I FINALLY Pulled the Trigger on a 1979 w/Box Blue 6" Colt Trooper mark III. Do I have a Python?Yes ,I also have a Smith&Wesson 19-2, a 27-2 But since I was Young before I owned my Python,I wanted a Trooper mark III 357 before Any of Them! Ive waited a Long Time! They are ALL 6".Thanks Big Ed,I enjoy your Videos and I have watched this one a Dozen Times in the Process!
its good to see you with another video, especially on the uncommon Colt Trooper. I recently got myself a Ruger GP100 Match Champion, its one jim dandy of a revolver. Highly recommend it for your next video
Thanks for the video! I purchased a Trooper MKIII about 3 weeks ago at a gun auction for six sixty. You are spot on with the quality, shoot-ability and trigger. The trigger is smooth but a bit heavier than my Smiths. It is also the first Colt revolver in my collection and I’ve been wanting one forever.
Outstanding topic and review. There is a reason I have four. A 6" in Coltguard, a 4" like yours in blue, a 4 " Coltguard (satin nickle), a and a 4 " blue in 22 LR. Had the blue 4" since 1976.
The colt trooper of the MK III was one of 3 revolvers colt introduced in 1969. They were the trooper the lawman and the official police. They were new guns named after their previous counterparts. The older ones were all hand fitted similar to the python. The original trooper 357 was known as a “poor mans python” the MKIII series used sintered metal parts (basically MIM) and a coil main spring. It was done as a cost cutting measure because colt was suffering from labor issues at the time. They guy who came up with these guns was a man named Carl Lewis. He went on the work with Dan Wesson on their removable barrel revolvers. The trooper MK V which replaced the MKIII was made on colts V frame ( similar to smiths k frame)and sintered parts were replaced with cast metal. When it Was discontinued they beefed up the MK V and it became the king cobra. The MK III guns are colts J frame. The MK V and original king cobra are the V frame. The pythons and original troopers are I frames.
I actually own more S&W’s than colts. Lol ! But do have a fair share. I will say The money people are asking for the new pythons you might want to save up the doe and buy an original one. Just my humble opinion
Big ed I know this video isn't the 1 for the buffalo bore however after seeing that video I am. Going. To be getting the buffalo bore for defense in the woods this is a great video
686 is a nice gun no doubt but they seen the Python and other Colts and copied em shamelessly. I have both brands and love em. collector? naa.. I shoot my stuff.

I do love revolvers! I'll get on it.
Nice........ you fell into that deal !!
How can you tell what year one of these are from? Is it based on the serial number?
Yes just look up the serial number with Colt.
