  • Natural looking motion blur, huge FOV for stabilization cropping, no props in view, and more

    A Gyroflow + Thumb Pro video would be great. Thanks Ryan

    Big reasons for not carrying action camera.. Durability and weight.. Most of us are not doing professional work and honestly don't need it.. for professional work you definitely need a separate camera.

    All true. And a great summary. That said, 95% of the time I don't fly to shoot video, so I don't use an action cam, but still want to review my footage at times. Also, I prefer to fly with props out of view.

    My friend and I had a similar argument/debate as this with a couple of DJI fan boys in our local group. Also fyi, nd8 is equivalent to a reduction of 3 fstops, nd16 is 4 fstops and nd32 is 5 fstops

    Runcam Thumb Pro, such an under rated camera, been using this one for a while, gyroflow works great defiantly have auto record enabled, the only thing I have found with this camera, the record button is a bit dodgy, I have to make sure stops recording after the flight and it some times takes a couple of pushes, as if you don't stop the recording before pulling the battery the recording will become corrupt.

    I also prefer the simplicity of auto start recording

    Very informative for non video guys. Will you make a video processing / management tutorial?
    I always found the time in front of the pc needed to get a good looking video is huge.

    I had to rewatch the video a second time to actually understand it, because the first time I was just watching the footage with my jaw dropped.

    Looks like a nice compact setup. Still have my old heavy gopros. I've looked into it a little bit, just on the fence if it's worth putting videos out. For those that do, I can definitely feel the weight difference. Definite compromises to get good video and great flight performance at the same time

    I have the original 1080p thumb and I'm glad I didn't get the first version of the Pro. For the price, it sure looks damn good. REALLY looking forward to hearing more about that little red stack you got there oin the back ^_^ Always enjoy your videos, some dang fine flying there. Cheers!

    I usually don't intend to make a pretty video. I'm trying to share some amount of the feeling of flying that I had. I want the artifacting, shakes, and OSD in my video.
    All that said, you make excellent points for video meant to look professional.

    Great video, Ryan.
    Gyroflow recommends this (see Common Filming Tips & Issues chapter):
    A common rule in filmmaking is to use 180° shutter speed (i.e. twice the frame rate, e.g. 1/60 when shooting 30 fps). However that rule doesn't work when using any kind of digital stabilization.
    ... Using 90° or even 45° shutter will be much better choice if you want to use any post-stabilization.
    What is your experience?

    • @RyanQuellet
      @RyanQuellet  10 місяців тому

      I use very light stabilization. Default is 0.25 I think and I use 0.08 IIRC. I'll look into this further though, thanks. My guess is the less stabilization you use the closer you can get to the ideal 180deg shutter

      Gyroflow stabilization works better without motion blur.

    Sure a cheap action cam is nice for this use case but how about onboard dvr for the whooplite cams? Now the only option is walksnail or analog hd for decent recording on tiny whoops

    Pausing at 1:10, I can tell you that personally I 100% prefer the HDZero DVR image. I know a lot of people like the "more contrasty image", but all I see is crushed blacks making it hard to see anything that's going on there...
    Also, you call it "smooth" and "buttery", I call it "blurry" and "fuzzy".

    I got the thumb pro but for some reason it stopped working and runcam refused to replace the cam. That's why i will no longer buy anything from runcam again!
    I now have the Hawkeye thumb, it's cheaper with similar video quality
    I still would love onboard dvr recordings, it's just a nice feature.

  • @DriftaholiC
    @DriftaholiC 10 місяців тому +1

    The common misunderstanding about the 180 degree rule is that it only applies if you intend to play the footage back at 24fps. If you intend to play it back at the recorded fame rate then the proper shutter speed is always 1/50, which on fps higher then 50 becomes 360degree even if the camera allows you to select 1/50 at say 120fps recording. This is why so many people screw up videos with recorded and playback set above 24fps.
