I lived in Las Vegas from 1998 through most of 2015, and over that period I was able to see Debbie Reynolds perform her “little show”, as she called it, a few times, usually at the Orleans hotel. After she was done with the show, she could get in her car and go to her house about 6 blocks away. One of those times was down in Laughlin, NV, a place to spend a weekend if you have no other things in your life. (Although, that trip I won about $700 on a nickel slot machine!!) I also had been on a quick trip to Las Vegas during the time she was trying to make her hotel work and she was there, giving tours of all the things she’d saved. The last time I saw her show was in November 2014, at the Suncoast Casino. It was the first time she’d performed in a while, and during some interviews in the paper, she’d said that this was her last show; she just wasn’t up to performing anymore. They also announced the Carrie and Todd would both be there. She was 82 years old and she was indeed not in the best performing state. Carrie and her daughter, Billie Lourd were both there; they had just flown home from the UK where they had done some of their work in the Star Wars movie that came out in 2015. Carrie sang a couple of song as did her daughter;lots of banter with the three and Todd, who showed parts of the video he has of their lives. Some of the video taken at that show was used in the movie made about them, Bright Lights and Big City. The movie was originally on HBO but you can find it on video and Amazon Prime, probably other places as well. It was released in January 2017, just after both of them had died. I have an adult daughter who’s 36 years old now and from the time she was 12 years old, she (and her friend, Sadie) watched VHS copies of both Singin’ in the Rain and Grease and to this day, she still knows all the words and can’t wait until her 6 year old is ready to learn them. She and I went to see Singin’ In the Rain at the theater, in one of the Fathom Events, in January 2017. So fun to see it on the big screen. Some of the many things on UA-cam featuring Debbie are kind of bad quality, but some are fun to watch. And if you’re fan, get a copy of Todd’s book, My Girls, that was published earlier this year. Lots of very interesting stories about his life and how his mother and Carrie were such a big part of it. It also has lots of pictures.
She was so petite and dainty but her talent was enormous, she sang, danced, played comedy and tregedy and every other emotion to absolute perfection. Taken from us far too soon.
Luv that gal since I first saw her in the movie Three Little Words Can't quite remember the number she sang but she exuded the feeling of anticipation that a star was in the making Her aura of /watch out there's plenty more to come/she delivered then as she has yet srtill today Heck Debbie I was a young stud and available when you and that creep Eddie Fisher first married As the song goes/you made me love you..../
Gonna miss Debbie so much Her passing makes me so incredibly so sad. But what a life and legacy she left us all.. What a remarkable special talented Woman she was NEVER WILL FORGET HER
Saw her perform at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh & loved it ! I was a teen & always loved all the old movies... I was amazed at her energy as it appeared to be a one wman show.
Ever since a teenage Mary Francis not only held her own (at about 30 feet high) out singing and dancing both Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor, in "Singing in the Rain" this world had it's brightest star. All these years later, she's only gotten better!
Such a wonderful person, singer & actress. Loved her in the Halloweentown movies. R.I.P. "Aggie Cromwell" this Halloween will be a little emptier without you. You will be missed.
What a dreadful loss for her, Carrie, and now the great lady herself, very very sad, for someone who lit up the stage and screen, and brightened all our lives, God Bless their memory and Mr George S. Irving, playing the CD of the show as I type.
You did a great job describing the pre-Broadway trials and tribulations of this revival. I saw it in Philadelphia and can attest to what you said. The show was nothing at all like the show in New York. For example, the title song "Irene" was only sung in the Philly tryout by Debbie and her co-star Monte Markum, but by the time it got to New York, the male chorus became a big part of the number with great Gower Champion choreography.
Such an incredible entertainer and performer. What an incredible voice!!! She may not be as great as Judy Garland, who will never be equaled, but Debbie is in Judy's league of legendary performers.
What makes this performance remarkable is the challenges faced by Reynolds here. The material is dated, corny, and saccharine. And it is incredibly simple and repetitive. How can she retain interest as she sings the same notes, the same lyric over and over and over. It takes a real veteran to pull this off and reward an audience for paying attention. Its all about gestures, changing the way she stands, and moves, tweeking the phrasing and altering the tempo. Its a masterclass in meeting tedious material and vanquishing it.
Debbie got dumped by Eddie Fisher in around 1957 with 2 little children. For Liz Taylor, but after all she was so very beautiful and rich and the recent widow of Mike Todd. Debbie, Liz, Mike and Eddie were all friends. Mike Todd had been the producer or something big of Around the World in 80 Days and other big movies I think I recall. Debbie was maybe 40 when this item was made. I think. Debbie continued to sing Tammy, Tammy until the near end, because she knew her fans wanted to hear it and was likely a main reason they came to her shows. Debbie was really a great performer. .
Debbie had grace and class that she carried throughout her entire life, no matter how many blows came her way. Her shows left you feeling great, and people of all ages attended! She was incredibly kind to her fans. She never, ever turned a fan away. You will never find another one like Debbie. It's so incredibly heartbreaking that life ended the way it did.
I was there. It was a wonderful time. I don't remember if Harry's partner was around at that time. His name was Frankie Montalvo I believe. I know he was there for Sugar Babies
Okay, so now you're becoming increasingly cuter to me. Thank u for clarifying ur background & since I'm a few year ur senior, I might take the opportunity to point out that technology then isn't what it is today by any means. With that said, I do appreciate ur musical knowledge & ear. The only criticism I have, and perhaps it was all in ur choice of words, was the way it sounded like u attacked Ms. Reynolds herself. I'm glad we could get to know each other. BTW, where are you from? I'm in NE PA.
She's fantastic! A few times, though, she seems to be rushing the beat.. could be, however, she wasn't used to that pianist or he wasn't as rehearsed with her as well as he could have been.
Glinda's always "light" (in the loafers) & proud of it but I always keep it real, 2! I don't see one other disparaging remark made here about her so maybe YOU should go back to Juilliard or Berklee CoM or whatever music school you went to, Mr. Arnold. There was nothing funny about ur post. So fix ur make-up; DON'T tell me to 'lighten up'; & read my blog at WordPress or I may have to beat u with my wand, my luv, & I have a BIG wand, LOL! This by no means doesn't mean I don't still adore you! TTFN

