Johanna's guitar. The striping on the back and sides is a very beautiful touch. I want a better closeup of the sound hole. I went to the website and saw the close up. It looks fantastic. She achieved her clearity and presence goal. The lows and highs seem somehow louder than the other two guitars. The sustain is incredible. I love it.

Very full and lush sounding tone of this guitar - fine craftsmanship. Also enjoyed the playing which allowed the instruments to show its character.

When Jouyan is speaking to Johanna Vogl (3.33 min onwards) the air of his voice already making the guitar vibrate that already show the sustain is wonderful.!!! Simon Ambridge guitar wonderful!

I did not like the first guitar in the start, but then my ears adjusted to it and it is very much a beautiful guitar. The midrange would make this guitar standout amongst a full range of instruments playing in an orchestra. Most guitars have a full body bass sound which is great as a stand alone instrument, but mixed with others it can quickly be lost into the mix. That first guitar would stand out perfectly and clearly.

Jouyan, Do have an excellent 2023 !
I love hearing you testing these guitars and hearing their sound, even though, my ears are not as subtle as yours !
Would you say that there are definitely different guitars, for different musical styles, eg. Albeniz, Barros, Bach, Chopin, upto the very modern composers ?
    Stay safe,
    Stu xx

A story...I am the proud owner of a yamaha G-100 Nippon Gaki which my mother received as a present from my father in the early 70s ..late 60s. The piece of wood with nylon corts was always somewhere in the house but nobody knew exactly where. Just to give an idea of how well it was taken care of and how much it was played. Then at age 14 a friend of mine played guitar and did I remember we had a guitar too ...somwhere in the house. At age 17 I started taking classical guitar lessons..I took lessons with about 4-5 persons in class and the very first day my teacher asked me if he could play my guitar...just to feel and hear it was about. I do not remember what it was what he played but I almost fell from my chair. I was amazed that such a sound came from my guitar....after the lesson he took me aside and asked me if I wanted to sell my guitar. I felt honored but also betrayed...he did not tell me what was so interesting for him about my guitar and wanted to take it from me for a cheap offer. What do you guys think ...somehow I feel that a involved teacher with his students should not take away their fine instrument so they will replace it with something less quality. It took me 3 or four lessons to decide and seek an other teacher.. Anyways...but wooww...what a beautiful guitars are shown today.. Sure I would like to own this Ambridge...fell of my chair again when I learned about the price...I hope it comes with a good case. After asking approval from my mother maybe Siccas Guitars want to trade the Ambridge for my exceptional Yamaha....lol

I think Johanna Vogl will make some lovely guitars in future with experience as this is a very nice guitar in many ways and she seems to be listening well to your playing of her guitar. Simone Ambridge lives very close to where I live. A friend of mine had two of his guitars quite some time ago which I played a little on and they had the same basic sound I would say it is an English clear type of sound.

It’s clearer, more responsive but slightly more hollow than I am used to hearing on an acoustic guitar. But this makes the sound more consistent I think. Nicely built.

Really high in the mid range causes that boxy sound. But I think this is more due to the dynamic range of the guitar. In the hands of someone like Ana Vidovic I believe you would hear the full potential.

Another great Geekly guitar meeting, thank you! Nice tradition begun here, taking a luthier in for interview at every meeting, please do continue that one!
How can you have lived in Mittenwald and move back to Berlin? That is a town of my dreams: Beautiful architecture all around, a great arts and crafts culture and the best of German landscape all around! Okay, I am no city slicker, apparently.
Joanna Vogel astonished, like the two other young female German luthiers, with the quality of sound produced by that guitar. Very crisp and lovely sound, almost reminiscent of the Italian school of guitar making. I only could complain, that it may be a little bright and frail in the soundscape, but that could be a virtue, if you for instance are interested in performing the music of the great Italian composers or for that matter even JS Bach pieces, where this sound is just perfect.
Antonio Marin Montero would be my pick this week, which should be no surprise to anyone, because I overall love that warm tonal quality, that is associated with my preferred style of classical music also, and that is flamenco and all Spanish/ Latin American inspired guitar music really, which by the way also includes Isaac Albeniz, even though he were a piano virtuoso composing for the piano only. All of his compositions were inspired by Spanish folklore, including flamenco. The presence of the tone even astonished me, as soon as you begun playing. It really is a guitar with a very charismatic sound, which prospect buyers also should take note of: It might not be for everyone and every repertoire of choice!
I can see, why Jouyan highlights the Simon Ambridge as a great guitar, even outstanding in this comparison. It got all the dynamic range and complex sound qualities of the ones before, but is not frail in the sound as the Vogel or overly charismatic, as the Moreno could be to some repertoires. It however also makes that guitar a bit dull to my ears, sorry, but it is true. Perfect, but not inspiring.

@@niceguitar6144 Yes, it is me. Thanks. Just got fed up putting my actual real name on all comments on social media, which is not that brilliant an idea anyway. And, I also had wrote some things way back, that I actually do not agree on anymore. So, I closed my old account in my real legal name and opened this one instead. That also wiped out all old comments, which I only see as positive. People tend to read only the new comments anyway, so even when it comes to good comments, that I still can stand behind, it were not much of a loss.

Johanna's was really nice, but Monter is the killer one. Whauh. Just an incredible combination of sound beauty and power/projection. I just wish I would ever be able to hear it in real life instead through the youtube. Simon's sound is incredible too. I just miss a tiny bit of mysitique I find in Montero, but it might be just me.

Ambridge was the best. Nice work by Vogl. Marin: number 1633B, for real? The logical mind assumes that there is a 1633A as well. Either way, prolific builder for sure. Honestly, his guitars are all right. Not in any way my favorite but good.

    "FOUR very different sounding guitars"
    1. Three not four!!
    2. Obviously there are differences but, similar sounding, all spruce top & IR back & sides!!
    🤔
The first (young lady) had a lot of promise, needs to be played & broken in, so the voice starts to shine
The second (Spanish) was actually well described, traditional sounding with elements of modernity, decent voice
& the last, I found similar to the second just more modern but in a good way

I like your comment but I would’ve liked it even more if you weren’t so petty. So he misspoke, he meant three and he said four. I hope you’re not so detail oriented and everything else you do, unless you’re an engineer or a surgeon.
