Dave Garofolo He's a really great and tight drummer but not really in the top 3 or anything. His technique is pretty bad sometimes and he has admitted that even himself (you can see that on his blast beats and on the double bass sometimes). No disrespect or anything, I love August Burns Red and I love Matt. I just tend to look up to drummers who are kinda more versatile and with more groove, like Gavin Harrison, Matt Halpern, Keith Carlock, Marco Minnemann, JP Bouvet and so on.
This or blacklist by exodus starts out dark with the intro and then the chugs start and flames shoot out and you enter from gorilla position with a damn sledgehammer
Back in my teens (Leveler era) I watched these videos and was afraid to see ABR live. They were my favorite band and I didn't want to be let down that bad. I finally saw them on the Rescue & Restore tour and was blown away. Jake sounded amazing! These videos do not do him justice at all. I've since seen them four times, and I plan on catching them each time they come through my area.
Yes actually. Slipknot, Stone Sour, Suicide Silence, Parkway Drive, Lamb of God and August Burns Red just to name a few. His screams were in no way varied, he cut out half of the vocals for breath which is only acceptable if someone in the band backs it up, and he could not sing in tune or rhythm.
Sam Whitehead oh. good to know you like shitty metalcore. we differ in music taste (abr and parkway are good, obviously) no reason to keep up the conversation, good bye friend :D
2:55 goes so hard I wish they’d repeat that line. They staccato pick that riff behind some vocals for a few bars before that, but when the vocals drop out and the guitars start chugging behind that lick it’s so good.
You can't really judge a screamers performance, or an entire band for that matter, based on a youtube video. Regardless of the quality of the video, it will never come close to the experience of watching a band like this live. I've seen them live at Warped Tour and I can assure everyone that JB's vocals are amazing and the bands overall performance is the most tight, technical, and clean I've seen. Moral of the story: Don't judge a bands preformance by a youtube video.
Saw these guys when Messengers was just released, went to see AILD and didn’t even know who ABR was but I was absolutely blown away. Been in love ever since!
I lol at all the people calling this "sloppy". They probably dont play an instrument and have no clue how hard this style of music is to play standing up let alone jumping around on the stage. This music take some serious STAMINA. its impressive they dont screw up more often.
***** Thanks for the insight man they are definitely my favorite band as well. I play alot of ABR and it took me like a month just to learn indonesia and barbarian perfectly i still dont know how brubaker comes up with these killer riffs lol. I need to see them again soon! \m/
That was amazing!! Might not have been note for note, but for as crazy and technical as this song is, it was phenomenal. The drummer was spot on. The guitarist was about 80% accurate but all of it was on time and relevant.
bro it dont hae to be100% imagine playing the song u played 1,000 times the exact same way , they improvise or change up a little but the core of rthe song never leaves .. so if u rate on 100% accuracy then dam thats just a shitty way to look at it lmao . i see improvising better than karoake accuracy
Matt looks like a lawyer, Brett looks like a cashier, and JB looks like a truck driver. You can tell Dustin and Jake play in a metal band. But that's what makes me love ABR.
Yes, they always remind me that you don't need to look metal in order to be metal af. In fact, it makes it look even more impressive, people don't expect you to play so well.
These guys are no doubt incredible to see live. I may not believe in the same values that they do, but they know how to keep on making kick-ass music and put on stunning performances. Love this band.
I saw them two times. They were never so bad like in this Impericon Videos. It is nothing against Impericon, i have a lot of merch from you guys. But I think the Sound Engineer is not the best, so please don't believe in this videos. Go check out ABR live, they are so much better (in particular Jakes Voice)
JacksonJangou The audio from the video lies, though. You're just hearing whats going into the mic. You're not hearing how it sounds live at the concert venue, coming out of the PA, as it naturally reverberates in the room. I've seen them live 7 times, and everytime Jake's voice sounds awesome.
I've seen them probably 6 or 7 times since 2008 or so, and I don't think he sounds bad at all live, but that might be because of the live mixing in the venue that kind of "hides" it if you will. I've always said Jake screams like shit and is gonna hurt himself eventually with the way he does his vocals. If you look at a band like Parkway Drive for instance, they sound insanely good live, but all the live videos don't make Winston sound like shit. I think Jake might be awful at vocals and we just can't tell live, or we don't care.
