1991 zxr400 L1 owner here! Dont cut corners on parts especially safety items. Since the engine is ok, it wont cost you much to bring the bike back to good running order. Its worth every penny even if it will never be a collectors item. There are lots of people in the UK with zxr400's but if you need any help fell free to ask. Good luck with it!!
In Germany prices are rising. For low mil. in original and good condition you have to pay 5-6k €.. in 2017 ive had buyed mine for 1800€ i will never sale it. 😅
@Music96able exactly. I bought mine almost 4 years ago here in Greece for 1300€ and put another 700€ in parts. I will never sell it also because it has sentimental value as it was my first project bike and the first bike I really wanted for years
It’s ultimately down to what works for the channel I guess. As a viewer I love seeing these bikes back on the road, seeing general skills in the workshop helps me to learn also. Never had the money for the 400’s back in the day so love these builds and you are thorough and this is evident on the bikes done previously. My 91 gsxr has cost me now a small fortune and the carbs have been a nightmare but it’s still worth it. Selfishly I’d say carry on but it has to be the right decision for you. Either way I will still follow and support the channel🎉🎉
Thanks for the comment, reading these do help me push on with the builds 👍 Carbs can be such a pain when they don’t play ball! Thanks for the channel support 🙏

Good to hear the videos are only getting better for you viewers 😎👍 Let’s get the first ride done and go from there, hopefully know the future of this little pocket rocket in the coming episodes 👍
It's going to be used again and someone else will get years off enjoying it,, great wee motorcycle,, from Northern Ireland,, cracking job,, better than never being ridden just rotting away,👍👍👍👍☘️☘️☘️☘️
Great stuff, really enjoy watching your vids. I just bought an old bike to restore and you have spurned me on. Keep it up, zx400’s seem to be the rage at the moment so worth doing. Keep it up.
I really like this one. Interesting to see a budget clean up and rebuild using mostly economy parts and fluids. Never going to be worth a fortune but will probably make a cracking wee modern pocket rocket
You do what is best for the channel! She sounds lovely and very much alive , I love the Inline4s they are so special for me. ( Your CP4 R1 is crazier but that is another story ) Got my first bike recently R6 2006 and it is crazy with the 20k rpm on the dash , so you give me plenty of inspiration and knowledge cause you do stuff very thorough and careful always on point. My humble opinion : do not go all in with the brakes keep it simple as you mentioned in the video (maybe save some budget for something else) Cheers mate!
Love the channel. This is the kind of high quality youtube content we need more of. Just a lad fixing bikes with great voiceover and chill music. I own an RSV Mille myself and was very much inspired by your Mille build to buy it.

I'd say keep at this project, if only for nostalgic puproses. This would instinctively be the natural follow up to your RS125 build, given that for a fair few 30+ year olds, the moment we were able to get our hands on a grey import 400 (or even UK spec), following on from our derestricted 125 days, we did. Sadly, I never had the opportunity to own a ZXR400L, instead I had the even rarer ZXR250C - what a peach of a screamer that was!
I wish I had the space to keep them all 😭 Valid point though, as you mention these were part of the stepping stone for many from the 125cc’s I’ll certainly take it for a spin before making any final decisions 👍 Mental redline on those ZXR250’s! Would love to try one 😎

