So much respect for them playing Spasticus Autisticus. Not only is it a song relevant in theme to the paralympics, but the sentiment behind it is typically British. Perfect fit for these Games
In answer to Rob Jessop here they are from Graeae Theatre Company Rob,a disabled theatre company in Hoxton London. They did this song here as part of Reasons To Be Cheerful which was a musical they based on Ian Dury and John Kelly is a professional singer that I know sings
Performing at a truly ground-breaking event, to an audience of 80,000 and millions more on TV, and with Stephen Hawking on stage wearing THE head torches. Career highlight, surely?
That's the thing about the scientific method, when the evidence points out a scientist is wrong they admit it and integrate the new facts into their world view. Reason FTW!
It took more than thirty years for the world to catch up to Ian Dury's intent with Spasticus Autisticus. That is both sad and hopeful at the same time...
Yup, and it's mashuped to the Orbital's song, actually the special version of it featuring Stephen Hawking, which was finally released last week as a part of the upcoming rework/remix release called 30 something
And this was why CH4's coverage of the Paralympics was amateurish at best. The commentator failed to mention that it was Orbital and then failed to mention Ian Dury's "Spasticus Autisticus" - he of course had a disability. It was as if CH4 had not been given any information on who or what was performing at the ceremony - which I find hard to believe because they were its sponsor.
This song, without any doubt, always gives me chills
I thought it was just me too!
I just got a bit teared up.
Great to see Orbital being broadcast to millions!
Best piece of any Olympic ceremony, ever.
Goosebumps and tears to my eyes.
I'm watching this at work and I'm welling up. What a powerful performance. Orbital are untouchable. I'm humbled.
Underworld and Orbital. You soundtracked Great Britain's best summer in a generation.
So much respect for them playing Spasticus Autisticus. Not only is it a song relevant in theme to the paralympics, but the sentiment behind it is typically British. Perfect fit for these Games
RIP Professor. Your star will always shine brightly for us.
Utterly brilliant. Best part of either opening ceremony.
..sends shivers down my spine.

WOW AMAZING!!!!!
Performing at a truly ground-breaking event, to an audience of 80,000 and millions more on TV, and with Stephen Hawking on stage wearing THE head torches. Career highlight, surely?
No kidding, huh? And still making music, the both. Amazing.
bam!!! love it
this is waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than anything at OLYMPICS opening ceremony
Every time I hear past 3:54 I instantly get chills, without fail
awesome....
Epic.
...and 03:32 Ian Durys' famous process song re-interpreted by the Grey Eye Theatre company with singer John Kelly
Protest Song I believe...
Upvotes for you!
If they play this sample live I think I will cry.
Can't we just make this song by Orbital the Anthem of the damn planet already?
Great to see ian mckellen there as well
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
I seriously think Stephen Hawking should become the third wheel of Orbital
YES!
Although evidently that's now how you spell Graeae Theatre Company ;)
best video ever....with Stephen Hawking with the LED light glasses....WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-D``` Beautiful!
Lovely to see Stephen Hawking getting into the spirit by wearing the Orbital headtorches!
Nice one Hartnol bruthas

Hi John Do you remembered me we were school together in Kingston

REST IN PEACE STEPHEN HAWKING!
Hope Paul&Phil use it live
not to be a prick but... Moog Voyager Rack, MacBeth M5 Modular, DSI Tempest, and yes one set of three iPads for midi control of those instruments.
Wow
That's the thing about the scientific method, when the evidence points out a scientist is wrong they admit it and integrate the new facts into their world view. Reason FTW!
Magneto! @1:54 Cool song & performance, would have been cooler with Professor X though.
magneto for mutant equality, represent.
Ian Dury and The Blockheads, one of great British bands of any era.........There ain't half been some clever bastards.
I love how Stephen Hawking had the same lights on his glasses Orbital tends to wear. :D
Fucking brill.
Was that Orbital playing that keyboard synthesizer tune? at the very beginning...where the Airmobility Plane flies in?
Wonder what genre of music Stephen Hawking likes?
not being insulting just curious
Anyway brilliant show by Orbital!
what does the commentator say at 4:40 then?
fucking mint
Not even Guetta would be able to perform half as well with his USB flashdrive.
yeah no kidding! Why do we get the crap we do? Orbital's music is beautiful and inspiring...seems like a much more fitting choice.
It took more than thirty years for the world to catch up to Ian Dury's intent with Spasticus Autisticus. That is both sad and hopeful at the same time...
Magneto approves
anyone know if this band, the band doing spasticus, are around and gigging ?
I think they were put together specifically for this performance. Drummer Mat Fraser is an actor and presenter.
Transformer of Perception*
wow.. I´m number 303 watcher :)
It's ridiculous that Stephen Hawking speaks about the Higgs Boson when he was betting it would never be found. Google it.
01:45 - I hear "Svastikas, svastikas, svastikas or testicles"
11 knobs and counting
Hatsune Hawkins
Stephen Hawking R.I.P. “Transform Our Perception of the Universe” :’(
that dude sounds like ian dury
lol, that's Sir Ian Mcklellan, and he is every bit as talented as Sir Patrick Stewart (and Im a trekkie)
I mean c'mon, they're both knights!
*headtorches :)
Not sure that kind of thing would have happened in Beijing.
what's going on here? The song is called Spasticus Autisticus.
Yup, and it's mashuped to the Orbital's song, actually the special version of it featuring Stephen Hawking, which was finally released last week as a part of the upcoming rework/remix release called 30 something
...and it's not live anyway.
This is the most confusing ive ever
haha.. thanks, tho i was joking..
I wish the announcer would of been quit thru the performance, very cool though

What are you talking about, Ginger? Both were mentioned, and plenty of information was given. Your comment is utterly ridiculous.
Why isn't fair? Do you mean that Paralympics isn't as "good" as Olympics and therefore should have worse artists... ? I hope not.
not really trance :) but it's lovely I know :)
Orbital could have made the Olympic Ceremony amazing compared to the crap *they* had.
fake
What's fake about it?
Sorry, I didn't laughed.
this is awful
QuiEstJohnGalt your effort was much better presumably?
How so?
