll definitely try Pictures soon, who knows, maybe I'll like it just as much.
