      There's just not much of a transition between the statements besides the emojis.

      As a non-christian I can only say 'Please Do not! You have no right to try to impose your beliefs on others unless they seek you out! In Britain we have 350 churches at imminent risk of closure. This is because people think critically these days and do not simply accept what they are told. We should not be accepting superstitions that being on the Dark Ages any more.

    "It is the work of Christ that provides rescuing grace to overcome the penalty of sin, but it is the life of Christ that provides the rescuing grace to overcome the power of sin." - Pastor Stephen Um
    That distinction between the work and life of Christ and the reality of our UNION with Christ Jesus, right here and right now. Powerful.

    Where's repentance in this? Where's being born again in this? Where's submission to the living God in this? I personally believe young people walk away when they leave school because they have lived and functioned by doctrines and church youth group programs and not been truly born again, born of the Spirit resulting in receiving new life on the inside in Christ and from Christ.

    In relation to the article this video is embedded in, it is not narcissism and self doubt that keeps us millinenials from becoming Christians. It is your philosophy of following a book/practice/belief/faith that says being gay is wrong or that other people who believe differently than you are wrong. Religion is by nature divisive. A lot of millinenials don't want to be part of something that segments people based on their beliefs or who they decide to lay with. History is riddled with war, pain, and suffering because of some ancient belief structure. I don't speak for all millinenials but the people I'm around just want to be a humanist and love everyone regardless of what a book from thousands of years ago instructs us to do.

      It's both. It's corporate narcissism to demand that God change because humans don't like what God says. Narcissism to think we can ourselves define that inclusivism and self-definition are more important moral imperatives than knowing and obeying God. You are right though, it is Christian morals and the Bible that most millennials reject. Gospel Coalition is too PC to admit that millennials hate the light because their ways are evil.
      I am one millennial who says let God be the truth and every man be liar (Romans 3:4). I come to the light because I seek the truth, while others refuse because their ways are evil (John 3:20-21). But we millennials are no different than any other group. You can always repent and find truth if you care to find it.

      @@IAmisMaster i am certain that narcissism has taken on a very specific and perhaps heightened form in this day that is both unhealthy and antithetical to God. yet, the idea that my generation is somehow solely narcissistic is strange and ahistorical. i mean, our country began with oppressed ppl fleeing here only to take other ppl's land, lives and resources. that's a pretty textbook case of collective narcissism, believing your concerns trump the livelihood of other ppl. narcissism has been a core and enduring principle of american society and i dont believe it's primarily tied to (present) youth culture. in fact i tend to believe God projects the conditions of our world through young ppl. i think older generations let themselves off the hook about many things on which they have failed and deflect so many problems in society at large and in the kingdom onto millennials.
      unprecedented scandal, lack of authenticity and the absence of demonstrations of the true power of God have turned millennials away from church. a church that has in many ways been tone deaf to pressing issues and non-responsive to the needs of a dying world have also turned ppl away. it's certainly written in the book that in the last days there would be a great turning away, but i also think this explanation is often overused to mask the failures of church leaders to reach sinners.

    Good discussion.
    1)Holiness wasn’t mentioned
    2)I reach millennials by not sugarcoating hell nor being cool. Like, Lacrae or Kirk Franklin, millennials know real Holiness from wannabe worldly Christians who still smoke weed and listen to trap music or obsess over Instagram
    3)We don’t change he gospel for an age group. Ever. There is a hunger for old fashioned straight up Godliness.
    Don’t believe me?
    Look at Billy Graham message comments.
    Or Gino Jennings message comments.
    Or David Wilkerson message comments.
    The problem with those trying to reach Millenials based on someone who does get through is focusing too much on Millenials. Christ said if HE be lifted up HE will draw all unto him. Not trends, or slide shows, or some hip hop song masked as Christianity from a failed rapper (trip, leacrae, it’s so corny to me)
    Sorry to sound kinda like. But you know as someone on the beautiful forefront I see the Holy Ghost working through speaking truth to a generation that are absolutely fed cotton candy “inclusive” hippy dippy “come as you are but remain as you are” nightclub neon light tatted up preachers.
    The Millenials, as I am one, want Holiness. Preach the whole counsel of God. And you will see the Lord win their souls. It’s Jesus Church. We are but his servants. He has 7000 that did not bow to Baal. Always remember that. God sends apostles and preachers, not man. Nor focus groups. Enjoyed this talk but more focus on holiness less on trends and studies. Holiness is truly timeless. Sons of Issachar knew the times but did not retrofit the message to accommodate to feelings for those who were rebelling against the Kingdom. Same for now. Keep it on Holiness. Not being dope or lit or awesome or any of those things. It makes Christians look wild lame haha like we want to be the world so bad we try to be cool. Kirk Franklin Would not be singing with David I guarantee you. More like Billy and Moses singing. Not Kirk. The church has become too trendy. Millys, we don’t like that.

