My dad was a huge fan of comedy. If a TV show made him laugh, it got my attention. He was born in 1931, so he grew up loving some of the greats like Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Jackie Gleason, Milton Berle, etc. He also was a big Carson fan, and hence I became one too. My dad passed away last year. I miss him very much, but am grateful that he opened my eyes to some great comedy.
I had always thought Johnny had a thing going with Dyan after seeing those interviews. But this one sealed the deal. Its like Ed outed him from the start. And notice how Dyan causally touches him throughout the interview. A sure sign a girl is into you.
It's hard to believe DC was ever insecure about her beauty. She was a stunner for so many years, but she thought she'd be a bigger star if she were more beautiful somehow. Her looks were excellent of course but her personality was even brighter than her beauty--but she thought she needed surgery to improve her looks. That's sad.
That laugh is to release nervous tension. Shy, insecure folks often use laughter to calm themselves. Cannon, no doubt, spent years becoming more comfortable with herself.

I knew Dyan was a hottie boombalottie when I was a kid, but now, as an adult, watching some of her appearances on The Tonight Show, I see what an absolutely delightful woman she is.
As a child of the 80's, there's something nice and reassuring in watching Johnny take the stage. These were the sights and sounds of drifting off to sleep in the living room with mom, and they'll always stick with me. That said, I *loathe* Dyan Cannon's fake laugh and her whole deal, so this wasn't exactly the best episode of all time...
I was in total agreement with your comment and my likewise experience in the 1980's with this show until the Dyan Cannon comment as I have always found her a genuine class act with a infectious laugh that brings out an inner beauty that matches her outer.
Dyan Cannon is absolutely gorgeous. The hair, the outfit, the makeup. We need that kind of glamour back!
Mr. McMahon was terrific. He announced, sold products, gave props, demonstrated class, and was a war hero. I greatly miss him. Thanks for sharing.
This is where my dad grew up he watched Johnny Carson on this channel almost every night great memories
Me too. Very relatable, gifted and funny man😊

Bless him like so many others in his "raised on radio" generation. With today's overregulation, you just can't crack up the way you used to.
Life is crazy. Just watched Diane in an interview she is close to 90. Here she's talking about playing a 90 year old. 😢
I was fan of Johnny Carson and always found Dyan Cannon stunning and just a delightful person.

Dyan Cannon was always great fun with her infectious laugh. LOL!
1970 was a senior in high school. Johnny got me through hard times. Watching that show was like family for me.
LOVE the ticker going across the bottom about THE WAR between Hearns and Hagler
RIP Mr.Forte. You were a class act with a great attitude. A credit to the state of Connecticut
I love the way she says ‘Johnny ‘. It’s so cute. 🌹😘
Thanx so much, pannoni!

As it aired! Love it!
"The Big Chill" was Kevin Costner very first movie, but we didn't see him. He played the corps at the funeral.

damn. Dyan Cannon was born in 37 so she's almost 50 here.
She's a delight!
Nick "Apollo" Forte...hilarious!

The episode I'm looking for happened a day before this one! XD Do you have it, per chance?
So the only thing she took from the world's greatest scientist, was philosophy. 😆
I love Dyan Cannon but she seems to laugh out of thin air, at absolutely nothing, in this interview.
Did Tom and Dyan have a date that night
Listen, watcha gonna do:
Dere's too many goombas in da bonzo!!!!
Badabing, badabang, badaboom!!
I would say johnny did it
Did that?
Dyan Cannon was “cute like a diaper”
Dyan Cannon
Her laugh is kind of annoying after a while.
She's 85 now and looks nothing like that. 18:34.
What a stupid cooment
It would be better if she did.
Your point????😮

She always had a crush on him, and vice versa.

What a " phony " laugh. Never could see any interest in Dyan as a celeb.
