Monk is probably my favorite martial, so I have a few notes: "Monk weapon" is any weapon character is proficient with but doesn't have "heavy" or "two handed". The level 2 ability "step of the wind" is uhinged movement speed. I wish you would have showcased how far you can get in one turn with action dash, step of wind, strength elixir jumping. Bet you can get from Grove to blighted village. Yes open hand is the best mechanically. You didn't mention one of its best abilities at 6. Let's you add radiant, necrotic, or psychic to your unarmed strikes. Activate it in the passives bar. Tavern brawler and the staff from ethel are the key to four elements spells. They count as unarmed strikes. Karlach using a soul coin and fangs of the fire snake is SICK both in aesthetic and damage. Lastly but not Monk related. You can also steal the chest. If you leave without being seen all the gnolls will go into the cave for a great bottleneck.
I like these notes. Some I know, or if I neglected to mention like the Hand damage types its because I'm leaving it up to anyone who wants to play to see for them selves. I wanna see that Karlach soul coin thing. But I have to look more into her soul coin option in general. I'm also highly interested in the what you're saying here and on stream about the Ele spells. I'd LOVE to make it strong and show others how, too! Will investigate. Have no problem messing around more with Monk builds.
@gar-sen I mention the manifestation strikes (open hand 6) because it's rare to get a class ability that shows up on passive bar unactivated. Easy to overlook. And step of wind because it's kinda unintuiative that it's way more movement speed than the rogues ba dash (if you have high str) when you can jump 10m for the cost of 3m. The thing about fangs of the fire snake (1 ki point) it makes the hands and feet light on fire. Looks really cool 😎 💥
@@richardlandrum1966 Hmm. To be honest, maybe *I* undervalued Step of the Wind. I'll be using it more next monk I play. Good point on Open hand. I forget that I already KNOW about it and how to drag it to my action bar. Fire fangs is the coolest (hottest?) thing about Ele Monk.
@gar-sen according to stats cleric and druid are only two picked less than monk. But since you get 2 druids and a cleric to join the party, monk is the least used overall. Hence my desire to highlight how awesome they are. My first honor win was carried by an open hand monk and a throwzerker. Used step of wind to skip the courtyard and stairway fights (last 2 fights before brain) and gale to skip brain. Easy mode trophy collecting 😇
This channel is such a treat. I feel like every time I wake up there’s a new video talking about another aspect of the game I hadn’t even though of yet. Love the work!
These are the types videos I like. Yes any content creater can reveal the "Best OP Builds Ever" but no one shows any basic road map videos that get you in the right direction. Thank you for making this video! And as a lesser experienced BG3 player I'm looking forward to any class road map videos you may do in the future.
Yes! I appreciate your comment in turn, because I hear it a lot, but don't always SEE the interest in 'road map' or pointers on leveling. Some of the best fun is just MAKING it to the OP builds and theres a few ways to go about it. So, I think Monk is a excellent 2 for 1. Strong all game and evolves based on how you build it, AND helps you get your Act 2 or even 3 builds online so they can be super stars! Glad you enjoyed it. Check out the Throw-barian and before you know it I'll have another out. I try to rotate ideas for vids.
I totally agreed, ideas and variety is what makes gaming Awesome. And with BG3 + mods options are endless. I will definitely check out the Throw-barian. Thank you
@@Bam_Boozler Yeah, you get it. Wouldn't surprise me if you also enjoy having control over difficulty in games by indirect or subtle ways. Its one of my favorite things about certain games. Leveling HP in a Souls game is essentially a difficulty slider, etc.
Something to note for anyone who plans on having a monk in their party that isn't the party face, Karlach and Lae'zel are the best characters in the early game for Monks, due to the bonuses they can get, wheras Astarion is the best when you're in Act 3 (as usual) Karlach has her Soul Coin mechanic, which gives her the Infernal Fury buff, which gives her 1d4 Fire damage on attacks while she's either raging or under 25% health. HOWEVER, for some reason, she gains 2d4 Fire damage on unarmed attacks WITHOUT having to be raging OR under 25% health, meaning you just get a passive 2d4 fire damage for the whole day. Along with this, upgrading her heart twice (first time in the Grove, second time at Last Light Inn) she'll become immune to charming effects outright. This allows you to skip going to level 7 Monk, which gives Stillness of Mind. SoM makes it so whenever you're Frightened or Charmed, you use your action to remove the effect, which is something you CANNOT turn off. Lae'zel is great due to being a Githyanki, which gives her Enhanced Leap and Misty Step for free once per long rest (level 3 and 5 respectively), allowing for really strong movement options when needed. Astarion is just the best companion in the game by far, ESPECIALLY if you decide to let him become a Vampire Ascendant. If you do, he gains a 1d10 Necrotic Damage buff to ALL melee, bow, and unarmed attacks. Along with that, he still has his Happy buff, which gives a +1 to attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks, BUT he gains an enhanced bite when he's ascendant, which deals 6d6 Necrotic Damage, and heals for 6d6 as well. You also gain a short rest Gaseous Form ability that turns you into a cloud of bats, which can help a lot if you get stuck in a bad position.
@@deadeyexl8392 Yooo we are doing Karlach Hell Knight on the Stream. Wanted to know more about the soul coin quirks! Thanks for the info. Evil Astarion is crazy for a lot of stuff in Act 3! Spore Necro punching Monk is fun!
@@gar-sen Yeah, it's a very strong effect since it's double what the Gloves of Cinder and Sizzle do, meaning you can use it with Sparkle hands to deal Lightning and Fire damage at the same time, while also getting Advantage against constructs and armored enemies. You can ALSO get the Protecty Sparkswall armor so you get a +1 to AC and ALL saving throws while you have an armor charge. You could swap out Sparkle Hands for Belligerent Skies and put on Speedy Lightfeet so you can apply Reverberate to enemies since you'll always be dealing Lightning damage.
Laezel also keeps Longsword and med armor proficiency. Lvl 6 open hand using manifestation of soul ability, luminous armor, and phalar aluve, is the base for a monstrous reverb/radiant build.