Her passing makes me so incredibly so sad.
But what a life and legacy she left us all..
What a remarkable special talented Woman she was
NEVER WILL FORGET HER
Yes she was special and all of those who had the privilege of hearing her sing shall miss her. A very good Singer and fine lady besides.
RIP, dear Debbie Reynolds. So glad I was able to see you in IRENE.
What a pro! I've seen her in concert numerous times in Chicago and she is always fresh, inventive, fun and thoroughly enchanting.
Wonderful!! Rest in the arms of your Lord Miss Reynolds.
WOW WOW WOW ! WHAT A TALENT !!!!!
Saw her perform at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh & loved it ! I was a teen & always loved all the old movies... I was amazed at her energy as it appeared to be a one wman show.
What a talent, what a voice! I miss her so much! She's been one of my biggest idols since I was little. Rest in peace, Debbie! 💕
I enjoyed this. I love Debbie Reynolds, and I love this old sweet song.

Aaaaaw honey thanks
I saw the pre-Broadway opening in Washington DC. She was sensational. Patsy Kelly and George Irving were marvelous, too.
Ever since a teenage Mary Francis not only held her own (at about 30 feet high) out singing and dancing both Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor, in "Singing in the Rain" this world had it's brightest star.
All these years later, she's only gotten better!
This was Broadcast in 1980. All star cast. I still have the VHS.
Thank you for this! She is a total doll!
I love this song, and this version.
She's beautiful.
She is feeling a lot less beautiful today. She has lost her daughter. No woman wants to live longer than her own child. My deepest sympathies.
I'm feel the hurt in your text and I want to point out your pain, you seem like a long time follower of her work and career.
You go girl (and I don't see a body mic)! RIP, Debbie, and thanks for the memories!! We shall miss you!!
Such a wonderful person, singer & actress. Loved her in the Halloweentown movies. R.I.P. "Aggie Cromwell" this Halloween will be a little emptier without you. You will be missed.
She had such a great voice
Una crack Debbie Reynolds. Me entristecio mucho su
desaparición física.
No pudo superar la muerte de su hija.
Shocked that she just died. She will be forever remembered in the musical movie classic, Singing In The Rain. RIP, Debbie 🌹❤
Rip sweet lady.
What a dreadful loss for her, Carrie, and now the great lady herself, very very sad, for someone who lit up the stage and screen, and brightened all our lives, God Bless their memory and Mr George S. Irving, playing the CD of the show as I type.
RIP I miss you and your angel voice
She's brilliant!
Legends ONLY.
Always CLASSY!
Masterful.
We loved her in everything she did..

My mother named me after her. I just love her.
It's the conductor's job to follow the singer. I'm sure he or she was more than happy to do so for Ms. Reynolds.
dougster2810 Thank you so much for the production history.
I wish someone would post this whole series.
I love it
She is in the same age as my grandma. Whatever, she is still lovely!
Such an incredible entertainer and performer. What an incredible voice!!! She may not be as great as Judy Garland, who will never be equaled, but Debbie is in Judy's league of legendary performers.
Joyce Bryant 1920's brought me here
Thank you dougster2810 for the fine posting... and thank YOU IrenaMV for sharing!
great
voice
you made me love you, you woke me up to do it.
Looking forward to seeing Debbie in London Apollo Theatre at the end of April 2010
"Hi Debbie!" hahahaha
Debbie would have been great in vaudville too...she's a born and natural entertainer.
Still grogeous!!!
George S. Irving, Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher were all in this show on Broadway and all died this week.
I don't believe Carrie acted in IRENE.
Myles Garcia she was in the chorus at least.
Carrie was in the chorus astrokentico.s3.amazonaws.com/rojakdaily/media/adeline-tan/news/august%202016/irene.jpg

@ImpatraZ Her song (to Eddie) "Am I that easy to forget" has never been sung by anyone better than her...not even Engelbert. She had a great voice.
met her once at her own casino in Las Vegas years ago 1990s I think
i think nearly all of them from back them in the golden days sang it at some point
She reminds me of Sharon Gless here. Or should I say Sharon Gless reminds me of Debbie Reynolds.
I was there. It was a wonderful time. I don't remember if Harry's partner was around at that time. His name was Frankie Montalvo I believe. I know he was there for Sugar Babies
