  • While on set with Tanner Saunders filming a scene for the feature film Lost Wilderness, I got some video on my GoPro of Billy the grizzly bear. He is a 3 year old professionally trained grizzly bear.
    You can find more info on Billy by going to his You Tube channel.
    Tanner Saunders has some stills of him and the bear on his Facebook page and feel free to tweet Tanner on Twitter @TannerSaunders and ask him what it was like filming with such and amazing animal like billy.

    No matter how tame he is. Its still a wild animal and can be unpredictable. Just don't know when he might want to play a little rough and hurt someone.

    Parents that allow scenes like this between their children and wild animals "trained or not" must be desperate for money, fame or something. The kid looked "thrilled," (not!) Jody Foster's mother did the same thing - with a very young Jody and a male lion - and she was mauled.

    All it takes is 6 or 7 seconds of a temper tantrum, or just a bad moment, but you do see the electrical fence, the hot wire, that's why he doesn't approach the crew, he's felt that shock before.

    • @robertapearson3507
      @robertapearson3507 5 років тому +1

      Patricktomlinson Tomlinson - if that bear really wanted to go, that electric wire is NOT going to stop it. Even if it has experienced the “shock”. Even regular old black bears will tear through barb-wire fencing, regular fencing, page-wire fencing, going full speed in a fit of fear or fury or ??? - with the fencing hanging of it while it charges through the neighbourhood! ! ! You think that grizzly would notice the momentary shock of an electric wire - even when “trained” to the shock it can deliver? I’m not so sure. So, to those people behind the “apparent” safety of the electric fence - - - have your bear spray IN HAND and pray to your God for protection. That bear IS a wild animal and is like a gun with a hair trigger. Not to be taken lightly!

    There's no way I will give this a thumbs-up! You cannot trust a bear-you cannot tame a bear-bear may be good for awhile and you will never know when "awhile is up for the bear!" You are risking lives here! Why take a chance with yr life-it is SO PRECIOUS !

    • @Hikergy16
      @Hikergy16 6 років тому +2

      Some bears aren't allowed back in the wilderness.. they would die.. In some cases, this is better for the bear and allows the bear some freedom, rather then a Zoo. Although the bear could potentially kill someone, as they have in the past, it's a risk many trained people take to get to know and learn the animal better. And Rhonda... TAKE A CHANCE with your life, it's a good way to live..
      Have a great day!

    As long as the stomach of the beast is full, it's ok, however, when it's starved, it's a different scenario...

    • @brjone
      @brjone 5 років тому +1

      Well, you're right, but also wrong. You're right that you don't want the animal to be "starved". In any case, starving the animal would just be cruel. But when working with the bear, or many other animals, you want them to be a little hungry. That way they respond to the trainers commands in order to get the treat. But when their stomach is full, they don't care about the treats and are more likely to rebel, or at least not pay attention. No, I'm not a wild animal trainer, but have trained a number of domestic animals and have done a lot of reading on the subject.

    • @rebeccalavoy6655
      @rebeccalavoy6655 5 років тому

      Dalmacio Wahayna...you are completely wrong. A beast can attack for many reasons. Illness that is undetected, the natural aging process and chemical changes within the body, the internal drive to mate and not being able to satisfy this primitive desire can bring on sudden changes and agitation, and discomfort or stress of any kind, no matter how seemingly innocent to the human eye. It can be an issue for the animal.

I saw that tape of the cousin of the trainer killed in 2 seconds, poor guy didn't stand a chance. Roy Horn too. these animals don't slice your juggle with a lucky shot. They are apex predators . Top of the food chain. We seem to forget that.

  • @jimtruscott5670

    Several of the comments on this video are right on. It is incredibly stupid to film this and make it available to the public. Any bear, no matter how trained, can turn on a human and mauler kill that person. Videos like this encourage naive people to think that bears are not dangerous. ANY bear is possibly dangerous and should be treated with caution, at least. After six black bear close encounters at my mountain cabin in Montana and two with grizzlies in remote areas of Montana I know a little about this.

    that is a bear.
    you are a fool.
    Bears are not dogs- in fact they are rather closely related to pigs if I'm not mistaken.
    grumpy, hungry, lazy but quick with the mood swings.
    Animals are victims of human perception.
    A tendency to 'see' animals in a way that makes it more convenient to human behavior- in this case, a film of some sort, very lucrative for the bear wrangler.
    but that there is probably a young bear.
    when he begins to behave as a normal, mature bear he'll be the one that ends up shot.

      You're not right. Bears are natural gluttons and gorge themselves every fall in preparation for hibernation. Their subcutaneous fat layer is typically several inches thick because, in the wild, they feed almost all day long as fall progresses. Then they fast for months during hibernation and quickly lose most of their fat layer.