I have been riding the ZXR 400 for 12 years now and recently did a small engine overhaul (valve stem seal had to be replaced). It's fun to watch you work on the bike. The bike is great and it's always fun to ride it: it's a small, quirky motorbike that you can ride on country roads without breaking any limits. I'm looking forward to the next episodes!
I’m liking this build it’s a shame you don’t think your viewers arnt keen on seeing this progress. The acf50 trick is something I’m going to do now 👍😉👍 I’d like to see it turnt into a track bike. In The right hands these can seriously embarrass bigger more expensive bikes 😎
Keep it going bud! I know these projects can feel like they suck the enthusiasm out of you, but I think once you have the fairings on there and get to test ride it, it will be worth it. I know I'll watch it at least..
Please continue with the series. The Tokico calipers Kawasaki use are infamous for seizing up. Normally corrosion behind the seals. The pistons didn't look too bad (relatively!), but look like someone might have used pliers to pull them out (rather than pitting from corrosion). Probably worth pumping them out a bit and checking the condition more carefully on their full length.
@ yes please do I’m rebuilding my very rare 2004 rs125 tuono to put on track and don’t know where to start with suspension and actually doing the licences and what racing/track days involve
I don’t always comment on your vids (although I watch them) but this time I need to say something. 1) your video production is great 2) your decision making on the project is excellent, from the JB weld solution to the brake pad refurb I agree with everything you did 3) I have an L5 that I’m (very) slowly restoring and it too is cat c and will never be worth anything to anyone but me. Thanks and glad you enjoyed it 😎 If you keep your eyes peeled they are about, the hardest part is weighing up the risk as this could have easily been head gasket failure etc.. thankfully not 😅 Agree, just need this cold weather to move on first!
I've just restored an old zx6r which was catD so I find this video series interesting. Among a lot of things, the front 6 pots were completely trashed so I had to do a complete rebuild including new pistons which cost. Was a hard pill to swallow for 6 pots As others say, don't cut any corners with braking or tyres. Even if you end up selling it at least you've got piece of mind that you've done correctly.

Cheap projects do come up in the UK, problem is it’s always a gamble as if the engine had been shot on this and a salvage marker on the frame I would have purchased a nice paper weight for £300 😅
My favourite bike zxr400 go on , we love it ❤ my 2 favourite bikes rs125 and zxr400s. Come on wack some pads in it she deserves it. Pistons will be okay. Wack mot on it and get it on the road.
u not going to replace or atleast clean up any rusty bolts? it ight end up looking great but beneath it has rusty items on it. not my style to restore like that. but i did enjoy the video!
The RS125 series has been like that, really going through everything 👍 The ZXR 400 has that grey cloud hovering above it with the salvage marker which is causing me to resent spending the time & money on it sadly
Those fairings you showed in the last video are wrong for this just so you know, they were for an l3 1993, you have an L9 (1999 but but already made ones were sold till as late as 2002), the fairings for this would have the pink swooshy decal on the back. The chinese fairings are "fine", but I would suggest having another coat or 2 of clear put on them when the tanks being done. I'd also recommend doing a leak down test still, ZXR's sh*t head gaskets for fun 😂 (I could tell you why but we'd be here all day lol) but the gaskets are still available from Kawasaki for £37 plus post and they don't tend to warp the head. Also the return cable on the throttle,,,, f**k it rite off lol the return spring on these carbs is VIOLENTLY strong and it was put on for "smoothness" without it it becomes way more "Because race bike" lol Anyway, I know a fair bit about these 😂 if you need any advice/direction just respond to this comment or the one I'll leave on the next vid inevitably 😂
Ummmmm, I just looked up the MOT history and it's down as Purple, I think I might know this bike, I hope I'm wrong, I genuinely do, but I would suggest putting an auxiliary tank on and riding it and loading up the gearbox. IF it's the bike I'm thinking of, you'll find out why.
I’d stick at it. You deffo seem to Be wanting big numbers of views but you won’t get that when compared to your car stuff, you just won’t. And you are more likely to loose views by starting projects and not finishing them. As people want to see things through. There is interest in 400’s. Maybe go look at the obsession engineering video that dropped last week on a zxr400 and see his subs/views as a baseline
The car views can be just as bad to be honest 😅 projects like the Aprilia RSV and RS125 have done really well but this doesn’t seem to be getting the reach sadly! Checked out Obsession engineerings ZXR400 video, getting decent views and he doesn’t really seem to show a lot of action time lapse stuff just very much “this is what I need to do” and then “it’s done” if that makes sense? Maybe I’m showing to much stuff and just need to jump through the tasks 🤷♂️
Nice one. I have a black and purple 2000 model. I think they look sexier than the green, however it’s all preference. I did a short compilation on my Channel👍🏻
Is there not a class in classic racing in the UK for that bike? Should be the perfect weapon in the small CC class to cut your teeth. I’m starting this year on an FXR600R 1994. Been on track with it a couple of times and had alot of fun. Use a Panigale V2 on track also. Different kind of fun but both have their upsides.

