  • DIY Idea on how to easily and safely load motorcycles into a pickup truck using a winch system.
    SUPPLIES:
    2 Steel Carabiners w/ Screw Lock
    amzn.to/3G2b6Px
    Solid, heavy clips.
    12" Soft Loop Tie Down Straps
    amzn.to/3FXZWeG
    Use these to secure the winch, and also to wrap around the bike forks to pull the bike up.
    900 lb. Capacity Hand Winch
    www.harborfreight.com/automot...
    The ratcheting handle on this particular winch gives you the clearance a full 360 crank doesn’t. The strap style is also much easier to work with than cables.
    Aluminum Loading Ramp
    amzn.to/3R0AFXu
    Light and easy to maneuver
    Pro Taper Tiedown Straps
    amzn.to/3MLJpxY
    These straps are nice and thick with a swiveling clip so they never get tangled. Grip better than other straps I’ve tried.

    Update: We’ve since also used this system to load wood stoves on dollys, which can weigh 500-1000lbs. The craigslist seller we brought one of the wood stoves from said “bring a crew”. Imagine his surprise when two women pulled up and had it loaded in

      New Rear windows were about $250 when I tried that. They only take an hour to get put in too.

    Currently building one for my harbor freight remote winch. Taking my bike to the Florida keys for new years and loading it in a lifted truck is problematic for a solo rider. Thanks for the idea!

    Love this! Thank you for the detailed explanation and inspiration. I'll be building one, with a small power winch.

    I couldn't understand how you kept the bar secured until I rewatched and you explained it at @1:00 - thank you, this is a solid idea. I've been meaning to do something like this for an indoor winch as we bring a couple motorcycles up a 14 ft ramp inside the house over the winter up here in Canada and this would be super handy

    Do you know how much load your trucks D rings support? I want do something like to help me load an off set smoker into the bed of my truck...I'm thinking my off set weighs about 600 pounds.

    • @stickwallfarm
      @stickwallfarm  3 роки тому

      Not sure. That being said, it seems like a lot of the weight gets distributed to the bar that pushes on the edge of the bed, because there's a kind of downward pull when the bikes are still on the ramp. Once the bikes peak and are flat on the truck, then it pulls more directly in line with the D-Rings. For what it's worth, we've also loaded wood stoves on furniture dollys this way, which I imagine might be similar to an off set smoker. A good fail safe may be having someone standing next to the ramp and moving chocks behind the wheels as it goes up. I would not have anyone standing right below it though, just in case.

    Its easier and faster to just push it up😂 even if you arnt strong enough just start it and put it in gear and walk it up and keep a finger on the front brake

      @stickwallfarm  4 роки тому +1

      Search UA-cam for "motorcycle load fails" and you'll find it's not always easier/faster for everyone to use the methods you suggest. There are a lot of factors to consider - balance, strength, etc. Do what works for you.

    Two people and you couldn't walk the bike ; / wtf

    • @stickwallfarm
      @stickwallfarm  5 років тому +5

      Fwaz Fj at our height and weight it’s hard and stressful to walk the bikes up. Why work harder when you can work smarter? If it’s easy for you, then you don’t need this.

    • @YouMotorcycle
      @YouMotorcycle 4 роки тому

      If you could make life easy for yourself and all it costs you is $20 for a hand winch and some hardware you had lying around anyway, why walk the bike?

      @@stickwallfarm If you’re too weak to roll your own bike up on the back of the truck then you probably shouldn’t ride or you women should look for a man to do all the actual manly stuff that you women fail at in life