You can say there sloppy, but only if your a musician that attempts this kind of music. What they play is pretty damn good and everything is scored from their recording. Playing this live this well is truly amazing. Yes its still not perfect.. but still damn great!
You don't need to be able to do it as well as them to criticize their performance. We all know what it's supposed to sound like, so it's quite easy to tell if it's off.
This must be at the end of one of their tours, I know that after playing a ton of songs or at the end of a tour vocals can be shotty. I've seen them live about four or five times and I've been BLOWN AWAY every time, they always performed best. He must be having a shitty vocal day or not done his warm-ups enough.
I understand constructive criticism in any situation... But seriously, in this day in age, we should all be thankful we get to see these live shows for free online... In some cases it's also why bands don't make that much $$$... You used to have to get their DVDs to even get close to these stages... A live show is first of all LIVE meaning open for technical difficulties... It's the whole point of LIVE music... I dunno... Get at me... Impericon sounds amazing...
You try playing at their speed, intensity and the conditions they were in and see if you struggle... I'm not sure whether you have been on stage playing drums before but I have, and boy do you sweat because of adrenaline, nerves, temperature from the lights and what your actually playing but I agree, would've been incredible!!
These guys are some of those guys who don't look like they should be playing Metalcore, but are awesome anyways. Except the singer, he looks Metalcore.
***** I don't think he meant something like that. But most kinds of metal(core) - or music in general - have some kind of certain style concerning looks and clothes. But hey, I look like a folk singer and play metalcore anyway! :'D
I never meant to say you have to look a certain way. Nor did i say it affects the way they play. I'm talking about the stereotypical look or how people think they should look. And on that basis ABR doesn't look metalcore, neither does PWD, but both are great bands.
When I'm in the car going nuts, I can't get more than two or three songs in before my voice starts going. They do this for an hour every/every other night for weeks. Just about every screamer's voice gets wrecked on tours.
Jake doesn't sound bad at all. But it seems he goes short of breath a lot. This was spot on minus a few parts in the lyrics. Can't wait to see these guys.
Ok... im getting tired of people saying his vocals are sloppy... matts sloppy... okay SO FREAKING WHAT YOU WOULD BE A LITTLE SLOPPY IF YOU WERE SWEATY AND OUT OF BREATH!!!! Screaming requires alot of breath, and jake is running around getting everyone pumped up. Do you seriously think hes going to sound just like he does on cd???? Come on now their August burns red just shut up and enjoy them. Plus ive heard there better live you never know it could be the person thats recording it.
Lol the weak vocals have nothing to do with who's recording the performance or who does the mix. Those people only have control over the volume level and brevity of the instruments and their sound. Face it, Jake's vox live are majorly lacking. I've seen them twice and while both shows were fantastic, he couldn't hold a note, scream, growl, whatever to save his life. And yes, Matt is extremely sloppy here, but being sweaty or out of breath is no excuse for it. These guys are professionals. Missing a note or a beat once in a song is understandable, but to not be able to keep up with the music you've written and rehearsed a thousand times is criminal. It's time to stop being a blind fanboy and realize that maybe your favorite band isn't as great as you once thought, or maybe they need to stop mailing performances in. Btw, the only member of the band I see holding up his end when I've seen them and on all of these internet vids is JB.
Nick Turmes I see your point about Jake being sloppy, he misses basically half of the song. But i disagree with you as far as your last statement goes, Dustin and Brent are extremely constant as well in their performance, JB is not the only one. And I have a last question for you, can you point out were Matt is extremely sloppy, I'm having a hard time finding the weak spots in his performance.
Also NEVER compare an album to a live recording lol albums you have multi layered tracks split left and right of multiple parts to give in that thicker tone. The drums and bass are what give chugs that "bassy" sound... guitar is the mid range.
