I’d argue that while yes most reality shows are as bad as a mouthful of dumpster juice from a seafood restaurant in summer, most of the shows Mike Rowe was on or had a part in making, were pretty cool (like Dirty Jobs).

@@powercheif True but back then if you wanted to be good at anything you had to be good at what you do the first time, not just make the game half-assed, then have to patch it later on.
Patches were a thing since before this century lol, out of there with the "no patching back then" mindset please. It's more of "harder to patch back then" than "impossible to patch back then".
@@Zejgar If I recall, the "patch" was an updated rerelease of the game. First ones that comes to mind is Ocarina of Time. I think that has 2-3 different versions. Then there was Street Fighter 2 that has like, 7 different games sharing the same name or whatever. Point is, in order to "update" your game, you would need to buy the entire game again. Street Fighter 2 would at least justify it by adding new modes or fighters I think. So back then there was hella lot more pressure to get it right the first time compared to now or else the entire supply was garbage. So yes, it's completely valid to say that "there was no patching back then" because in order to do so, it would count as a new release and you would need to buy it again.
I suppose one of the saddest things about video game development is that it's literally a situation where throwing more money and people at the problem doesn't necessarily make a better product. It's like... the people managing the project lost sight of what makes a game fun.
Game and software bloat in general is such an issue in gaming and tech. Year over year they make 'improvements' to technology that should make everything faster, cheaper, more efficient, but software and products get worse and worse, slower loads, bloated file sizes and wasteful excess. If the industry is going to make any headway on actually making games again then it's going to just be indies that move the market now. Corporations chase infinitely expanding projected profits and have bloated, unrealistic budgets and marketing to match. I wish they'd stop saying and perpetuating the idea of "Games are just more expensive to make now" while ignoring the success of budget indies dunking on them. The reality is simply "AAA Games are made more expensively now.", there's not a need or invisible force twisting their arm.

So according to a quick search here the US military budget was $877billion in 2022 (40% of total spending on military world wide by all countries, which is estimated at $2.2trillion).
It's absolutely a problem that games are more expensive to produce. Because game companies just find shittier and shittier ways to syphon money from the stupid side of the gaming audience to try to break even on their ridiculous development costs. And this is all happening because of horse armor, and people thinking that cosmetic microtransactions are fine (they're not). If gamers as a whole had been more vocal about wanting new games that are good at launch and not giving any money for any microtransactions, the market would be better now, because the market would've adapted towards quality and quantity rather than... whatever this is. My favorite example remains Dead Space 3. A bit old at this point, but it was a point where budgets were already incredibly stupid, and, in that case, to an extent where it would be impossible to make a profit. Dead Space 3, to break even with its ridiculous budget, had to sell more near-launch copies than Dead Space 1 and Dead Space 2, combined. It didn't, because it also happened to be considerably shittier than both of those games. After that EA could've realized they were being stupid and started being good at budgeting... instead, they kept the high budgets and just started finding ways to take more money with the same products. That's how you end up with Diablo 4 having 9000 people working on it, and not a modicum of quality being able to seep through, and yet they think that's okay because they can just sell the expansions for a hundred bucks and the stupid people who bought Diablo 4 will just keep giving them more money.
I dont think there are cars in gta5 that cost irl money. And the ingame money is worthless. Just mod like 100mil and you´ll be fine. Rockstar doesnt even care. Dont know where that whole "gta online is pay to win" came from, but its not true. Everybody can get everything for free in the game.
$ 30 billion dollars is the budget for the US army? Im confused...Are you saying that out of the $ 886 Billion/year military budget, only $ 30 billion goes to the army?
Suck to spend 2000 dollar on gta 5 and loose all of that money when gta 6 comes around. I think at some point publishers will start to offer atleast a 50% return on real money trade into future games. When? When people who pay start to yell high enough. This will not happen on Gta6. But i think smaler publishers will offer this in the future as their smal dev team can handle that extra fee to gain better costumer loyalty.
I wouldn't say "Aspiring developers" When Triple A studios use the same software or use a fork of the software in which they have a custom license with Epic Games. So not so much aspiring as they use the same software as the big studios do.

Having the games was also a crapshoot due to no patching. So if a game was bad, it was bad forever back then
Oh yeah that was a long time ago I miss that, played a lot of good games back then.

Eyy, Happy New Year guys and to you too, Alana 🎉🎆
Thanks, Happy New Year to you too
6:18 I want that as an alarm
Happy new year Alana, hopefully this year is great for you.
i suggest these games on steam; most are high discount from christmas still; THUMPER, JUBILEE, SPLASHER, and the PURRFECT APAWCALYPSE TRILOGY
Splasher was surprisingly good. It was a good palate cleanser after beating The End Is Nigh. I usually give up on Thumper halfway through.

Video gaming in the 90's and 2000's were good times.
That poor dog being choked in the background......
Alls i'll say is - not every game was better back then but there legit was something for everyone.

The Sims 4 with all of its DLC on Steam costs at the time of writing about €1200.
Was surprised. My boy The Plain Bagel at the end of the vid.
Happy new year
Happy New Year, Alana!!!!!
I don't comment often, but I just wanted to say. I enjoy watching your videos. Hope you have a good day.
