To make a long story short, Nintendo legally owned the rights to Tetris, meaning Tengen (actually Atari Games) was breaking the law with their version of the game.
Actually, all of the Tengen NES games were breaking the law. You weren't legally allowed to sell NES games unless you were licensed to do so by Nintendo, and Tengen got around that by working around their proprietary lockout chip stuff. IIRC Nintendo even filed a lawsuit against them once they figured it out.
EyeNeedCure well, every unlicensed one. There’s 3 licensed Tengen games: PAC-MAN, Gauntlet, and R.B.I. Baseball. These all got unlicensed versions, so who cares anyways.
@@ronnieradon Which they did, of course. However, Tengen at least had the legal rights to publish their unlicensed games on console; they didn't have the rights to Tetris. It's a very long story; check out @GamingHistorian videos on both subjects.
Regardless of criticism, This theme songs brings back memories of my family sitting around all night playing tetris. I actually like this one better than the other Type A
People can enjoy Gameboy Tetris’ theme A all they want but THIS is the music I think of when I think of Tetris. This is the first version of the game I remember seeing when I was a wee lad of 8, so it’s the cue I associate with Tetris the most. Hell, Tetris itself is what I associate the sugarplum fairies theme with in general, forget cartoons like Ren & Stimpy or SpongeBob. Lol The Game Boy version did have a better title theme and it’s arrangement of Theme B IS superior though. Not gonna lie.
I agree with your comment on the title theme music for gameboy, but I'm surprised you find the type 2 music on Gameboy better, the NES version has a richer sound imo.
And it’s a banger, too! First time I’d heard it and I’ve been obsessed with playing the new Classic Score Mode with that remix ever since. Love the escalating build from 2:30 to 5:15: ua-cam.com/video/9ys3CBJvhvA/v-deo.html
Tetris songs: Normal tetris theme A: Korobeniki NES tetris theme A: Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Tetris 99 10 players left theme: Rimsky-Korsekov Flight of the Bumblebee
@CybeastID Fun Fact: The Legend of Zelda was originally also going to use a classical piece, but Nintendo were just too early in the song’s lifespan to use it.
I find it strange how the gameboy tetris theme is the one that stuck, and not this one. I get that this is already a pretty well known piece (tchaikovsky - dance of the sugar plum fairy iirc) but im also pretty sure the gameboy tetris theme is based on a russian folk song or something

Tengen's version came first tho
@@pikminfreak0011 I don't think it was illegal, the real illegal thing would be copying their patented lockout chip.

Same here
Original composition:
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies (from the Nutcracker Suite)
Tchaikovsky goes 8-bit!
"I will trap Santa in my box, like Fort Knox, and make him stop the clocks. Then we'll have Christmas all year long!"
This bring back so many amazing childhood memories
Alternate universe where this was the main tetris theme
la mejor de las 3 posibles tonadas a elegir
The Tetris Effect Connected soundtrack just added a mix of this as 1989 pt. 2; interesting that the mix of Type-A/Kalinka music wasn’t included.
And it’s a banger, too! First time I’d heard it and I’ve been obsessed with playing the new Classic Score Mode with that remix ever since.

Merry Christmas To Nintendo
I hear this, and all I can hear is my old man saying "Game of 9-5?". I'm frustrated at the memories, and lucky to have them.
Very good music!!

El mejor de los tetris ,_(°)_,
It's pretty good that this one doesn't have the select sound in it. :D
Breakup of the USSR/Christmas in USSR (Dec. 25, 1991) colorized
An early example of young gamers being introduced to classic music
0:08 the moment when tetris got crashed and freezes but only one note keeps playing at the end:
Tetris songs:
Normal tetris theme A: Korobeniki
NES tetris theme A: Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
Tetris 99 10 players left theme: Rimsky-Korsekov Flight of the Bumblebee
Flight of the Sugar Plum Fairy
dance of the sugar plum fairy
Thanks for the name people, now i can find him
Someone has beaten the game that's why I'm here.
If this is the first theme, then how come the Smash remix that says that it's a remix of the first theme is a remix of a different song?
+reversalmushroom Because the Tetris Guidelines forced a change in the "A" type theme to be something different.
Gameboy version might be considered the original, and this a remix of the gameboy version.
Chris i dont know i play tetris friends and one of the game modes is Tetris Gameboy and i havent heard it
remix of sugarplum fairy
@CybeastID Fun Fact: The Legend of Zelda was originally also going to use a classical piece, but Nintendo were just too early in the song’s lifespan to use it.

Stage Theme 01
I find it strange how the gameboy tetris theme is the one that stuck, and not this one. I get that this is already a pretty well known piece (tchaikovsky - dance of the sugar plum fairy iirc) but im also pretty sure the gameboy tetris theme is based on a russian folk song or something
The game boy theme is actually named “Koribeniki”
YAY!!!!! There it is!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I guess you don't know the name or it doesn't have a name.

who is here in 2024?
boooo .... tengen tetris rules ....... this game sucks
I hate Tengen Tetris
Tengen sucks since tengen hacked the NES lockout feature and found a way to bypass it so they could produce unofficial cartridges.
