It absolutely cracks me up how hard it is to find Buffalo trace in other states. It’s stocked 5-7 bottles deep at every single store I’ve ever been in here in Oregon

This shit sucks and is the single worst part of the bourbon community in my opinion. By closing time that clerk has seen 15 guys doing the same thing as you, he doesn't really need to give you a hug on the way in and out.
Lol... That bottle is such a gimmick. Jefferson has terrible distillate. Everything I've tried from them has tasted grainy and young which I don't understand since they've been in the game for so long
I have 3 Ocean's open right now. One of them is fantastic and the other two are garbage. So, it's definitely a marketing gimmick but also some of them are good whiskey.
I will say, the JO you held up was cask strength. In VA, that is an allocated item and we almost never see it. I think it is a bit rare and certainly going to be a different flavor profile.
I work in a tobacco stores and work atleast one 12 our shift from 9-9 a week. Never once acted like some of those people in liquor stores, sometimes we get an aggressive customer and shoots our moods down for a little. But never been unwelcome or rude to customers like that, I also love the respect you give others. It’s something I admire you for TJ. Keep doing what you’re doing, more of us should be more like you.
I get Knob 9 for under $35 in my area - Houston. Love the peanut butter flavor. And I’m generally not a Beam fan…. Love the channel man. And do more hunts!

@chupacabra I personally like the Smooth Ambler Contradiction Bourbon, the Contradiction Rye, and the Old Scout. The Old Scout Single Barrel is not bad, definitely unique. My friend was more fond of it than I was. He loved it. I haven't had their Old Scout Port Cask Finished or any of their Founders CSS yet. But they've been doing good work with what they've done so far.
That Armagnac comment should be vs Cognac not Scotch. Cognac is super expensive compared to Armagnac but they are brandies not Scotchies. :) still a cool idea to mature in Weller barrels but $300 kills the “cheaper” argument LOL
I can’t remember from your videos but if you like the higher proof, you should try the KC9 Single Barrel Selects, they are 120 proof. They can be store picks but Beam also picks them as a standard release. In my opinion, it is much better than the standard KC9.
You should pick up a Starlight, they do a lot of interesting things. Surprised to see so many of them outside of Indiana. Same of the Spirits of French Lick Lee W Sinclair!
Lol I live in WI too and I have found a ton of places with pretty bad prices. 60 for BT is very common, anything allocated 2x MSRP etc. Still lots of stores selling at MSRP but the price gouging is getting more and more common. Nothing compared to MN though lol 😂
@@waggs9588 this can be true, mainly in small town liquor stores. I'm usually looking in Madison and Milwaukee and I've found the prices to be closer to MSRP for most things. When they are not it's not to the levels in seeing in these videos. I've been to Kentucky and I've found similar pricing to these videos in smaller liquor stores. Usually more reasonable at TW and Liquor Barn there. Justin's also had some silly prices. San Francisco and New York City, in the heart of those cities had some silly prices too.

I wish I would have known you were coming to Tupelo. I live right outside of town. North Mississippi has a lot of cool places to hunt, but it is a little more spread out. We get a lot of barrel picks and store picks. I will be going by Tupelo Wine & Spirits next week. I love when a store is willing to open a bottle to give you a taste.

First guy talking about the state marking up the 9 year purple top is full of it, my local store in Jackson got their pick in and sold it for $298. 1 bottle per person and it sold out in a few days, but I know they aren’t selling anything at a loss. I support free market capitalism, but don’t try and push the greed off as a state issue!

