Karl Dyke the only reason I know this is because one of my teachers sings it to me every day because my name is Jamie even worse its Jamie Murray so I get loads of nicknames

I named my first son Jamie after this cartoon, lol, I fell to sleep watching it when I was a kid, and had a fantastic dream that I went on an adventure with the kid Jamie. Then years later I still had good memories of that dream and the cartoon. And so Jamie got his name.
I was born in the late 70's, my older brother was the olny child in the village with floppy long red hair called Jamie ... his friends call him Torch to this day because of this cartoon!
@@cheary7032I’m 49 and sending themes back and forth to a mate of mine (he’s 51). I sent this to him basically saying that the intro uses to totally blow me away as a kid. I almost didn’t want to see the rest if it. The whole atmosphere of those first few seconds are printed on my mind, great stuff!
The 70's was a great time to be a kid, no cares, hot summers & star wars! I loved this, great fun for me as I'm Jamie (but no touch!) You can't have everything!... :)
Born in 99 but boy am I glad mam had this in the VHS box, get chills of nostalgia from that opening piano then it explodes into that psych funk rock beauty of a theme tune, I was born too late mate
Was my fave show and special as it's my earliest memory of a TV show (I am 49). Nostalgia overload. I remember in close succession my first ever cinema visit with my mum to see Watership Down. I utterly shat myself and cried all the way home cause the "bunnies" had been killed. Feel old but blessed ☺️
Forgive me for asking this but how old were you when you saw Watership Down? Because I was 4 years old when I watched it on video, I had watched Animals of Farthing Wood at age 2 so I was prepared for anything that was going to dish out but still I was terrified of the field covered in blood and the gassing and still am really.
In his later years Tony ran a pet shop in Belmont, near Sutton called Nutkins. I worked in a unit just behind the shop. I remember one day he managed to lock himself out and he was quite panicked as to what to do. I told him to look the other way and I managed to open the door to his great suprise! I told him to get a better lock after that. I remember his lovely parrot (I think it was a parrot!) which if memory serves me correctly was called Kiki. Even when my business moved away we used to buy our pet supplies from Tony until we moved house. He was a very warm hearted, genuine guy with an obvious passion for what he did.
Man! This was a favorite back in '78 if I can remember when I was only 5! I use torches heaps and life is an adventure at nearly 40 years of age! Bring back innocence!
@@chrisgoffe5048 them were the days Chris sat down Infront of the box after nursary chilled out watching the real cartoons ,dude us born back then had some shit hot cartoons on the telly ffs the shit my kids watch shit even my mum liked it 😂👍
Totally but in a fun way. The music overall sounds like something from one of the better 70s bands. And the basic story concept seems like something the Krofft Brothers might have done in live-action.
What a great childhood memory-surely one of the very best themes to a kids programme (Dogtanian and the Muskehounds had a very nice theme song too,a little later in the early 80s)
I remember when I bought season 1 of this on VHS back in the 90's for my niece🤥, the woman who served me, she was about my age, said: "I'm gonna have this theme tune playing in my head all day now" & I just said: " - not just all _day...!_ " 😉👍
I used to watch this and other shows on Nick Jr Classics when I was younger such as Chorlton and The Wheelies, Mr Benn, Astro Farm, The Wombles, Bagpuss, The Clangers, Trumpton and Chigley.
I think the very beginning of this intro: the moon, the dark street and the music is very creepy and atmospheric, then it goes funky. I wasn't born until the mid 80's but I love all these old shows that were around before I was born.
Jo Kemp wrote the first series of JATMT and CATW - She is my mum and we have been working together on a new channel called BoodleBobs. Much of the same humour and narrated by Jo herself. Thanks cartoonintros for posting this video
Awesome!- Reminds me of my childhood and running home from school for this, I loved the them tune! Now /i dedicate it to the guy I work with called 'Jamie'! lol!
This cartoon nearly broke my flippin neck!!! I remember one night wondering if I could dive into my bedroom floor... I did everything right :( Shined ma torch on the floor, and dived head first into it.
I ❤️ this. Still remember the song. I have life long Narcolepsy ( find out in my 20s) but had bad night terrors as a kid and remember watching Jamie wishing my nights were like his. Looking back it gave me hope that not all nights were bad. I now wonder if the maker of it had a sleep disorder or had taken a heap of LSD 🤪
oli19 Me 2, I was 5 and in a towering temper because it didn't open a magic portal to cuckoo land. My temper was probably fueled by the lightsaber fiasco of the month b4. That was just a torch too. Later on that year I also stumbleupon truth about father christmas. i've never been the same again.
Absolute classic. Not like the S*** the put out now. Bring back Jamie and the Magic Torch anyday. Scares me to think I'm so old notice at 41 lol. Like watched that over 30 years ago ;-)

The best kids show theme tune ever. Every time I see this it takes me back to my childhood days oh the memories for a 44 year old bloke

Second best. In first place....rhubarb and custard.
43 years later and I'm STILL waiting for the movie with full backstory!

Man the 70's had all the best kids programmes...
every one of them a acid fueled gem!!!! :))))))
Listening to the theme again makes me quite tearful, takes me back to 1979 when I was just 10 years old and in the junior school, great days!

That's weird my brothers name is Jamie and his Nickname is torch

As a kid, I always thought the first 20secs of the intro was really haunting! It still makes the hairs on my arms stand-up at the age of 50.
I'm 52 in September. I am chuffed I found this , I loved it as a child.
first part of intro before the beat starts still gives me goose bumps to this day

its stunning it sets the mood that it is nighttime .
Every morning Jamie is absolutely fucking knackered! Falls asleep at school every day.
This cartoon has one of the best opening sequences ever! I love the melancholy music at the beginning - it sends a nostalgic shiver down my spine.
mg ,it takes me so many years back in old good times

It was an absolute fun while watching this in 1984...😍

Yes. That is a tear in my eye. Sweet memories.
This should appear on kids programmes today, as they would love it as much as we did.
fond memories! born in 72 grew up to this and classics like the Clangers and Bagpus.
love it......brought a smile to my face.... Jamie and the magic torch....
Just love educating young ones on these old series; -)
My fondest memory of TV childhood, and i'm sooooo glad they managed to repeat this in the early 80s....!!!!! Thank You!!!
Loved the intro as a child.
Starts out so subdued and almost eerie, then goes all out loud and crazy.
I will never forget this title sequence, it's actually evocative of something. I don't know what.

If you want FUNK - check out the theme to ‘Saturday Banana’ ...

MY man... Joe 90. Now that's funky
I feel like a kid again, ahhh the memories.
This seems to be a motif for many kids TV shows, and literature. Ordinary objects like wardrobes, trees, or torches are portals to fantasy worlds.
Grew up getting this sung to me, superb!
One of the best intros. to a kids programme ever.
I loved watching this as a child. So good to be able to sing along to the intro again- though it's a good job no one can hear me!!!! 😜

This was by far the best kids programme. They should remake it into a film like they did with the magic roundabout.
