- It was years in the making; the hood for my 71 Camaro seemed like it would ever make it on the car. It was a nightmare. Until... Today, we talk about the issues, the problems we found, how we solved them, and what the new hood looks like for my 1971 Camaro Resto.

The journey is almost complete!
Beautiful
Thank you
Looking forward to seeing you put all the badges on the car. Gonna be awesome!
Looks good!
🔥🔥🔥
Man, looks great! So jealous, but giving the motivation to get mine finished.
You can do it!
I am going through this same thing right now. I have those hinges(Ringbrothers) on doors and billet specialties hinges on hood. Body guys hate em.
Beautiful color
It really is!
Nice revisit on your project in order to fix some of the unforeseen issues. I just finished my 1972 Camaro and pretty much had all kinds of aftermarket parts issues, pita! Ended up using GM stuff in the end. OER sucks! ******* I do have a NEW unused RS front end from OER, that's going to be wall art for gods sake !! (Junk) ****** Nice to see that your still wanting to fix this issue. Most would have given up or whatever. Been watching your build since day one . Took me 3 1/2 years .......ish
We hit 3 years since it was painted in July. 3 3/4 years from start. It was more having the money to fix it.
Its easier to start with as much factory parts as possible and then modify on that, but some of these 2nd gens fit janky with AMD and OER parts.
You can make anything fit but it comes down to if you wanna put the time in, a lotta guys have crooked bumperettes and wild door gaps but it comes down to taste
Car looks AMAZING! what color is that? Its close to my 91 Phantom Grey I did. I love the choice on exposed hood ...love it!
I remember when i had the 91 cut and polished, i could not beleive the difference it made, well worth the money if you have never had it done, i wss the same way after the car was finished, like 1-2 years after we finalized it, the airbrush guru Dave Connery pased away and i was worried all the time to drive it , if anything happen , the car would never be the same unless we re-did from scratch.
It’s Shark Grey Metallic
PPF that beauty so you can enjoy it with worrying about rock chips
I’ve always been able to see the lines of PPF. I’ve never been a fan.
@@Lethalgarage There are places that wrap around the edges of the panel so you will never see the line of the PPF.
@@DarkKnight-ws3wx I just don’t want these panels coming off for a wrap.
@@Lethalgarage my shop does cars like yours we never take the panels off trust me it would save you from having to worry about that beautiful paint job getting rock chips.
If you're worried about the paint..... have it ppf'd to protect the awesome paint job!
Will you be putting a ceramic coat on when done? Or possibly a VPF?
No plans for either
How much for the hinges. Can you use them with the original hood
Asking 400 bucks. they’re designed for aftermarket, fiberglass or carbon fiber hoods
@@Lethalgarage Thanks, Trying to stick with original hood.
@@jmark7390 they do offer a set that supports the stock hood weight
Would you have any pictures on how he cut the hood to get those lines and gaps to work?
A few are in the video, sorry didn't realize I had them show so quickly. We went the route of the cuts to avoid having to bodywork the car in moving out the fenders. It was an easier option. The issue was mainly not having the hood ahead of sending it to paint.
Nice work and the look is fantastic. @@Lethalgarage
So I love that the fancy hood hinges that you said had all the different adjustments Billet Hood Hinges? 1970-1981 Camaro - CVF Racing
LethalGarage
83.5K subscribers And I bought a set based on what you said, and NOW you say that they were a problem, and did in fact NOT have the adjustments needed , WTF , you need to go back and UPDATE your other video, and set the fing record right, and let people know. THANKS FOR NOTHING
The problem wasn’t the hinges. It was the aftermarket hood. The mounting holes were so off-center. There was no way to make it work.
The other problem is, I wasn’t willing to do complete bodywork to move all the fenders in the doors all over again on the car so we had to make what I had work and the only way we could do that was with the factory hinges and even then we had to adjust those beyond factory to get those to work properly
So when you said that the CVF hinges didn’t have the right amount of adjustment, that was only on your car , not on a correctly adjusted vehicle
@@davecolquhoun9315 for my specific application with the issues I was encountering. Sold the hinges to a gentleman with another aftermarket hood and they bolted right up and adjusted without issues.
Glad you clarified, and I hope you edit this video, because you say that there wasn’t enough ability to adjust and that makes it sound like the hinges were too blame and not the hood,
Thanks
