      I hope we get to run again this year! Last year, the conditions weren't ideal, the salt was wet and the weather was breezy. In 2017, the salt was perfectly dry and the weather calm, ideal conditions! We learned some things and were able to go a little faster in 2018. Hope we get to run there again and have things go mostly right!

    Ralph, what kind of power is this thing pushing to the wheel? I know you cant reveal the exact number but a ballpark figure woyld be great. Bill did 311 in 1.5 miles on pavement with over 1000rwhp, youve hit 308 on salt which is incredible. I guess this a gixxer 1000, what model is it? TIA for your time Ralph!

    • @ralphhudson9128
      @ralphhudson9128  4 роки тому +3

      Hello Mark, not sure what kind of hp we had at altitude, but I think it was about 375 hp. The bike is an '05 GSXR 1000. Traction is the big problem, the salt was dry in 2017, wet in 2018. With dry salt, I think we could have gone faster......but, ya never know unless you actually do it! They cancelled Bolivia 2020 today. I was really looking forward to trying again, having made some changes, improvements, hopefully! :-)

    • @AbsoluteFidelity
      @AbsoluteFidelity 4 роки тому

      375hp? Wow, that is way lower than I expected! Yeah, the 05 - 07 seem like the weapon of choice for LSR and especially drag racing. But 375hp? Damn..... thats really low. I know you can do it Ralph, I see you breaking many records in years to come.

      @@ralphhudson9128 its a damn shame they canceled bolivia 2020. Was it because of covid19?

    • @ralphhudson9128
      @ralphhudson9128  4 роки тому

      @@AbsoluteFidelity , the bike did make 526 hp on the dyno, but, we run lower hp to (hopefully) make the engine last longer! I can always increase the boost, if it feels like we need more power. Looking at the data, the bike was spinning the wheel at redline. Rear wheel going about 30 mph faster than ground speed, so it didn't seem that more hp was what we needed.... I could be wrong.

    damn 304 mph on a crotch rocket? that is insane. people have tried to break 300 mph on their bikes before but those attempts have sadly ended in tragedy

    • @ralphhudson9128
      @ralphhudson9128  5 років тому

      It was a little crazy. Hope the salt is dry, with no wind next time. There is talk of another event in 2020, back on the salt in Bolivia. I plan to try again!

    • @derekwall200
      @derekwall200 5 років тому

      @@ralphhudson9128 really what speed do you plan to reach on your next run if you decide to try? what type of bike are you riding? why are speed record attempts made on salt flats instead of long cement tracks that stretch for 5-8 miles?

    • @ralphhudson9128
      @ralphhudson9128  5 років тому

      @@derekwall200 I think that natural surfaces are actually flatter than man made runways. There are specific rules on how much slope is allowable on a land speed track, to be considered for world records. I don't know of any runways that are 5-8 miles long, that are open to the public. There might be some military strips, I'm not really sure. The record runs are normally run in two directions and the speed is averaged for computing the record speed. So you probably need to have a 9 mile track, to have a 4 mile run up in each direction. There are events, like El Mirage, Loring, Mojave, that only run one direction. They are not considered to be world records. Those events only time the rider for 132 ft, world record attempts are timed over a mile or a kilometer and the average speed of two runs in opposite directions........... much more difficult. I'd like to go 312 mph, for two reasons. That is 500 kph and A fellow named Bill Warner, was clocked at 311.9 mph at Loring, on a 1.5 mile asphalt track. So even though it's not a world record, it is still the fastest speed recorded for a sit on motorcycle. My bike was clocked at 307 mph in Bolivia, for 1,000 ft, so it was getting close, but not quite there!

      @@ralphhudson9128 and this bike you're riding is that a suzuki GSXR-1000? what did you do to the engine to make it so fast? what kind of racing gear are you wearing and will it protect you if you wipe out at 300 mph?

    • @ralphhudson9128
      @ralphhudson9128  4 роки тому

      @@derekwall200, The engine is turbocharged, which is the primary reason it makes enough horsepower. The bodywork is also part of the key to getting good speed, it doesn't hurt that I'm not a big guy, either! :-)