Am I the only one that gets so pumped hearing the opening part of this song?
nope
Double nope
Triple nope
Quadruple nope.
haha it makes me wanna run through a brick wall. so sick
matt greiner is the most underrated person in history
he always gets me pumped just hearing him play
idk if id say underrated. He is very well respected in the drumming community, even the people that don't listen to this genre.
i really think he's gotta be top 3 drummers on the entire planet
Dave Garofolo He's a really great and tight drummer but not really in the top 3 or anything. His technique is pretty bad sometimes and he has admitted that even himself (you can see that on his blast beats and on the double bass sometimes). No disrespect or anything, I love August Burns Red and I love Matt. Do not know travis barker or what?
Matt makes you want to practice harder and quit at the same time.
Myke Nope true!
Myke Nope id quit
+Myke Nope Matt Garstka?
Satrio Fahmi Utama Sarcasm?
+Satrio Fahmi Utama thats matt greiner. matt gartska is in animals as leaders.
If I were a wrestler. I'd choose this song as my entrance song. My god.
Haha i’m glad i’m not the only who thinks about this kind of stuff😂
This or blacklist by exodus starts out dark with the intro and then the chugs start and flames shoot out and you enter from gorilla position with a damn sledgehammer
I thought the same thing when I heard the intro riff
At least the beginning on repeat
MMA Fighter. I'd have the entire MGM Grand bouncing.
Every time I've seen them, Jake's vocals have been on point. This isn't even close to how good he sounded just last week when I saw em.
everytime ive seen his live videos. his vocals are always not as good as the recording. the intrumentals are always on point
One of the best ABR songs ever made!!!
From one of the best metalcore albums ever made
Matt is so in time they use his drumming to set he atomic clock
You're the straw that's crushing my back.
You are the salt that's burning my wounds.
DUDE they are so tight and smooth live. gotta love ABR.
Are you kidding me?? The vocals suck!
Sam Whitehead you havent heard many live metal bands have you.
Wow, you know you can't argue with me so instead of trying you decide to insult me, great to know you have no social skills. Cole444Train .
Matt greiner has the best blast beat faces known to man
ABR is so epic live!
I lack words... incredible!
If there's one band I hope that never changes their lineup it's these guys. Their playing is always on point live.
2:55 goes so hard I wish they’d repeat that line. They staccato pick that riff behind some vocals for a few bars before that, but when the vocals drop out and the guitars start chugging behind that lick it’s so good.
The snare change from the album @ 3:14 was such a nice touch.
Bro imagine trying to play this live. Im exhausted watching.
The intro is fire 🔥 change my mind
The intro to this this song is one of the greatest of all time
You can't really judge a screamers performance, or an entire band for that matter, based on a youtube video. Same thing with For Today
JB is the lead guitarist, Jake is the vocalist with Dustin (bass) as background vocals.
you mean jake his volcals JB is the lead guitarist
Saw these guys when Messengers was just released, went to see AILD and didn’t even know who ABR was but I was absolutely blown away. Been in love ever since!
Had always been and always will be a great band, so solid performance as well.
I lol at all the people calling this "sloppy". They probably dont play an instrument and have no clue how hard this style of music is to play standing up let alone jumping around on the stage. This music take some serious STAMINA. its impressive they dont screw up more often.
yes. and Matt Greiner is a fucking genius..his drum parts are hard as fuck.. o.O
*****
Thanks for the insight man they are definitely my favorite band as well. I play alot of ABR and it took me like a month just to learn indonesia and barbarian perfectly i still dont know how brubaker comes up with these killer riffs lol. I need to see them again soon! \m/
Yeah it took me a month to get it down perfect... but then again I am a perfectionist when it comes to songs
Right?! I will admit I love playing this song on my drums, but that blast beat section in the middle is killer every time.
2021 & still my fave intro.. 🤘🏼
2022!!! ABR is probably the best band live ever.
2024!
JB rocking those sandals like a badass 😈🤘🏻🔥
He still doing it 7 years later
Rare are the metalcore songs that gives me the chills. But this will forever do.
ahhhh yes, ABR without an old western movie theme song in the middle of it.
That was amazing!! Might not have been note for note, but for as crazy and technical as this song is, it was phenomenal. The drummer was spot on. The guitarist was about 80% accurate but all of it was on time and relevant.

