I love the Animated Show as the whole thing has such chemistry and has a mix of funny and seriousness. Probably one of the best/addictive shows I had seen. Pls hoping for a Season 2!!!
I’m glad the artists have been and behind the scenes people have been on because see how they talk about making the world of the Exandria work in animation especially because everyone who watched/listened would have their own versions of Whitestone in their head. And somehow every time I’ve seen a major location I’ve gone, “that doesn’t look like how I’d imagine… but it looks amazing”
I had the pleasure of running a fairly long lasting D&D game with a co-DM for a time, and Travis and Sam's description of writing the episode ALMOST reminded me of that experience. The main difference was that we proved to be excellent restraints to each other's excessiveness and foils to each other's plots... so things were always interesting, believable, and generally not "too much". (We will not speak of the undead giant squid.)
@@katarinaaguilar1936 Well, let me tell you a story of two DMs back in 3rd Edition D&D and their party of scrappy freedom fighters in a magical post-apocalyptic world. At one point our unlikely heroes were in a town, unsuspecting that the League of Necromancers that they had recently fallen afoul of had sent their greatest minion to slay them. And we made everything terrible... it attacked in the night while they were asleep, so many people were out of armor, and had stupid reach and attacks of opportunity, and TEN TENTACLES. In the first round it became amazingly clear that we were looking at an easy TPK, so the squid suddenly needed to use several tentacles to cling to the building, which also felt logical. Then, by good strategy and good rolls, the squid was very barely defeated... but we came very very close to just murdering them all in one fight because we'd created an inappropriate challenge and, that one time, had failed to check each other.

that's really interesting that they want to show Scanlan as being less powerful in Scanbo than he was at the time on stream, so he is using potions rather than casting spells. however, that makes a lot of sense as Scanlan's journey through the whole campaign is arguably the greatest of all. however, what about the other magic users looking less powerful? Keyleth and Pike both go saiyan in the briarwood arc, if not super saiyan!
We sort of see it when Keyleth is struggling with her spells in episodes 4 and I believe it’s 9, with the sunlight spell and cone of cold. She’s still learning, and part of it is a lack of confidence in herself. But she was raised in a society where Druidic magic is a major part of the culture, and she’s been trained in it from childhood. Pike is similar in that she showed a major affinity for divine magic at a relatively young age, but her power had been hindered by her beliefs and guilt. This major power spike is sort of a result of divine intervention and the fact that her spells are doubly effective against their current enemies, or so it seems. I might be proven wrong in the second season. Compare those two situations to Scanlan, who was never raised to use magic, nor did he have a temple or magical family to teach him how to use his magic. He just noticed one day that he could make shit happen by playing a song on a lute. He’s the least experienced in magic of all the casters (besides Vex, but her magic is almost imperceptible at this point in the show), and he is still trying to figure out the extent of his capabilities with nobody to guide him through it. So Keyleth and Pike will be noticeably more powerful since they have a much more advanced understanding of their powers and where it comes from, along with much more experience with regards to magic in general.
@@AshtonMonitor fair enough, but a 9th lvl lore bard like Scanlan in the Whitestone arc is not noticeably less powerful than the same level cleric or druid, especially as he gets magical secrets at 6th lvl and has access to more spells than other bards. i know this is not obvious watching the show! Sam played Scanlan too as a bard who didn't realise how his magic worked, it just seemed to be the overwhelming force of his charisma
@@rantdmc Scanlan seems to have been written as having as many spells available at that level, but he is actively learning them throughout that level instead of immediately on level-up, IMO. Which sort of makes sense, since lore bards learn their non-bard spells from outside sources from a roleplay perspective (such as translating a polymorph spell scroll into his music, or seeing an opponent use counterspell and simply adapting it for himself). It’s less that he’s actually less powerful in general, but he’s coming into that power over a period of time rather than in one giant burst like most casters do. Plus, many of his most-used bard spells are charms like friends or suggestion, which aren’t quite as useful in battle at this point since undead can’t be charmed.
@@AshtonMonitor I think it's also important to note that the two big magic moments had our protagonists empowered by external forces - Pike with the Everlight and Keyleth with the Sun Tree.

(But from Andy's later comment, I now understand what he was thinking.)
Scanlan turning into a Triceratops and fucking shit up was one of my favorite moments in these episodes. Seeing Pike return and being a badass is another.
Marisha saying "in the first season" about the scanbo thing, let's me know they have already started working on next seasons. Makes me excited.
Amazon paid for season 2 when they picked up the show, we’ve known about that one.
Reception has been basically unanimous praise, so we can only hope for more
They've been talking about their work on Season 2 for like a year now
Animation is like video game development. You don't wait until you've released one project before you get to work on the next.
regarding the skyscraper sized suntree, "well that kinda breaks the world a bit"
but matt, the world's already broken, delilah broke it for her and sylas

Can't wait for the last three episodes! Got my girlfriend to watch the show even though she hadn't watched the campaign, and she loves how rag-tag Vox Machina is. Hoping for a season 2!
Oh no this week are the last episodes? 😢
@@jotuthegamingguru8809 yeeeaaah. Well, I remember them saying it was a 12 episode season. If I'm wrong, then I apologize for the false sadness! If anything else, let's really enjoy these last three! :)

