Comfort Women of Bahay na Pula

- Many of the women who appeared in this video have already died waiting in vain for a public apology from the Japanese Government. Let their voices be heard so these atrocities will never be repeated again. Please share this video. It is my hope that today's Japanese citizens realize what has been omitted from their school curriculum.
Comfort Women of Bahay na Pula, Mapanique, Pampangga, Philippines
If these walls have eyes and mouths, they would weep and wail of the horrifying and monstrous events that have occurred within these walls 50 years ago. These walls walls watched as the women wept, cowering among themselves as they fought their captors and took the blows that rendered them unconscious. These walls saw how their dignity was mutilated, how their young, frail bodies endured pain as they suffered under the Japanese soldiers who were also housed within these walls.
Testimonies:
PILAR GALANG
The experience I had during the Japanese war is something I will never forget. In the morning of November 23, 1944 we were awakened by many explosions. My father shouted for us to get down to the basement of our house. As we crouched in the basement, the explosions ceased but the Japanese barged into our home and found us hiding. They kicked my brother and tied up my father by the wrists. We were crying out to God to save us from this danger. We were then brought to the school…
ESTER BALINGIT
The Japanese soldiers took everything that they wanted. The soldiers forced me to go with them. My mother was screaming in protest, so the Japanesegot mad and kicked her. Then the soldiers brought me to the school…

We were all gathered in front of the schoolyard, under the heat of the sun. All women and girls, young and old. The children added to our burden. They were crying from hunger and thirst. We were begging for food and water. Sometimes the mothers gave carabao urine for their children to drink.
JANURARIA GALANG
When we came down from our houses, we saw the men with their hands tied up. Some were bleeding to death. We were brought here to this school. There used to be a very small school here. The machine gun was pointed towards the school. We witnessed the soldiers cutting the bodies of the men and forcing them to eat their own flesh. The captured men were tied to the posts of the school. After the soldiers got tired of torturing the men, they looted the houses. After they piled up the valuables into one spot, they burned the houses to ashes. The surroundings were blackened. After they were done burning down the houses, they turned the machine guns on us. We prayed, we thought it was our end. God must have heard us because they took away the machine gun. But then they pointed the machine gun to the men. All the men who were tied up were gunned down. After they have all died, their bodies were thrown into the school and burned. We women were crying for our male relatives and friends. We women were quietly praying. All of us villagers together, hungry, thirsty, it happened during this time, this same month.
BELEN CULALA
This is the tomb of all who were burned in the school. It’s a mass grave, all the ashes were collected and buried. Many light candles here because many individuals are buried together.
Forced Labor
JOVITRA DAVID
The women were forced to carry the valuables they looted. If we could not carry the load were were kicked and threatened by the Japanese. They kicked, pushed and shoved us to made us walk faster. We told them “We can no longer carry these, they are heavy!” They said “Go on! Carry it! If you don’t, we will kill you!” So even we were crawling, we went on. When we reached the red house, we then were separated.
VICTORIA DELA CRUZ
They forced us to bring the loot. I was carrying a sewing machine. My sister even lost a patch of her hair from the weight of the load upon her head.
Sexual violence
EMILIA DELA CRUZ
When it was nightfall, the Japanese did not allow us to leave. They closed the door upon us. In short, we were imprisoned, each room had women. I realized they had an evil plan for us. I was not menstruating then. I was 14. Because of my physical hardship and hunger, my body felt very weak and tired. I was awaken from my sleep when some men approached me. Naturally, at first I fought them, but I could not do anything. They did what they wanted to me. As I recall, there were 4 soldiers who raped me.

