    As an actor myself, most actors DO NOT want intimacy co-ordinators, interfering with the job at hand and creating problems on set - it is a tiny faction, who frankly take an issue with everything, all the time, who want them. It's bad enough having to CONSTANTLY ask for consent to 'touch' people or even get 'close' to them while your working on the most basic of scenes. This is not to say people were not exploited or treat badly in the past - but creating a new paranoid, uncomfortable energy on set around any form of human contact, only inhibits creatvity and the best kind of work from being done.

    If they can make everything sexless, bland, safe and uninteresting, they will. Game of Thrones without those scenes would have been unremarkable as well. So would Ghost, Don't Look Now, Brokeback Mountain, Eyes Wide Shut, The Hunger, and a thousand other shows and movies. How I despise, that Hollywood is taken over by buttoned-up Puritans and Prudes. They, in effect, brought back the Hays Code, at the same time as they were inspired by mid-to-late century Eastern European-style indoctrination. It is intolerable!

    • @John-fk2ky
      @John-fk2ky 3 місяці тому +4

      I feel like you owe the actual puritans an apology. Frankly, everyone using the word should be smacked in the face because they’re using it wrong. The puritans, whether you like them or not, had an internally consistent series of views and beliefs. The people who you’re calling puritans do not. They might want to remove sex scenes in movies, but they also say sex work is real work and empowering (you could argue about the first, but it definitely isn’t the second).
      Things are also bland because they aren’t good writers. They don’t want good and bad. That means there’s some kind of standard to which their own behavior cm be compared. Get an actual Puritan to write a story, and you would at least have recognizable heroes and villains.

      @Norvik_-ug3ge 3 місяці тому

      @@John-fk2kyNo, they are not using it wrong (sic). By which I assume you mean 'using it incorrectly'. First off, people who object to seeing/having simulated sex in films covers a very wide range indeed of people and many of them would never want to legalise 'sex work'. Most feminists for example are adamantly opposed to that idea as are most women who are, across the western world, more in favour of censorship of sex and nudity than men are, as a group. Secondly your claim that puritans hold consistent views is hilarious, Puritans were a minority within a minority (Separatists) within the Church of England at a time of massive and fast paced religious change. Puritan has been used for hundreds to denote a mindset. The shoe fits here. Own it.

    They've been censoring more and more since season 7 of Game of Thrones, so that's nothing new. As long as the show continues with quality storytelling and acting I don't mind, but it is true that they've cut a lot when it comes to the shocking violence (the final scene in the first ep of the new season) and nude scenes compared to most of GOT. This is supposed to be a show for the mature audience and a core part of it was exactly this type of uncensored content that in GOT was a part of its core aesthetics, even more so in the books themselves.

    It's such a weird balance in that sometime in modern TV shows and movies we get Euphorias and Poor Things and then go into concept that are to be more open about sexuality and it's ultra pruddish. We are in a society where Onlyfans exist and yet there's also this "male gaze" bullcrap.
    But I have to agree with Olivia in the sense that nowadays in entertainment, sex scenes tend to be overly beautiful, polished and idealized and making it more animalistic would have been a good way to explore her character. Like stuck up Alicent would just "unleashes" in bed.

They leave the woman alive and able to run for help alerting the guards and kill the wrong baby. It's kinda silly. EDIT: Also I hate scenes where you have men on their knees eating women out. I don't always think it's necessary to have sex scenes in a film or show. If it doesn't add anything to the story, then there's no need to put it in. However, I don't think it's right for censorship rules to be placed so that no one could ever put it into the story. It should be up to the writer and/or the director to decide if they want to put it into the film/show. If Hollywood has it that they can just censor it at anytime, what's to stop them from censoring something else? I thought we abandoned the Hays Code for a reason.

Seeing sex on screen excites their own sexual response in the same way that a horror movie makes them scared or with a jump fright. In other words it is enjoyable in and of itself, it doesn't need to 'make the story better' because it IS the story, at that point in time. Dude, why the need to rain on other people's parade? 😬

    Copius amounts of sex was always just a flandarized aspect of asoiaf. Yes George wrote about characters who had alot of sex, but we didn't need to see it every other scene to understand it.

      ...So you're going to let the woke moral police make changes to the script to make that happen? Where have you been for the past decade? It never ever stops there. If a script writer wants a sex scene put in, they should put it in. If you and enough people want it out, THEY should be the ones convinced to do it on their own. Art should never be censored by third party bureaucracies. Never.

    Who cares? In an age where you have plenty of salacious and adult material you can get on the various adult oriented websites, why do you need such sex scenes in movies and TV? I understand, back when I was growing up ( I am 47), why having sex scenes would be enticing. That was the age, prior to the Internet, when such material was hard to find, and so you were obsessed with seeing movies like Basic Instinct or 9 and 1/2 weeks for the sex scenes. Nowadays, with a few simple keystrokes you have an endless array of explicit material at your finger tips. I would rather movie producers leave such scenes out of movies and TV. They are a needless digression from the story, and they are cringy to watch when you are viewing a film or show with someone else.

      Same age, roughly. Could not disagree more. Have watched tons of European narrative cinema drenched in gorgeous, gratuitous sex and nudity. Massively better for the films concerned and for me growing up without your hang-ups. I don't cringe. Porn is not art, is not narrative film or TV, and if that's all you ever got from a sex scene, then I feel sad for your lack of taste in viewing choices.

    • @alphacause
      @alphacause 3 місяці тому

      @@Norvik_-ug3ge Good storytelling requires that scenes contribute to how riveting the plot is and should add to the character development. It should move the story forward. If the scene does not do that, it is superfluous. How is showing a sex scene going to do that? Yes, if the film is directly about romance, maybe some scenes of intimacy are required. However, in most cases, with respect to mainstream American cinema and TV, sex scenes seem forced into a narrative simply for the purposes of titillation. Its prurient.

    Then I might actually watch. Since Game of Thrones and 90% of HBO crap tends to use sex as a gimmick and not a natural part of the narrative. So, maybe taking that out to focus on relevant story, might make the show better. I mean it was weird enough that Game of Thrones was supposed to be MIDDLE AGES Fantasy, yet they swore like Millennials playing Call of Duty. I mean it is one of the main things I HATE ABOUT MAJORITY OF HBO shows, they're edgy for edgy sake and it takes away from the story that they're trying to tell.

    Yeah I go back and forth. I think for me in Game of Thrones the violence was way more disturbing and made it harder for me to watch. I actually raged quit GoT after the Red Wedding. I came back after I matured a little a few years later and simply skipped the red wedding when it came up again. I did stop after the White Walkers took Hardhold. 1 because Zombies actually do freak me out and second. I heard the writing just sucked afterwards. House of the Dragon has been much more palatable for me and that's why I like House of the Dragon more. I do like that they're focusing on storytelling rather than gratuitous sex and violence but I think sex is actually much more healthy for you to watch than violence is. Then again seeing violence also shows the dark reality of why violence is bad. So I can see that perspective too. I think right now in our current culture. I think men and women need to be having more sex. There has been a really wedge that has been driven between men and women and I think for Millenials specifically, we really need to find love and have children. I think it would be so healthy for our world right now.