Well im really enjoying these videos shame the views are down maybe its just the time of the year maybe mate but looking forward to the next one remember chin up open a corona 😅
This time of years normally the best as weathers cold and every one has over spent at Christmas and having a chilled month in front of the tv 😅
Yep beer fixes everything 👍👍👍
Where did you order the radiator from please
Just on eBay 👍

Are the forks bent or just the camera angle?
Just the camera angle 😅👍
£300? That is insane. Here in California a bike like that would go for 2k to 3k. Bikes, even fixer uppers are obscenely overpriced.
Cheap projects do come up in the UK, problem is it’s always a gamble as if the engine had been shot on this and a salvage marker on the frame I would have purchased a nice paper weight for £300 😅
FYI obsession engineering channel currently rebuilding the same bike 😊
Another viewer has linked me to his series, I think his is in much better condition than mine (except the fuel tank 😅)
So glad longer video. Views are low because prob alot people on holidays or gone back to work been busy with kids. Don't take it to heart.
Glad to hear, some times worry if it’s too long people will loose interest..
Maybe, let’s see how the series does over the coming months and thanks 👍
Can’t really be rust from the cooling system cos it’s all aluminum 🤔
You would be surprised how many parts are steel, bolt threads, pump blades, sensor heads etc
My favourite bike zxr400 go on , we love it ❤ my 2 favourite bikes rs125 and zxr400s. Come on wack some pads in it she deserves it. Pistons will be okay. Wack mot on it and get it on the road.
Glad to hear 😎
Need to get the RS and ZXR400 on the road in the coming months to get some decent on board 👌
u not going to replace or atleast clean up any rusty bolts? it ight end up looking great but beneath it has rusty items on it. not my style to restore like that. but i did enjoy the video!
The RS125 series has been like that, really going through everything 👍
The ZXR 400 has that grey cloud hovering above it with the salvage marker which is causing me to resent spending the time & money on it sadly
We shall find out shortly if the gearbox is toast when I takin it to mot 😅 that will 100% be the end of the project if the gearbox is done lol…
👍👏👏🏍️👏👏👍
Nice one. I have a black and purple 2000 model. I think they look sexier than the green, however it’s all preference. I did a short compilation on my Channel👍🏻
This channel ! They are both my accounts.
There’s been a few comments and messages suggesting I go into racing it 😅👍
Could do a series on completes novices insight into racing series 🤔
Mot the bike and pass it on imo👍🏻
Very likely the case, always a shame not getting it to how I planned but guess that’s the nature of the beast sometimes
Just patch her up don’t go mad and it’ll make a nice cheap first bike for someone imho.
I think that’s the route the build will be going down 👍 let’s see how it does in the road review 😬
Shame about the views, loving the build and you can't loose for £300...
I can just never work out what’s going to do well 😅
Glad to hear your enjoying the build though, great to hear there is some love for what I’m doing 👍
not every bike is destined to be a star! maybe this is one you make good and move on
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head.. just gotta choose your battles some times! We shall see, will get MOT done and take it for a spin
I’m liking this build it’s a shame you don’t think your viewers arnt keen on seeing this progress. The acf50 trick is something I’m going to do now 👍😉👍
I’d like to see it turnt into a track bike. In The right hands these can seriously embarrass bigger more expensive bikes 😎
I shall be sampling some new products on the channel soon, watch this space with corrosion protection 😬
Would look awesome as a track bike too! Hmmmmm decision decisions