I get that it's still coming from Brown Forman. I don't know if the metal top isn't sealing as well or if it's a "lesser" version of the same distillate, but I have one of each open on my bar and I promise you the older one tastes very similar but the viscosity and complexity of the old one is better.
@@Brewzle lol, maybe Brown Foreman intentuonally sabotaged Sazerac with inferior barrels. I don't have one to compare it with but I do recall the black cap being a little better than the current bottle
Some people say that, but I just do not believe it. You can side-by-side taste the black top bottles with a new release bottle and the difference is drastic. The old bottles were a steal at $25. I don't care for the new bottle juice, regardless of price.
You missed out on the Orange Dettling’s. I’m biased as I like the Green a lot (although it is a bit low proof for my taste) and the Brown is good but just to hot. The orange is the perfect middle ground. I will say that they are a bit inconsistent and one batch was much better than the other of the 2 bottles Ive bought.
Come to Michigan, in Grand Rapids you can get anything and there are many many many many specialty and mega liquor stores, Its crazy to see there’s so much prohibition type state control bs I never would have imagined this ever
I see you mention not loving the brown label Dettling or the green.... But your video visiting Dettling seemed to conflict with that. Which Dettling would you suggest for someone from Alabama wanting an Alabama bourbon?
I feel like that is the liquor store density in most cities. We do this in every city we go to and also in our home town of Knoxville at least 4 times a year.
If you like cask strength and a great mouth feel, pick up a bottle of the Ragged Branch Cowboy Cut, one of the best I have had, drinks lower then the proof and almost a bourbon cream mouthfeel.
Great episode man! Tupelo is my home town and I typically stay away from La Vino's bc of the markups. Next time you're in the area try Henry's wine and liquor. If I'm not shopping at Oscar's I'm shopping there. Keep the great content coming and stay safe!
Interesting that I always though that in MI high prices, but looks like Mississippi prices on majority of whiskers even higher ;-) So some bottles actually way lower , such as Old Ezra BP. Here is about $70, but Old Times in MI around $27. ;-) Cheers. Good thing that they have a lots of varieties of not allocated whiskies that pretty hard to find.
You mentioned you're from Opelika, have you had Black Patch bourbon from Madison/Huntsville? It's to my understanding they do 2 years in a big barrel then port it over to smaller barrels for the last year to get more surface area. They say it gives a 5-7 year flavor in 3, and I'm inclined to believe it's quite good. Very heavy on the caramel flavor.
I know you're a bourbon guy, but I saw some hibiki harmony in at least one of those stores, and I just want to find one of those for under 150 bucks. It's 250 bucks or nothing where I'm at, but I've been wanting to get one of those
I live about 45 minutes from Ragged Branch. I really enjoy their Rye BIB and Double Oaked Wheat. I think their other stuff is also good but not mind blowing.

There are stores in Northern Indiana with 5-10 cases at a time
Sazerac the company switched distributors so hopefully buffalo trace products are much more common everywhere

I’ve got a new whiskey coming out soon that has traveled on a ship while having Metallica pumped into the barrel and it has a purple horse top.

Have you tried swilled dog? It's out of West Virginia. I have a store pick. They donate to several different dog rescues.

Early Times is still using the same distillate from Brown Foreman. You can tell by the DSP codes on the back of the bottle

Ragged Branch double oak wheated bourbon is very tasty.
Interesting that I always though that in MI high prices, but looks like Mississippi prices on majority of whiskers even higher ;-) So some bottles actually way lower , such as Old Ezra BP. Here is about $70, but Old Times in MI around $27. ;-) Cheers. Good thing that they have a lots of varieties of not allocated whiskies that pretty hard to find.

You mentioned you're from Opelika, have you had Black Patch bourbon from Madison/Huntsville?
It's to my understanding they do 2 years in a big barrel then port it over to smaller barrels for the last year to get more surface area. They say it gives a 5-7 year flavor in 3, and I'm inclined to believe it's quite good. Very heavy on the caramel flavor.
I think you should have grabbed that Old Ezra 7 Rye. That one won't be around much longer IMO.

I know you're a bourbon guy, but I saw some hibiki harmony in at least one of those stores, and I just want to find one of those for under 150 bucks. It's 250 bucks or nothing where I'm at, but I've been wanting to get one of those

I live about 45 minutes from Ragged Branch. I really enjoy their Rye BIB and Double Oaked Wheat. I think their other stuff is also good but not mind blowing.