      What do you mean by holiness?
      Holiness is not a culture/tradition, it's a state of heart that transforms the mind. Holiness is a consistent devotion to loving God above all and expressing that love through choosing His will, way and glory consistently and allowing Him to renew our minds as He molds us into His image through His word.
      In other words 'Holiness is submission to God and His will' not the evangelical church culture of passed generations.

    • @IAmisMaster
      @IAmisMaster 5 років тому +1

      Anna Frimpong Arhin
      Correct. Likewise, millennial culture is not only not equal to holiness, but is often actively against holiness. So to try to conform church to meet expectations of the majority of millennials is gospel suicide.

    • @annafrimpongarhin6771
      @annafrimpongarhin6771 5 років тому +15

      To take issue with when parts of our present culture that are expressions and celebration of sin are being embraced and propagated in the Christian church is important and necessary.
      The issue with the original comment is the fact that it insinuates that whole art forms (hip hop and contemporary gospel music) are innately sinful.
      That assumption is not biblical by any means. It is the heart, intent and message of the artist that makes the art holy, not how much it conforms to traditional evangelical norms. The idea that holiness has an aesthetic needs to stop. And that is why I stated that holiness is not a culture. Unless what is being said/done is encouraging/propagating sin, it not unholy or inherently "worldly" even if it's "trending" or "cool".
      If you find it corny, that is your prerogative, but it doesn't make it a compromise.
      The problem of youth ministries not preaching the gospel holistically is a real one, but the solution is not re-enforcing our church culture it is:
      •Understanding the implications of our faith and living out what we believe consistently (and transparently)
      • Knowing what the bible actually says (studying to show ourselves approved). And not upholding our Church culture without testing/contrasting it with the word of God
      • Being bold and consistent about the God we believe in and His word and preaching the Gospel holistically
      •Deciphering between "non-negotiables" and "gray areas" and treating them accordingly
      •Holistic discipleship
      And finally all this can only be done by God's grace and wisdom, simply bringing back old cultural norms is not the solution
      Grace anf peace🙏🏿

    • @Rachel-gr3pk
      @Rachel-gr3pk 3 роки тому +19

      Honestly, I was a self-proclaiming Christian who smoked weed daily for over 10 years. The deep conviction of the Holy Spirit is ultimately what made me stop, literally only 3 months ago. I still struggle with explaining to my family and friends why I stopped. I think it comes down to it 1 - being an idol in my life where I put more money, time, thought and energy into upkeeping this habit than I did into glorifying God and serving others. and 2 - We as disciples need to be alert and aware and not allow anything that Satan can use as a stronghold to sin. We are not fighting against flesh, but against the principalities of evil. It's not that I don't believe that I was saved or that I didn't love Jesus all those years, but I think that I came to a place in my life where the Holy Spirit told me it was time to move on and move to the next level in obedience. That's my thoughts and convictions, overall, talk to God about it and see what His will is for your life. God bless you.

    • @Rachel-gr3pk
      @Rachel-gr3pk 3 роки тому +11

      Oh another thought - when I seek for some other thing to satisfy me in a way that only God can satisfy me, I run into problems. The things that satisfy in this life are always temporary and never deeply satisfying. I think God wants us to learn how to seek Him for ALL of our needs, our need for peace, relaxation, for creative inspiration, and for community. I tried to seek all of these things through marijuana, and yes, they do satisfy to some degree, but deep down I knew that these were only 'surface' satisfactions. God is continually trying to show me that He does provide a deep soul satisfaction that does not fade.

      @@christopherwalsh3101 Oh for sure, I know He did. I'm not saying to condemn or avoid or put down people who smoke or drink or even use other drugs. I think it's important to consider why and how we choose to use it. Is it in moderation? Is it to satisfy our flesh? Does it bring glory to our Creator? Does it cause others to stumble? Romans 14:22a,23 (He was talking about eating - so maybe I'm off base a little, but I think it's a decent comparison, because it's about what we put into our body) "You may believe there's nothing wrong with what you are doing, but keep it between yourself and God....But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning." I think it's important that we don't try to justify something for the sake of our flesh, what we desire for our pleasure. We should do all things for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 "So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." No condemnation, because of my lifestyle over the past 10 years, nearly all of the people close to me who I love dearly smoke weed. I live in Colorado. In my obedience to the Holy Spirit's prompting in my life, I have submitted to God and stopped smoking. But this doesn't mean that I am rejecting those around me for I am called to love and not to judge.