Awesomeness

ABR always have amazing performance
This is the definitive August Burns Red live video.
As soon as I saw they're touring with Fit for a King and hitting Seattle I came here. The world is healing. Can't wait.
These guys are no doubt incredible to see live. I may not believe in the same values that they do, but they know how to keep on making kick-ass music and put on stunning performances. Love this band.
These guys are all so awesome. I love Matt, he's the best.
I know I’m late but dopest riff of all time!!
Cheers from Brasil!! That guys are AWESOME!!
I'm seeing these guys at the start of next month and I'm super excited!

Guitars spot on like always
Year 2020 I'm Still August burns red fan!! 🔥
Now this is a live video, instead of the typical live intro into studio version.
They're so amazing live, I can't wait to see them again!
I've noticed quite a few live videos that sound like this. I don't understand, this doesn't sound good. Hahaha.
a video does not lie ^^ ... he`s just not a good live singer

Saw these dudes two years ago at Piere’s in Fort Wayne, IN. We were all screaming “YOU HAVE YOUR OWN LIFE TO LEAD” at the end of Composure
Such amazing musicians in this band. I'm ready to take a punch to the face in the name of metal!!!!
This moment when the guitar intro begins and everyone gets crazy... awesome... (y)
Gänsehaut !
1:15 that miss on the high hat haha love matt
This must be at the end of one of their tours, I know that after playing a ton of songs or at the end of a tour vocals can be shotty. I've seen them live about four or five times and I've been BLOWN AWAY every time, they always performed best. He must be having a shitty vocal day or not done his warm-ups enough.
People don't understand that this is what raw screams sound like without effects lmao.
These guys are sick!!!!!!
i love August Butns Red so much >w< awwww i really want to go to their concert :,D
Oh god I thought Matt was doing ordinary blast beat .......But it's actually a MUSCLE BLAST.
best sweat-core band out there
63 people with no taste so far...screaming and growling of the highest quality right there.
I must get to Impericon one day!

However, I thank you for this pen and ink ammunition.
Thank you for the inspiration.

I understand constructive criticism in any situation... But seriously, in this day in age, we should all be thankful we get to see these live shows for free online... So EPIC
BEST METAL SONG.

i loooooove the drums daaaammnn!!! I'm gonna learn. and I'm a pianist!
griener is stuggling with those blasts. but goddam would have been great to go to.
You try playing at their speed, intensity and the conditions they were in and see if you struggle... I'm not sure whether you have been on stage playing drums before but I have, and boy do you sweat because of adrenaline, nerves, temperature from the lights and what your actually playing but I agree, would've been incredible!!
Joshua Murray I don't think he's saying that it's bad, just stating it as he sees it.
i blast somewhere around the same speed and have on stage and yes i get where you're coming from. was just pointing it out.
Gagee Cattermole Congratulations, you are now more civilized than 99.99% of commentators on UA-cam! :)
im not sure if you're bring sarcastic?
2:57 always gives me goosebumps
Just had the exact same thing happen to me right there
if you have slow motion on your player, use it at 1:12...the guitarist looks like that numa numa kid
ABR are fucking awsome!
and they are live soooo fucking goood!
true metalcore
Just saw this band live yesterday at warped.... video will never do them justice
I like your song
These guys are some of those guys who don't look like they should be playing Metalcore, but are awesome anyways. Except the singer, he looks Metalcore.
lol, what's the point anyway..
Smithysmithin so you have to look a certain way to play a certain kind of music?
***** I don't think he meant something like that. But most kinds of metal(core) - or music in general - have some kind of certain style concerning looks and clothes.
But hey, I look like a folk singer and play metalcore anyway! :'D

That's what makes them so badass in opinion. It shows they aren't there to make some sort of statement, they just love the music and are good friends.
When I'm in the car going nuts, I can't get more than two or three songs in before my voice starts going. They do this for an hour every/every other night for weeks. Just about every screamer's voice gets wrecked on tours.
That bass drop at 3:17
Bitte my damnation von chelsea grin :)
thats a gnarly pit
These guys are jacked
Matt is a fucking machine
Эти мурашки разорвут мою кожу)
Jake doesn't sound bad at all. But it seems he goes short of breath a lot. This was spot on minus a few parts in the lyrics. Can't wait to see these guys.
2:07 most epic :D
❤️❤️ Wow
AUGUST BURNS RED is and alwayz will be ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY MANDAFUCKINGTORY awesome live

Metalcore moshpits be like: GET A LAP

Eu tenho pena de quem n gosta de metalcore pqp
Sollte ich mal ein Boxer sein, wird das mein Einlaufsong!
Ok... im getting tired of people saying his vocals are sloppy... matts sloppy... okay SO FREAKING WHAT YOU WOULD BE A LITTLE SLOPPY IF YOU WERE SWEATY AND OUT OF BREATH!!!! Screaming requires alot of breath, and jake is running around getting everyone pumped up. Do you seriously think hes going to sound just like he does on cd???? Btw, the only member of the band I see holding up his end when I've seen them and on all of these internet vids is JB.
Nick Turmes I so agree with you. jayda miller Lol, Matt is the drummer.
+nick tumes
When does Brent or Dustin screw up? Dustins vocals are stunning live also...
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🏼
Get it
That rhythm guitar needs to be more bassy like the album. He doesn't palm mute right in my opinion
I dont think the technique is the problem, more like the mix is just unbalanced
"In my opinion" Lol Guess it doesn't really matter when he's playing to thousands of fans does it...
Also NEVER compare an album to a live recording lol albums you have multi layered tracks split left and right of multiple parts to give in that thicker tone. The drums and bass are what give chugs that "bassy" sound... guitar is the mid range.
There are two rhythm guitar channels on the album...
