  • No other vehicle has been so awaited by fans of the Land Rover brand as the new Defender. After the world premiere at the IAA in Frankfurt, I finally have the opportunity to drive the new Land Rover Defender myself. In Namibia real Off-Road-Driving waits for the new Land Rover Defender 110.
    During my almost 800 km long test drive in the Defender 110 D240 and Defender 110 P400, I show what the new Defender delivers off-road and on the road, what engines are available, what it cosumes and whether the new Defender is still a real Defender. Source: quickcarreview

    Great review - the best I've seen from the Namibia launch. I don't think Land Rover could please everyone with the new Defender - but I think LR have nailed it. If this vehicle proves to be reliable, it'll really put the LR Defender back on the map as a serious Land Cruiser competitor.

      Thanks! I really like the car but I completely understand why pure Defender Fans are not 100% convinced.
      But I think people should drive the car before he says that the new defender ist not a real defender. The only real downside is that if you drive in the middle of nowhere it will be hard to find technical support for the new defender at the moment. Greetings Lars

      @@quickcarreview You're welcome Lars. It was good to see an impartial/honest review of the new Defender from someone who clearly has some off-road driving experience and who really knows the original Land Rover. Also, though I'm guessing German is your native language, your review, in English, was far more articulate than most of the British reviewers..... One of which actually said: "Africa, what a country!".......... (a comment later edited out of Top Gear's video).....

    I see a car similar to the rest of modern cars. The old defender was repairable on the road with basic tools. The fact that many respectable journalists are overlooking this fact means that the new defender needs an army of engineers to be reliable off-road and THAT is why the landcruiser 70 series and maybe the new jimny are the only vehicles that may endure prolonged abuse out in the wild.

      For a quick trip off-road near cities and mechanic shops it's unstoppable.... Like most true offroaders.

    Love the review - thanks. What did you think of the p400 mild hybrid? Seems that no one is talking about it at all, but I would have thought with no start-stop and no starter motor etc, it should make for a very smooth and enjoyable driving experience. Especially compared to a rattle diesel which starts and stops at every traffic light!

    Someone on a 4x4 forum stated if you break down in the new Defender with it's 85 ECU's, no emergency towing service will touch the vehicle. Any thoughts?

    • @quickcarreview
      @quickcarreview  4 роки тому

      It is a modern car and it must fit all legal requirements. So towing should not be an issue. If some emergency service have concerns at the moment it may take a little but they will get used to. Any other options? Greetings Lars

    But, Defender could have/and should have met all needs. Air suspension. Only Autocar have raised the point regarding its durability. As we all know, if this fails the car STOPS COMPLETELY. Would you feel comfortable in Namibia alone in the car? No sure I would.

    at 10.34 you clearly see the limitation of a ifs and irs suspension. A tad bigger drop under the right front tire or a less experinced spotter and that so called off roader could easily have rolled. Sorry, but a true 4x4 truck have a frame and live axles for propper articulation. Further more this video did not show anything that could be considered as hard off roading. It was mostly corigated gravel roads that any modern suv is able to tackle and that van zyl pas might look intimidating for a beginner but reality is that with a good spotter it is not hard at all.
    The interior does look nice though, must give it that. Other than that? nothing.
    And also, how easy will it to put on protection for the rocker panels? and other skidplates for what that matter.

  • @BRIANSZA

    Van Zyl was an Afrikaner, not a Dutchman. Dutch origin but a southern African for over 300 years.

      Very good review, the best of the reviews I've watched. Well done. The vehicle seems great, only aspect not as good as my Defender 130, I think, is the articulation. I've done this trip 3 times over the last 12 years (the most recent being 2018) and it's a wonderful part of the world to visit.

    a very big engine cover for a very small engine! i wonder how that engine will handle a vehicle weight close to 3 tons and a trailer of, lets be modest, 1 ton? a lot of weight for a 2 litre engine! i'm talking reliability, not capability.

      i don't know. they did a few things with this new Defender that make me question if reliability and durability were seriously considered when they designed the vehicle.

    I personally think it's style over substance? Bit like those guys that pump their muscles up with Synthol, not nearly as strops they pretend to be!
    Why does so much kit have to be carried on the outside? Used a land cruiser in Africa for years and all the kit we ever needed fitted in the back.
    I think this is aimed at urban warriors,posing around in lifestyle statements of a life they aspire to but actually don't achieve? Just know they going to bore the shit out of you with their collection of totally unused camping kit,canoes,mountain bikes,wind surfers etc etc!

  • @Wilbargosh
    @Wilbargosh 4 роки тому

    Nobody gives a shit! Until they own landrover. They are unreliable and they do breakdown and you need to be able to fault find before it is towed to back to a workshop. In Australia, the Defender needs a 7yr warranty, free road side assistance and capped price servicing. Enough of the bullshit. Step up or piss off!
