You mention and show milkweeds fairly frequently so I wish you would mention just how much monarch butterflies need them for food on their migrations. They've been almost eliminated in the Mid-West thanks to industrial agricultural that leaves no natural vegetation. You run across them fairly requently, at least in the Western states and in Mexico. Anyway, great educational videos and I thank you for them. The huge monarch aggtregations that used to accumulate in that special section of Mexico is almost devoid of Monarchs these days, mainly for lack of milkweeds in the U.S. as they try to make it to Canada and (their offspring) on their way back.

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MUSHROOMS IN NORTH AMERICA check out Mushrooms Demystified by David Arora as it teaches you the defining characteristics and then gives you a flow chart like if gills skip to question 3 if it doesn't have gills, skip to question 18 ect. until it gets to some similar ones that you need to read the descriptions with finer details to determine what it is. It is a great book for finding the general area but only has color pictures of the more popular or edible mushrooms so I suggest combining it with the Audubon Society Field Guide to Mushrooms as it has the highest quantity of color photographs of many more mushrooms but doesn't have a flow chart, great descriptions, lists of common mushrooms that you may mistake a particular mushroom for or recipes. It is still necessary when you look one up in Mushrooms Demystified to then look it up in the Audubon Society Field Guide to compare the pictures and descriptions even if the first one has a color photo. From looking at that I would guess that mushroom is a Suillus Granulatus that is a bit dry. They often grow next to pines after it rains and that brown spore print, yellow pores and brown splotchy top that easily bruises is characteristic of them. One easy way to tell the difference is how slimy the top is, If it is slippery without being soaked completely then it is most likely a Suillus, I'' guessing it rained there 7-10 days ago. Hope to see more mushroom info snuck into these videos, maybe also get some standard field guides so you can identify the animals and insects as well and even if you can't if you can get a good enough view of ot we can start leaving comments like "Suillus Granulatus15:15" and you could pin those to the top of the comments and together we could do an informal survey.

How the hell do you remember all the Latin and common names of all the plants you see? You're amazing Tony! Love your Chicago accent too, feels homey. Like the ruler tat on your finger, great for scale. You're a thoughtful kinda guy.

I know this is like most of a year late, but the white bits on top of an amanita are usually called a veil remnant, amanitas sprout from little egg-looking things that are covered with a veil that breaks as the mushroom expands, and some bits stay on the cap and dry out into those little white spots. And not all basidiomycetes are the stem/cap configuration, there are stinkhorns, earth stars, some bracket fungi and others. Basidiomycete refers to the structure that produces the spores, in basidiomycota, the spores grow on the end of a basidium, which is a club-like structure on the mushroom gills, as opposed to ascomycete which develops spores in an ascus, which is a sac in the tissue of fungus which has that sort of spongy looking stuff under the cap instead of gills, like a boletus

"Lacinate" means "torn", not "fringed". Same etymology as "laceration", an injury caused by the tearing of flesh. The botanical Latin term for "fringed" is "fimbrate".

Umbel is from Latin, and relates to the word for the round ornament on the Legionaire's shield, (which helped attach the hand grip and was also useful for smashing an opponent's face) and in English we more frequently use another derived word: umbilical, pertaining to the belly button. All talking about that dome shape. So, finkalo below, if you take a Latin class, you'll learn a lot of English, besides setting yourself up to have an easier time learning Spanish and botany.

You should look up Asclepias latifolia. It’s a gorgeous milkweed that grows here in the grassland desert areas of the northern Chihuahuan (NM) I’m starting some from seed. They attract pollinators, especially Tarantula Hawks!
