im not saying SOMEONE hasn't done it but like. ALL of that is wrong. Pre 98 (Ucf10) 1uz has trouble making 500 flywheel hp with stock internals. Need high compression pistons, steel headgaskets. Manual swaps are pretty difficult due to the LS and SC400 never coming with manual trans from factory. Requires lots of adapting, shearing starter gears, clutch pedal fab etc. Also All the weight reduction in the world wont get an LS down to 3200. js.

Funny thing: When he's parking he's like "This is a big girl, its like I'm driving a semi"
No, no it's not. And I'm not just acting offended, I'm serious. For how big it is, the steering radius of the LS400 is really good. My dad's '99 Camry has a worse turning radius. I can turn around on my residential street and park in one turn, but I can't do that in the Camry. I also never overestimate if I can make a turn into a parking spot or not because I can actually turn hard enough to squeeze in.

What I hate about owning an LS400 is that most owners don't care at all about performance unless it's to drift. They'll just use the stock engine and weld the diff, but nobody does any real performance mods. I really want to push my '95 to 300+HP, but there's just not all that much mods out there. In Australia it seems the 1UZ is more popular for modding, so they have stuff like superchargers that are easily accessible, but not here in the States. In my town I found like 10 guys that all own LS400s or GS400s, but they've just gone the drift route, slam it, straight pipe it, weld the diff, and slide it (not always in places they should be). I want to go a route that nobody else does, and turn mine into a track car. I want to challenge myself, cause it's really not made for the track at all, but I want to see what I can do.

I own a 1996 with 75k miles. As the video mentions mods are mostly cosmetic, mine has exhaust, coilovers, Work Wheels etc. along with VIP interior stuff. Things I hear often are the wiring harness tuck like the video mentions for people going low, I'm low on coilovers but don't have any camber so don't rub on that. Other things I hear people say is that when the power steering pump goes it leaks all over the alternator and kills that in the process due to it's placement. Also I get issues with my RPM gauge/Speedo not working occasionally, this is fixed by giving the top of the dash a thump, although the recommended fix is to get capacitors in ECU/Cluster replaced as these can leak because of age. Hope this helps :)

I own a 92, slowly fixing gaskets and such but otherwise in very good condition. Just brake layed my rotors an got some nice import direct brakes pads on them, brakes so much smoother, I have a whole new rack an pinion setup, going but bosch quietcast rotors all around it eventually. Then I'll be fixing the wood interior as the residue on the real wood has worn off so they dont stay in their sockets fully flushed. Less than 85k miles and got it for $5800

If he mentioned it I didn’t catch it. The ‘98 and up have a 5sp compared to the later year 4sp transmissions. The 4sp are dog slow but the 5sp have a respectable 6.3-6.6 0-60, fairly quick for this boat of a vehicle.

I never liked the way the 95-97s looked, I prefer the 1990-94 or the 98, 99 personally (mines a 90) all around good cars either way, spend a little more to get one in good condition, cuz they arent like Mercedes, BMW, Audi by totaling themselves with one small repair, but it can get expensive, unless your doing your own work.

OMG at 2:54 it looks SOOO GOOD! Why do you have to slam it??? A 2 inch drop looks so clean, and if you go static, it's actually usable! I'm tired of seeing all these damn SLAMMED "VIP" LS400s everywhere, that's just not the look for this car! Controversial, I know, but I feel very strongly about this!

I bought a mint 99 ls400 for my first car and they’re great cars but honestly not a good first car. Pros: reliable, decently quick(5.8 to 60 on a 99-2000), stands out a lot being a big body sedan, comfortable, 1uz sounds good Cons: Hard and expensive to work on, engine bay is very cramped. Basically everything you need to replace on this car is annoying and expensive. Starter is inside the engine, 8+ hours labor, timing belt/water pump will grenade the engine if they break and the job cost about 950$. Some years have very unreliable ecus that cost a very unrealistic amount to fix. Gas isnt terrible on the vvti cars, i get about 24 average mixed city/highway driving. Ls400s are a really good value for the money but be prepared to pay at least a 1000 more in order to get everything fixed up.

I have a 95 LS400 on coilovers with stock wheels at the moment just cuz I feel like they're more comfortable the custom wheels I had on it were too big 20 inch im in the process of getting some 18's but for now I feel like keeping stock wheel shoooo comfortable and feels lighter on the car. Steve's car is nice man the seats are in great conditions must be super comfy however I'm not a fan of airlift and the way the car sits low parked but his car not mines enjoy the beauty of these cars super reliable as well great video

@@andrewb4077 it does at times but I think it also depends on the tires u get some tires u can feel everything some u don't I'm still testing different option but honestly I don't mind the bumpy ride as long it's not too crazy bumpy and also I feel like I already got used to the riding quality of it that I don't even pay too much attention if it's bumpy

i had alot of fun cars and still want more.
when i lived in florida i started buying different kind of cars and motors to play with and stopped being diehard to the brands i liked most. good choice. if it had an engine i was interested until i either didnt like the engine for various reasons or it just wasnt what i was looking for. at one point i was dailying a 2 stroke scooter cause it was cheap way stupid fun to drive and could outpace most vehicles on the road at the time. and on the commute i had to take with it i stumbled on a few cars i didnt know much of but loved the body lines and researched them a couple stood out. these lexus were one of them i just loved the body. the vw corrado was pretty slick too but a total vw pos.
many years later im actually in the market to buy one of these as it would be a great car for what i need it for. somethign i can drive anywhere and with a slight lift and its comical oversized tires i can fit 31-33" truck tires. no problems and with its legendary drivetrain i can 2 track it or highway without worry vs a built vehicle. im even thinking after i have it going a year or 2 and work out my need wants for it its gonna get a supercharger and 5-7 lbs of boost max and it will scoot around just like a new car and still be reliable for a long time.