I 100% did not believe that they would continue doing Minus Eyes - that's commitment! These people are ridiculous and wonderful.
When?
@@avawooten3492 when did they say it in this? 57:00
When in the show? All through the Lucien fight at the end of campaign two (third to last episode, and second to last episode)
@@defenderbyname3484 i think they joked that it would become their new toast during 141 or the wrap up
In some circles it's a superstition to look into everyone's eyes while cheering a toast saying "eyes" so changing it to "minus eyes" due to their campaign isn't that far fetched
Travis and Mica talking about their love of otters, I cant help but agree with them!
Omg is there going to be an image boost for the characters as the story progresses? You know like those “level up” feeling changes/additions.
Well Grog's gonna get a beard at some point I know that much.
@@Greaseball01 I can’t wait for his and Vax’s beard shenanigans omg
@@Greaseball01 at least half of one….
All of them will get fancier and more powerful weapons. And Vax will get a new set of armour with a feathery cloak. It's safe to say there'll be some look changes.
Considering that the scale of the story is only going to get bigger, I think it's fairly likely that everyone is going to get more shiny items and clothes as the seasons go on.
4 minutes in and i already die laughing
"I go on Laura´s Island and move stuff around. . . . And then my life is in danger"
Heh...I'm in danger!
Sam writing Scanbo explains A LOT with the poop scene being included. 😅
I fucking loved the Scanbo bit so much its almost exactly how i imagined it to be and fuckin how epic is percy in the show
I love so much about these three episodes and it was also really nice to see Sylas and Delilah's backstory, and the opening of ep 7 setting up Anders character and background, really excellent job building these villains up over such a tight season, I actually sympathised with them quite a bit and that's the mark of great villain writing so bravo.
Pike's return from the sky made yell out YES! So far my favorite single moment. After finishing the episode I watched it many more times. :)
I really want to see the "Directors Cut" edition of Scanbo where everything Travis and Sam wrote originally gets animated. Just a chaotic several hours of Scanlan scatting around a mansion and pissing Vedmire off even more
"Sometimes evil don't wait 8 hours" lmfaoooo
Evil doesn't long rest.

And that's the reason you sometimes have to temper with temporal crystals from time to time even if there's a high chance of catapulting you 24 hours ahead (I'm looking at you Essek and Caleb)
Every single crew member on this show has been so amazing. I cannot imagine what the people who we haven't seen are like! They deserve the world for giving so much to this little project. We Critters love you so much.
Arthur’s favourite game-to-show moment that he can’t talk about because it hasn’t happened yet... Methinks that might be a certain reveal involving a certain black smoke...
Either that or Scanlan’s gun toss.
I love how they're still doing "Minus eyes" as their cheers. Big throw back to Campaign 2 XD
21:50 Too be fair to Laura, every Sims player did that too. What is it about The Sims that just brings out the twisted side of us all 😂

Arthur’s commentary was so interesting. The studio really did a great job on the show.
I just want to thank the cast and crew for this series and Critical Role in general. The final 3 episodes air very close to my birthday, and I have to say this has been the best bday gift ever. 🙂

I love the Animated Show as the whole thing has such chemistry and has a mix of funny and seriousness.
Probably one of the best/addictive shows I had seen. Pls hoping for a Season 2!!!
Season 2 was already confirmed when Amazon picked it up, and is in the works, we just don't know when it'll air yet. :)
I love Mica so much. She's adorable and a perfect addition to the Critter Army. Hope she returns in C3, or C2 oneshots, or both (please both)
Yeah, she's been awesome. I really enjoy her hosting style.
We are never gonna let Marisha live the Goldfish thing down, are we? 😂
NEVER! :)
Travis getting excited about otters was adorable. ☺️
I am afraid you’re now obligated to speak about the undead giant squid 😂
Yeah!! Cool undead giant squid!!! 😆🙌🏽🦑
Came here for the giant undead squid story. Was not disappointed. Have a good day sir.
Man, I really hope we get to see all arcs of campaign 1 in animation, and then move on to the M9. I can not overstate HOW MUCH I want to see that final battle in Cognouza in animation. Also, all the messed up shit in the Aeorian ruins, or the visions of Uk'otoa... and, of course, the cupcake scene.
Before we get that we have to see the tearjerker that will be scanlan's animated "level 9" during the finale.
Scanbo was the thing I was most excited about from the moment they said the briarwood arc would be animated.

Also, anytime the talk about it they specify "Season 1" like, they don't say "series". You prayers have been retroactively answered. Thank the Everlight!
When I saw ep 9 I was overjoyed to see Pike essentially throw out a suped up crusader's mantle
Pikes way of handling free will and dnd faith is just soo good. Just cause you are a cleric doesnt mean you cant be a wild child.
Biggest plot twist was Travis gushing about otters. Idk why but the way he says "I know!" was just so adorable and funny

It's interesting how they had to work on Everlight and Dawnfather to differentiate them, because the more familiar original names couldn't have been used due to copyright and the generic names and general portfolios may seem very similar.

Let's have Arthur on C3. I dig his vibe.
I love knowing that Marisha fully didn’t notice Vax’s crush on Keyleth. It took me my second watch through to see how long it was going on, but still I think it’s funny that so many people were clueless for so long. Not Laura though, she knows everything. “Secrets aren’t safe when Vex is around.”
Larkin is trapped in Laura's Sims basement

Just a friendly non assuming dwarf who is always willing to help the party.
@@_Foehammer An in-joke from campaign one. One of the party members failed to pay attention when the fate/true nature of an NPC was revealed and kept wondering about him into the next several sessions, so it became a thing. See also: Liam's shirt "Larkin Watch" in the last Q&A.

Okay. Travis with the Encanto reference…..dude. 🤣
that's really interesting that they want to show Scanlan as being less powerful in Scanbo than he was at the time on stream, so he is using potions rather than casting spells. however, that makes a lot of sense as Scanlan's journey through the whole campaign is arguably the greatest of all. however, what about the other magic users looking less powerful?
