Making his best friend, his future wife and her brother join him on an unautoriced space mission in an experimental spacecraft. Even if I gave him the benefit of the doubt meaning I assume he didn't know about cosmic radiation, me must have known that such a mission is really dangerous - especially without support from Nasa and with only one of them being trained as a pilot. But this is reality. These people have massive amounts of money and influence in the world. They invent things at the drop of a hat and can literally sway things to what they want. They are also not purely saintly characters so they can make mistakes with their philosophies. This is realistic and grounded which is Marvel's go to. Like the recent X-men stuff. It totally makes sense worldbuilding wise for it to be happening. What annoys me more is the lack of diversity of thinking, philosophies and care from individuals in the book due to these things taking place. Just cause the world's smartest and influential people do things doesn't mean others agree or don't fight or dissent.
Tony is the only one of those I consider a true hero. Xavier is a jerk now and has given up on his dream. Beast is practically insane. Hank Pym is Marvel's emotional punching bag. The Reed I grew up with was great. Everything got weird starting in the late 80s. It's kind of interesting: Golden Age (1938 - 1959) - Everyone sounds the same and everyone sounds perfectly pure and perfectly devoted to fighting evil. Silver Age (1960 - 1984) - Everyone starts finding things to complain about in life. Creep Age (1985 - Present) - Everyone stops being pure and everyone starts experimenting with evil. No more real heroes. I'm glad I was reading comics back when I did. They really were heroes back then.

Jimmy Stewart would be Reed Richards. Bert the cop would be the Thing. Donna Reed would be Sue Storm. The kid who played George Bailey as a youth, Robert J. Anderson, would be the human torch. Those actors with modern day directors and modern day filming techniques and special effects...that would be a movie people would line up around the block to see.

I don't know, some of these are kind of stretches (excuse the pun). He's definitely done messed up things but some of these are small scale compared to others.
All of these that aren’t from an alternate universe are not as bad as the creator of the list makes them out to be… except for the civil war stuff. That’s just the fault of horrible writing and mischaracterization.
It's almost like being designed to be a pastiche of the 60's man's man older gentleman scientist (those guys were everywhere. Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, War of the Worlds, Flash Gordon; to name some of the better ones) was a bad thing.
It isn’t a surprise that Reed practically invented a trope or two. Him being a Hero was sheer luck. How many times shit got started because Reed was too much of a moron to install a safety switch or, you know...not going around opening random dimensional portals and leaving it open for anyone to come through on the other side?

So imagine if a FF movie leaned into this instead of presenting him as bland... and if they had Doctor Doom who is almost a borderline hero (besides the taking over the world bit). It would be an interesting dynamic between hero and villain, and an interesting dynamic to explore between the FF. Shows like Breaking Bad prove that an audience can handle this kind of complexity, and FF definitely needs something as it tends to come across as generic in the movies.

How in the blazes do you tell your family. That the thing that gave you your super powers. Is slowly killing them and at that time he had no clue how or if it could be cured and even how long on had to live and if using your super powers could even lessen the time they have left. Until he had more concrete answers to those questions. Reed did the right thing. In keeping quiet. How do you explain an idea that would give the characters in big bang theory a headache trying to follow some of Reed's more far out their ideas. Back then in the 60's Sue had maybe a freshmen worth of local college. Sue was never written to be Reed's mental equal. That being said. I did like the way they reworte the fantastic four's orgin story in the year long heroes age. Franklin's pocket universe series. Sue doesn't have to be as smart as reed. Her invisible force powers are on a very high power level. Which makes among the ten of fifteen most powerful female superheroes in marvel.
So basically Reed Richard's is a character created on the pure idea of the pursuit or knowledge,disregarding the ramifications of what his pursuits might have. I gotta say there must be parable that sums up this type of way of living 🤔