whenever i watch these videos, i just cry. i cry and cry while feeling the pain they went through, mahal na mahal ko po kayo mga lola. ☹️❤️🩹
There should be justice for comfort women with or without participation of the government.
This is the purpose of our video thesis, to immortalize the women’s testimonies, for the generations to come.
This is an interesting and useful video for my research in Japanese attrocities across Southeast Asia, and I appreciate the translated captions in the video
I'm glad it was helpful. The grandmothers have died without receiving an apology from the Japanese government, but if you pass on their testimony, their survival of that nightmare would not be in vain.
Januaria Galang,, proud apo here🥺
Kamusta na po si Lola? It was my honor to document your grandmother's story 23 years ago for our college thesis. I share this to all so that this will never happen again, and for all the Japanese who do not know the their true history because their history books never mention their atrocities. I am wishing you all peace and happiness. Be proud of your lola's strength and character.
Saying sorry is not enough but even that they did not give. It is so sad that our government has no balls to fight for our people. The foreign aids they gave were not commensurate to the damage they did to our country. The lives that they destroyed, the people they killed, the destruction of our infrastructure were far too great for them to deny. Their arrogance is abominable.
I've been doing research of my homeland since I didn't grew up in it and so never had a proper education... I hear and read our country being mentioned in those school history book but it's just once and nothing more...
Funny thing tho, I spent my childhood living in Bulacan and to know this house exist... I greatly hope it will be maintained. I once heard living beings are more scarier than ghost and it couldn't be more true. It would be perfect as a shrine to pay respect to the dead...I'm sure they will appreciate it.
Philippines is often depicted as a 'happy place' despite being a country with natural causes (flood) in media by foreigners (and also by us) but without actually acknowledging our past.
Our people has been through a lot but many things are so buried until someone decide to dig them up. Example of this is the 'human zoo' article published in WWF. Instead of having empty representation, someday, I hope this things, what those voiceless people has been through, will be acknowledged instead.
Thank you for your beautiful comment. The Philippines is still a paradise, the people are its greatest treasure. You can learn with greater depth on your own because the schools are generally superficial. The Bahay na Pula has been stripped of its walls by the owners with the intention of relocating or preserving the house. But internal family feuds brought the project to a standstill. The house mirrors the comfort women of Mapaniqui. They are still in limbo. Japan had acknowledged their plea but neither gave an apology nor compensation. Japan said they are not considered comfort women, but rather victims of a night of debauchery. Even if the Malaya Lolas will never get justice, it is the goal of our 1998 college thesis to propagate their stories long after the women and criminals turn to dust.
Thanks for the vid, very helpful for history class
Glad it was helpful!
GOD BLESS US ALL. THE TRUTHS WILL SET US FREE. MABUHAY. !!!!!
Please spread the Lolas' testimonies. Mabuhay.
@@abd12459 WHAT WE CAN DO IS EDUCATE THE CURRENT GENERATION OF JAPANESE REGARDING WHAT THE IMPERIAL GOVT DID... THE CURRENT GOVT DOESN'T EDUCATE THEM DUE TO THEIR PRIDE...BUT IN EDUCATING IT SHOULD NOT BE OUT OF HATRED BUT RATHER TO ENSURE THAT THEY WOULDN'T REPEAT THAT EVIL HISTORY
Pampanga govt should restore this house theirs a lot of history for the new generation the history of our people in the Philippines
The last I heard, descendants of the house and land are the ones who were arguing among each other, they are at a stale mate. Their in-fighting led to the rot of the house 🤷🏻♀️
Sila yung mnga living proof noong ksysyn
Grabiii yung trauma nila….
Hindi ko ma-imagine Yung 30 to 100 times of rape in one week, josko at Ang babata p Ng kinuha nila 12 to 14yrs old, nakakaawa tlga sila, pasalamat tlga Ako from my childhood a d up to now n may anak n din Ako na walang ganyan.
No justice has been delivered.
How cruel.
Grabe Ang mga cnapit nla s mga hapon
Grabe to nakakatrauma nakakagalut ginawa nila
It's actually the war of japanese thru American,s but why do Philippines had to suffer from it 😡now the China wants war with the U.S we don't need war anymore We as Filipino should be well respected we are not gadgets of wars ...especially women's should be taking cared of..children's suffered too men's were killed..So for those Leaders Don't let the Country be molested again🙏
Wala n ata ung bahay n un giba n.
☹️
this is so cruel.
Anung year Kaya Yan..
Let this video and testimonies be shown and heard to vice ganda and to anybody else that rape should not be made a joke.peace to all!
And No apology from Japan.
Just wanna ask when did this interview happened

Blame God, For all Evil Thing’s he allowed to happen in the World. 🥹
But karma exists. Now the elderly Japanese are dying at home all alone and they are not discovered until their apartment is soaked and reeking with their dissolved remains. I saw a documentary about a company who specializes in this sort of clean-up. Most of their dead have no decendants, but the few who do rarely care. Now they are dying off without the next generation to fill up their workforce. Meanwhile the Filipinos are making their mark all over the world. We are a blessed country and people.
It's not God who allowed evil things to happened but the mankind itself and just like lucifer who was once an angel and because of his pride he wants to take God's throne and you know that is not God's will but Lucifer himself so everything that happened is not always God's will so don't blame God in every bad things that happened in this world but this cruel world.