I remember reading either masterwork fantastic four or the original secret wars where, if I’m remembering this correctly, Reed actually confesses he could figure out how to cure the thing if he tried. But instead he chose not to.
I would’ve put what he did in marvel zombies on the list. He studied the virus and saw it as evolution and secretly injected it into the other fantastic 4 members, and had them bite him, turning them all into zombies.
Yeah, between the Lee run, the Byrne run, the Waid run and the Hickman runs alone, there is SO much. Hell, the fact that nobody has ever thought "Maybe we should actually build DOom up and then have their final clash resemble 'Unthinkable'", but no they just cram him in the first film as part of their origin (WHY do they keep taking from Ultimate Fantastic Four) and then have him defeated at the end of the first film
From what i can tell it's mostly because Fox rushed those movies so they could keep the movie rights to the Fantastic 4. Since Fox is owned by Disney now, Marvel might finally get a shot to make a Fantastic 4 movie themselves, but if they do then only time will tell if it will be any good.

I'm personally in favour of Reed retconing himself. I mean, it is established that Reed is kept in check by his family right? So if Reed knows this, he has to realise it is a problem. It means that on his own, he isnt simply not a good person, he is a danger to all (example being The Maker). A good story would be Richards not altering reality, but himself in a crucible like event. I figure that would be a good story, that would be a positive change to the character.

Making his best friend, his future wife and her brother join him on an unautoriced space mission in an experimental spacecraft. Even if I gave him the benefit of the doubt meaning I assume he didn't know about cosmic radiation, me must have known that such a mission is really dangerous - especially without support from Nasa and with only one of them being trained as a pilot. The Reed I grew up with was great. Everything got weird starting in the late 80s. It's kind of interesting:
Golden Age (1938 - 1959) - Everyone sounds the same and everyone sounds perfectly pure and perfectly devoted to fighting evil.
Silver Age (1960 - 1984) - Everyone starts finding things to complain about in life.
Creep Age (1985 - Present) - Everyone stops being pure and everyone starts experimenting with evil. No more real heroes.

Those actors with modern day directors and modern day filming techniques and special effects...that would be a movie people would line up around the block to see.

So imagine if a FF movie leaned into this instead of presenting him as bland... and if they had Doctor Doom who is almost a borderline hero (besides the taking over the world bit). It would be an interesting dynamic between hero and villain, and an interesting dynamic to explore between the FF. Shows like Breaking Bad prove that an audience can handle this kind of complexity, and FF definitely needs something as it tends to come across as generic in the movies.

How in the blazes do you tell your family. That the thing that gave you your super powers. Is slowly killing them and at that time he had no clue how or if it could be cured and even how long on had to live and if using your super powers could even lessen the time they have left. Until he had more concrete answers to those questions. Reed did the right thing. In keeping quiet. How do you explain an idea that would give the characters in big bang theory a headache trying to follow some of Reed's more far out their ideas.
Back then in the 60's Sue had maybe a freshmen worth of local college. Sue was never written to be Reed's mental equal. That being said. I did like the way they reworte the fantastic four's orgin story in the year long heroes age. Franklin's pocket universe series. Sue doesn't have to be as smart as reed. Her invisible force powers are on a very high power level. Which makes among the ten of fifteen most powerful female superheroes in marvel.

I feel like in the current comics they should really bring up the previous abuse and show how they are actually working through it. Putting aside as if it never happened can be pretty detrimental if readers follow that kind of logic.

Yeah, between the Lee run, the Byrne run, the Waid run and the Hickman runs alone, there is SO much. Hell, the fact that nobody has ever thought "Maybe we should actually build DOom up and then have their final clash resemble 'Unthinkable'", but no they just cram him in the first film as part of their origin (WHY do they keep taking from Ultimate Fantastic Four) and then have him defeated at the end of the first film
From what i can tell it's mostly because Fox rushed those movies so they could keep the movie rights to the Fantastic 4. Since Fox is owned by Disney now, Marvel might finally get a shot to make a Fantastic 4 movie themselves, but if they do then only time will tell if it will be any good.

I mean, it is established that Reed is kept in check by his family right? So if Reed knows this, he has to realise it is a problem. It means that on his own, he isnt simply not a good person, he is a danger to all (example being The Maker).
A good story would be Richards not altering reality, but himself in a crucible like event.

After becoming a zombie himself he did also many bad things, but that was the hunger twisting his mind somewhat, while this first bad act was as himself totally normal making the world more doomed/taking away any chance of stopping the virus
